Thread: Goblin Shaman

    Re: Goblin Shaman

Very nice. I was worried for a moment and thought it was going to be a overpriced finecast! Much better too see it is an overpriced plastic sprue! Saying that, he will make a nice change to the regular gobbo's from the set! definitely more banner material then shamen, maybe this will be the first of some regular gobbo re-makes!

Though overall this pleases me. First new release from GW that has interested me in months!

Like Spiney Norman I too was a bit surprised to see another goblin shaman. Also the existance of the night goblin 'mushroom rule' means this model will probably sell very badly.

Odd that they are pumping out more models for a range that had plenty of character selections.

Poor TK, WE, Dwarves, & almost want to say Lizardman (only 2 slaan models ??)

But man that savage boss is a BEAST!!

Are you sure? It has six quite large holes in it and definitely appears the right shape for the lower jaw of an animal skull (which was my first thought except that I can't see any animal skulls on the model), it doesn't really look very much like the loincloth in the picture of the warboss, or is it a back piece that we haven't seen yet. From the looks of the sprue the loincloth appears to be part of the raised left leg which is to the left of the base on the sprue.

The only thing I can think is that the piece in question forms part of the warboss' head, fitting under the lower jaw before it is glued on, but from the pics I've seen I'm not totally convinced its the right shape. The axe is totally awesome, I'm going to paint it glowing warpstone green with directional lighting on the haft.

Sure... is anyone using vanilla gobbo shamans when you can have magic mushrooms?

I would if I was running a common goblin army (which is something I would consider when GW releases common goblin models that are worthy of having money spent on them), but I currently use Night goblin infantry thus night goblin characters.

Yes, I do, because I play common goblins.

Assuming I've understood this correctly (which is never a guarantee), the plastic clampack characters are created because a given sculptor really really wants to create a specific character, as opposed to the other products, which are created to fill an actual purpose.
You'll notice there wasn't really a need for a new Empire captain or Engineer, nor for another Saurus, either. Sorceress and Wraith were both... welcome, but hardly actually needed, either.

Well I disagree about the Saurus, the old metal scar vet is extremely ugly and dated, the new model was extremely welcome, you've got to admit producing a model for a character type with that many existent models already is a bit OTT.

Still with minor modification he will make a good BSB, which is something we've not had for ages, a goblin BSB model.

the reason they are producing these characters is to counter avatars of war. doing a good job tbh.

That shaman looks great even if its unnecessary to have yet another goblin shaman in the range.

Now if they'd only release updated regular goblins I would sell my house and blow all my money on a goblin army..

Hmmm... colour me sceptical to that; Moulds for plastic sprues still being too much of an investment for such frivolities. Metal models (and I would guess, finecast now) has in the past been like that, but never plastics.

See it instead as them working their way up to complete plastics for everything, and in the process it will appear like they are not all that aware of what is "needed". An educated guess is that these characters in the moulds are something like groups of four different ones, not necessarily for the same army, on one large sprue, and they are then not all initially released at the same time.

Liking the models in any cast, though the savage orc axe looks like it will shatter the first time it hits a good armour. Could of course be a magical axe...

Maybe they're aware of what is needed... maybe they're also aware of what sells most. Maybe goblin shamans sell like pancakes, while wood elf sorcerers and Bretonnian paladins don't?

    Re: Goblin Shaman

I love both of them! And they being plastic is also a bonus because from the previous plastic characters that I bought from GW - the Lizardmen Old Blood and VC Necromancer - both of which are fantastic!
Now if we had more NG with great weapons and the single SO shamen with shrunken head...

These guys are great. The Savage Orc in particular is very effective.
