    menoth noob

    hello

due to increasing pricelevels for GW products , i'm looking for an alternative for their products

i have the old metal mentoh starter box , an extra warjac kand knights of the flame lying around but i have some questions :

what is a good pt level to start playing ?
is a choir a must add?

can someone post me some example lists, i'd rather not buy models that are not good in the game

    greetings
    steevn

EDIT : i mean temple flameguard in stead of knights of the flame....

    Re: menoth noob

Not entirely sure what you mean by "knights of the flame" since there is no unit with that name, are you maybe referring to Temple Flameguard or Daughters of the flame?

A good starting point to learn the game is either just running Battleboxes, or 15 points. I played my first few games with Battleboxes and it was great fun.
A choir is pretty much a must add yes, they do so much for 2 points that as long as you're playing with at least 2 warjacks (which you almost always will since Menoth has such good warjacks) you'll be shooting yourself in the foot if you don't take them.

Most of the models are good in the game, it is fairly well balanced compared to GW games. That said there are still a few stinkers in each army, so if you want to stay away from the worst pieces I'd say these are what you shouldn't buy:
    Warcaster: Vice scrutator Vindictus
    Warjacks: Vigilant, Scourge of heresy
    Units: Flameguard cleansers, Idrian skirmishers
Solos: None really, they're all good. I guess maybe the Allegiant of the order of the fist.

Someone is bound to come along and swear by one of the above mentioned models/units, and such is the nature of the game; in the right setup every model has its' place, and there are ways to make anything shine.

So to recap; Start at Battlebox/15 pts level, then when you feel comfortable with that move up to 25, and then after that to 35 or 50, which are the most common game sizes.

And yes, a choir is so good in nearly every Menoth list...
40k armies: GKs; Eldar; Deathguard, Demons

WHFB: Dwarves, Lizardmen, High Elves, VC, Demons, WoC

    Re: menoth noob

I started playing Menoth recently and I'm very much impressed at how this army interacts and performs on the battlefield. I started with the new armybox (Khador/Menoth) and chose Menoth for a myriad of reasons but mainly because I love the models.
I've played pKreoss with Vanquisher, Repenter and Crusader without the Choir because I wanted to feel how the army works without the buffs of the Choir...well, Kreoss is a beast and his 'Jacks are all very good in their own field of expertise. Did I win all?...Nope, got beaten a couple of times...but you just need to get the hang of it with Menoth. Once you know the basics, move on to the Choir (an absolute must have if you're fielding multiple 'Jacks) and added a Paladin of the Order of the Wall. Trying to get Darten Vilmon as well and then a full unit of Errants with UA...
Menoth is a bit more difficult to start with than, say Khador, but once you get the hang of it...you'll be able to face any opponent and really give 'em hell till the very end!
Don't dismiss my anger as mindless fury.I assure you,it has a purpose!

Welcome to the proud legions in service to the Shaper of Man!

The Choir, as many state, is a good buy that will make it into every army with 2+ jacks in it and quite a few with just one. This is also true for the Vassal of Menoth. The TFG infantry as cheap troops that are good at standing in the way but lack hitting power. Where you want to go from your humble beginnings - that incidentally is the exact same thing I started out with - is up to you. I love the Holy Zealots (always with UA) with Kreoss: you get a decent cross between surviveability and grenade hitting power.

But first, get a few games in.

    Re: menoth noob

allrighty ! i'll paintstrip my startermodels and start with that. i painted them i a black/gold theme at the time because after doing a bretonnia army in teutonic knight colors i got fed up with using white

    what is UA ?

anyhow models that are good :
    starterkit
    choir
    kell bairoch
    eyriss
palladin of the order of the wall
    darten vilmon
    errants
    vassal of menoth

i'll think of a list, thanks again

UA stands for Unit Attachment, Warmachine's version of command groups.
