    Wood elf experience.

    Hello there,

Today I signed up at Warseer, and Introduced myself aswell, which you can find here:
    http://www.warseer.com/forums/showth...72#post6236372

As I mentioned there, I am going to keep you up to date, and tell you about my, hopefully, growing army. ^^
I want to build a small Glade Guard painting guide In here aswell, about next week... In the Introducing thread i just mentioned I would start from the first of June, but I think I start a little Earlier...

I think i might go to the store tomorrow, and grab some new paints, so I can just go for it, unlimited. This Plog is going to help me with painting the models, because I really have to post an update when I say so. ^^

In topic, in which I introduced myself are some pictures of a Wood elf glade guard which I tried out last year or so... I'll definitely show you a better model with smoother blending in my painting guide, with hopefully some larger photo's, which contain more detail...

So, this is it for now, because I nearly have to run for my bus.... If I miss that one, I'll be late for school...

I nearly forgot to show you a short summary of what I will be posting in here:

    - The progress of my Wood elf army (with photo's)
    - Some Painting guides (if people enjoy my first one [which is coming up soon])
    - My progress in understanding the game, and building up my army.
    - I will be asking questions about the wood elves and stuff like that, which units should I definitely include in my army, which shouldn't be in there.... Things like that.

    Niek

Your Glade Guard look great. I love Wood Elves so I'll be keeping an eye on this. I would recommend getting a photobucket account and embedding the pictures as having to click on the mouse to view pictures can put some people off looking any closer

    Hey there Fanny,

Great you spotted my thread and I will definitely look at the Photobucket thing, so other people can get a better look at my photo's.

Don't you think the color of my Elves cloak is a little overdone...?
I think I will try a more green green instead of a yellow one for my army.
Thanks for the reply, I really enjoy other peoples opinion about some things.

I normally don't read that many Intro's for the forum, but saw this thread and took the linky. Nice write-up on your army choosing and glad you went with the direction of the looks of the models and fluff as opposed to tournament power and win/loss game ratios. Wood Elfs have a really great model range and are sculpted nicely - glad you chose them!

Really good job painting on that Glade Guard. I am eager to see more when you get a chance to paint and post again. What are your current plans for the bases and movement trays - theme wise - if you don't mind me asking. I have a whole army of Wood Elfs (3000+ points worth) all new in box (some even still shrink wrapped) current models that I am thinking about putting together soon and was looking for inspiration and ideas.

If you haven't looked already, I would recommend Elfboy's Wood Elf painting log above. It's got loads of inspirational stuff in it

Thank you, Fanny Crowbar, for the heads up! I literally just went through each page of Elfboy's log and am very impressed! Makes me eager to get my own WE models out and start up! Now I have two logs I want to keep track of. :-D

    Re: Wood elf experience.

@Lord Cedric: I'm glad you ask, but to be honest, I didn't really have something for the bases yet... When I've finally got time I go to CMON to check out what other ppl put on their bases, and stuff like that. i can tell you one first thing, it's definitely going to be really woody, with leaves or something. I actually hate building units, so I need to get a way to enjoying that aswell, but i think I'll be fine with that. ^^

Well, I read the armybook of my beloved Elves, and found out all the special rules, I think I like Waywatchers most... Just because they have special 'Killers' abillities, like assassins or something like that, I will definitely put a bunch of those in my army. I hope you don't mind, but why do you buy an entire army of 3000+ points? Do you have such a lot of experience of the game, and the rules already, or... I just try to figure out my army step by step, and add things I think are missing. Personally I prefer Elves above Dryads and other tree-creatures, but I might at some, I'll see that later, if I think there is some massive power mising or something like that.

Well, thanks for the compliment on the Glade guard. I actually think it's a bit over-highlighted, and I'll work on that. I actually just grabbed some pencils and a unpainted Glade Guard, and tried some wet-in-wet blending, I'm pretty pleased with the result, though it's not quite even near a finished cloak. Had to quit, because daylight ran out...

@Elfboy: Thanks for your reply, I already scrolled globally through your plog, and I really adore your color schemes, even though I wouldn't use them myself, I really enjoy looking at them. I saw you had a unit of Glade Guard without hooded cloaks. I just put on these hoods so I don't have too many parts of skin-colour, because I really have to practise on that, a lot. I think you did excellent on these faces and skin parts. Do you use the new GW paints? Or something else?

@Fanny: You are absolutely right about that, and I already found it, searching the forums.

There actually is one, quite important, question. I wonder whether it's possible to get your paint of your models (plastic ones) without damaging them, because the wood elf glade guard i just showed this morning is not quite the way I want him to be. Painting over a lot of previous paint is not really that nice so... Is there anyone who has a suggestion?

I use Fairy Power Spray. Works on plastic without damaging the model.

    Re: Wood elf experience.

Thanks, glad you liked my plog. I use the old GW range, I haven't looked into the others to be honest, it's easier just to buy the regular GW ones tbh and I've never felt like I needed something else. As for the skin, I just try to avoid exagerated highlighting, trying to keep it all smooth, I don't like the super-highlighted GW elves, looks like their ready to retire from the whole wargaming battles to me.
I'm with you one the waywatchers as well, even though they're not big game performers, their fluff is what wood elves are all about: being sneaky!
I 've been told simple green works well for stripping models, although I don't know if it's avilable in the netherlands.
Look forward to some pics, get that photo account up and running!

edit:PS. you should check out Anardakil's WE plog as well for inspiration, one of the best out there.

I've got some of the old GW paints there aswell, but will buy a real lot of new ones in the upcoming months, just because I simply ran out of some key colours, like Black & White... And I want to have a huge amount of different greens and browns, so I can easily recreate a layer.

I think I have to disagree this in advance, without even a single minute of wargaming experience.... I suppose every army will do great if you use it in a particular way. You've also got to have some realistic units. eg. When you are expecting a dwarf to be as fast as an Elven steed, and in the end it isn't, it doesn't mean the dwarf is not performing well... Then you are just not realistic.
So in the end I think some units can be great, even though most people say they s*ck. It's actually all about the tactics you use, and whether these models fit in there. ^^

I will definitely try this, or at least check out whether, my fellow Dutchmen sell these things.. ^^

Well, I already did. Read it all. Stunning autumn themed army. I'm not going to do that either, I'll stick with a fresh colour scheme, with bright (hopefully) clean greens and browns. I suppose...
Shame she quit painting/updating that plog....

EDIT: Hope this kind of works out... Trying Photobucketthing, not quite sure whether I just use it right...
    EDIT2: Give it another try...

She updates every once in a while, though not as often as we would like!
Nice colour scheme, I really like the green tone, and it contrasts nicely with the other muted colours. I reckon it'll look even more striking once you have a unit painted. It's funny, you often see people say of autumn and winter themed wood elves that it's nice to see something other than green on wood elves, but truth be told I rarely see green wood elves at all in project logs, its quite refreshing. Your painting looks good, look forward to seeing more, get cracking!

PS you can also copy the IMG codes of your photos from photobucket and paste them here for full sized images.

    Re: Wood elf experience.

Yeah, I read that... She was going to take a break or something. Right?
Might stick with that bright green colour anyway, don't quite know how I actually wanted it. Just a little less yellowish. ^^

Well, I really want to paint something now, haha. But just haven't got the paints, and I think I go to the shop after the weekend, but that'll be too long for me lol.
I've got some Dark Angels green and snotgreen so I suppose I might just paint some cloaks then in the weekend.
I was just trying out some things. Just because I don't have black paint right now, and I don't know anyone who has Black. I actually don't know anybody who plays warhammer, so...(yet.. lol)

I tried out something on my cloaks: Creating a dark green shade with either Regal Bleu+Dark Angels Green and Scorced Brown+ Dark Angels Green. I actually quite liked it. Perhaps I liked it better than just black mixed shading... I keep you guys up to date, and I really hope to get some pictures about tomorrow?

Speaking of tomorrow... Tomorrow is my last exam.. After that, school's done for this year.

Excellent Glade Guard! The green is super vibrant, perfect colour for a spring themed elf army.
