    Missionary's?

I just now got my first look at the new Sister's of battle White Dwarf codex. After I went through it, I looked at the GW site, and noticed the Missionary models. I also noticed that there was no entry for them in the current codex, and I also noticed that there weren't any in the previous one either. Where are these guys from?

Take a look at the bottom.
They are Ministorum Priest, just the model is called something else.

They're old 2nd ed models, but still valid as Ministorum Priests under the current ruleset.

    *Missionaries.

Anyway, the 2nd Ed Sister Codex was big on the idea of the Missionaries, heroic individuals who would find worlds that had strayed from (or never bathed in) the light of the Imperial truth and bring them into the fold by acting the part of prophet and educator. They also tended to uncover some of the more unsavoury belief systems that lurk at the peripheries of the Imperium's borders.
The idea fizzled over time, partly because the Ecclesiarchy changed in how it was described (it would be more likely to send a huge crusade to "convert" some heathens than an old guy in a robe) and partly the need for clearly defined factions that meant that they impinged on the Inquisition's role.

Still one of my favourite models.

I really like this kind of thing in 40k. There's a short story about a missionary tending to a mutant/outcast/poor area in one of the compilation books which I rather enjoyed.

I'm hoping Missionaries will appear as a new ecclesiarchy unit when the proper codex comes along; it'd be nice to have infiltrators.

What's more, they're going to be the cutting edge of the ecclesiarchy's holy crusades, they'll be on fast-dial to the nearest cloister of Sorroritas just in case it turns out his current mission is tainted in some way (or some other threat appears while he is performing his ministry). Makes for a pro-active ecclesiarchy, rather than one that's answering the beck and call of a branch of the Inquisition or defending shrines.
