    Astraeos' Other Stuff

Since finding a club in my area I've been finding more opportunities to play games outside the Games Workshop spectrum, Malifaux being my regular thing these days! I've also found other people who play Infinity so I might finally have an excuse to dust off my old Yu-Jing stuff that I bought years ago for games that never happened. Annoying when that happens.

I also started Khador and Retribution of Scyrah armies for Warmachine but there don't seem to be that many players around. One or two so someday I might get back round to that. And I've recently got a slight addiction to Soda Pop miniatures and have pre-ordered the new reprint of Super Dungeon Explore. I also have some Relic Knight models and am trying to decide between Cerci Speedway, Shattered Sword Paladins and Noh Empire as my force for that game!

As you can tell, I've been exploring a lot of new stuff so I'm starting this log to show off anything that isn't for my Empire or Space Wolves. At the moment I'm working on my Malifaux crew in-between Empire models along with the odd Soda Pop model.
Basically anything I do that's from the Specialist games range or other gaming companies will be put here. I may close my Necromunda thread and incorporate anything new here.

To start with I have Rin Farrah and Lady Justice waiting for the green stuff in their bases to dry. Then I'll stick on some sand and start undercoating them! There's also the Super Dungeon Explore version of Candy & Cola, but they're on the back burner for now!

I'll also use this thread as a directory for my other logs so I won't have to cram them all into my sig!

    Re: Astraeos' Other Stuff

OK, I've made a start on the lovely (and sexy) Rin Farrah! I'm going for a slightly darker look than the Soda Pop paint scheme by giving her a black outfit with tentacle pink details (did say slightly, not completely!). However I've hit a few snags....
I've undercoated her by hand using the new Imperial Primer, which is quite a thin, wash like paint. It seems ok but didn't quite grab the tips of Rin's hair, which now has metal spots poking through that I can't cover up! The detail of the face seems a bit more, shall we say fragile, compared to GW's stuff and my Tallarn flesh seems to have obscured one of her eyes a little.
And glueing on the rifle was a big mistake as now it's annoying trying to get through.

Painting this Soda Pop mini has been quite a revelation as the detail is smaller in places than the heroic scale that I'm used to. As a result I approached this model like I would with all the other ones I've painted. Maybe I should strip the paint and remove the rifle so I can try again? Still, now I know what I'm working with so maybe I should add some water to my paint (or Lahmian medium perhaps?). What I've learnt will come in handy for my next Soda Pop model, or an Infinity one as they seem to be of a similar scale.

Take a look for yourself in the pictures. I'll take her to the games club on Monday and see what other people have to say

Just a minor but kinda fun update. Hopefully if I got the uploader thing right then the photos should be in the correct order where they will correlate with what I'm typing!

First up is my Malifaux crew, a Guild one! It still needs a bit of assembly and as pinning is a skill I haven't picked up I'm kinda waiting on finding someone to do the task for me. Lazy I know but I want to do it right! The crew is the Death Marshals box set with an Executioner and Misaki added to it.

Next up are two of my recent acquisitions, starting with my copy of Super Dungeon Explore! This fun looking game claims to recreate computer game action into a board game, plus they've gone for an anime chibi style which may not appeal to everyone but makes the whole thing very recognisable. It's from Soda Pop, the same company from which that sniper woman I'm painting is from. However she's for Relic Knights, which will be their main tabletop game by the sounds of it.

After that is my Prefecture of Ryu starter set for Bushido! It's from british company GCT Studios and has a Japanese Oriental fantasy theme. Later this year I'll also be getting the new Ito faction, mainly because I donated to their Indiegogo campaign for it. As I currently don't know any other players, I may get a second starter set to put together so I can get some games in.

And the last two pics are of my model making room and a pile of rulebooks! Enjoy!

Your going to close your necromunda log?

*inhales* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOO *inhales again* OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

that log was fun man! Why not let the GW game systems have their own log and post all the other random stuff here?

That said that Rin Farrah minuature is wearing a seriously skimpy outfit what game system is she for? I might need to look into that myself

    Re: Astraeos' Other Stuff

I said I may, but seeing as in my collection of war gaming paraphernalia there's Dreadfleet, that new Space Hulk, Mordheim, Blood Bowl and Inquisitor miniatures alongside the stuff from Malifaux, Soda Pop, Infinity, Warmachine and Bushido stuff (I dabble a lot) it made more sense to me to make one big log for it all other than having the or more individual logs.
And as you may have guessed I'm a bit of a grasshopper with my collection (I'm not calling myself a 'Hobby Butterfly') so again I thought it was best for the specialist games and other companies stuff to be kept in the same place.
It's not a definite to close the Necromunda blog, maybe I'll ask a mod to move it to the Necromunda section and have it as battle reports collection while the models will have a place here.

Rin Farrah is from Soda Pop miniatures, their Relic Knights line to be precise. The company is set on making games inspired by Japanese pop culture, mainly anime. Here's their site- http://sodapopminiatures.com/
They seem to favour female characters, a little to the extreme though. Don't get me wrong, I love female characters a lot but even I feel there seems to be a bit of an over-fixation in their range!

Updates wise, my Bushido starter set is now assembled and has had a Chaos Black Spray undercoat, but I will go over the missed spots with the Imperial Primer. I also have Matsu Takashi and Daisuke for the group now and am awaiting Tenshi, Seishin na Goei and Mizuchi the Awakened.
I also have a Temple of Ro-Kan starter on the way so I will have two groups and can hopefully talk someone else into trying the game.

    Re: Astraeos' Other Stuff

Tiny update on the Bushido front today! Earlier on my Tenshi and Mizuchi arrived meaning I now have nine members of my Prefecture of Ryu warband! The starter set guys are now cleaned, based and undercoated, all I now need is to decide on a paint scheme.
But I have plenty of reference material for that as you can see! One thing I like about the Bushido blister packs is that you can see that model's stat card. For a game that doesn't have codexes (or even a forces section in the rulebook) you'll often look at a model and wonder what it does. The stat cards are also available to see on the GCT studios website.

So this is where you've been working on next to Empire. Looks interesting, nice miniatures, though they could use some paint . Is it a complex game?

    Re: Astraeos' Other Stuff

The miniatures already have some paint applied to them, I'll post some WIP shots later if you like.
I've read the rulebook once and it doesn't seem too complex although it's clear there's a focus on strategy. Also the recommended board size is 2x2, I'm half tempted to get some Realm of Battle game boards to play it on!

I'm expecting some more reinforcements for my Prefecture, and a Temple of Ro-Kan starter too.

    Re: Astraeos' Other Stuff

Progress report! My Prefecture has gotten a bit of paint on them now, red armour to be precise and I'll follow up with some dark turquoise cloth underneath it. It's not based on some historical faction I found, after flicking through my books and looking at several pictures, I just thought that red O-Yoroi's looked good!

I also have the Temple of Ro-Kan (or Rock On as I call it) starter along with the Kitsune, which is one of my favourite models from GCT Studios. Bit of an odd story about how I got her, but it's a good one.
I originally ordered Bikou and Mikio the sumo to complete my Prefecture collection (for now) but when the parcel arrived, it had the wrong models. Aiko and her gorilla and the Kitsune to be exact. I got in touch and a few days later I got an apology and the choice of a £5 voucher, or getting to keep the Kitsune! I was chuffed to bits, she's one of my favourites and would've been my first purchase once my Temple starter was ready for a game. I still have to return Aiko & her Gorilla though, but they did send the models I wanted first.

From left to right, Hiro Takashi & Hanso, Jin & Minuro, the Temple of Ro-Kan starter set, Miss Kitsune!

That Ro-Kan set has so many bits in it! Every model is multi-part which is a contrast to the prefecture's two multi-part and three single part ones, and even then it was a case of Jin's hat being optional!

This topic needs more Necromunda updates

Took a loko at that soda pop website you linked and your rin actually seems overdressed compared to some of the other minis that they got on there

They seem to have 2 obsessions. Skimpy outfits together with very over the top posses and er...well....womanly...assets....

Again though ,want more updates on how your gang is kicking ass/falling through floors/curb stomping opposition!

    Re: Astraeos' Other Stuff

Yeah, that is a little OTT with Soda Pop and female characters. Don't get me wrong, I love female characters (Escher gang, SoB army, Metroid) but I feel they get a bit carried away.

Ugh, you're gonna wanna thump me but Rupert started a 'League' (yeah, league. Not campaign) and two weeks ago I played a game but got home so late and had work the next day that I forgot to put anything up. I would've played this week, but there's a Genestealer gang in there now and to be honest I've had enough of those. It's not enough there's a fear causing WS6 at-the-start killing machine in there but they start off with a Psyker (maybe two, one of the Hybrids has a chance of having powers) AND have an unmodified LD10 for bottle tests! Was someone TRYING to create the most unbalanced gang he could? What strikes me more is that someone in GW saw those rules and thought "Yee-up, we'll make 'em official".
It actually made me think twice about continuing. One guy I know who played in the last campaign has said that he's not going to bother playing in this league now because of that frikkin' Genestealer cult. I'm actually leaning this way myself, I'd rather play the collapsing floors scenario every game than play Genestealers in a gang fight.

Well here's the Yakro link- http://www.yakromunda.com/gang/5596/wildfire
As you can see, not a bad start but I did have vents too. But I lost them in that 5 player game. My girls gave as good as they got though against a Goliath gang and it was pretty close. I'll miss those vents, having a heavy plasma gun appear in the most advantageous firing position anywhere on the board will be missed. My injuries weren't too severe (I'm surprised at Chloe, she fell off a building and ended up only going partially deaf) and I got some good skills. The most hilarious one though was that Juve gaining TWO muscle skills!
Oh, and a house rule in this league is that when we gain a characteristic advance we can choose which of the two we want.

    Re: Astraeos' Other Stuff

Did you guys try talking to the guy? If a few or even the majority of players agree that the gang is broken or overpowerd he might change his gang over to something else? In our local group if something is abit TO strong we generally try to take something else or tone it down in one way or another

Alternativly arent Genestealer cults eh...How do I put this.... Genestealer cults? Perhaps ask the GM if he will allow you guys to band together to wipe the guy out if he wont change his gang. Might be abit harsh but if isent willing to take one for the team

On the note of your gang, you started with a plasmacannon? (I refuse to call it heavy plasmagun ) Wow man, arent you getting alot of flak for that? Allthough come to think about it, your not taking a second heavy and saving up for one takes ages so eh... Might be a good move!

Id get a 2nd heavy asap and give him that heavy stubber The fire uspport it brings is invaluable. But who am I kidding, you probably kknow this better then I do

Just saying, dont let one person ruin this entire campaign for you man.

    -edit-

Also forget to ask... Why arent you using that Powermaul man! S5 in combat ftw!

    Re: Astraeos' Other Stuff

The GM is ok with the Genestealer cult but he did say he's toned it down. But I still have a bitter taste about them, if the Genestealer didn't start off so good (WS6 at the start? Aww, c'mon!) and they didn't have their unmodified LD10 for bottle tests then I wouldn't mind so much. Genestealers or not, I still think someone was having an exercise in creating an over powered gang.

Actually this is the second time I've started with the Heavy Plasma Gun, and no one moans about it. There's a few gasps of awe and OMG moments but never any flak. Both Savage Dominion and this gang has seen some great shots from theirs, both Sunshine and Solaris have hit multiple targets with their blast markers!

I probably will use the power maul, it was getting late and I just put it there for the time being.

Glad to hear the plasmacannon is working for you and that the powermaul wont go unused! you wont be killing people with (end game rolls I mean) but they sure as hell pack a punch in combat

How did the GM tone them down? Did he elaborate on this?

He didn't say how he did so. It was probably just lowering the Genestealers WS, but there's a house rule stating that when you get characteristic advances you choose which stat you want.

That might be the problem right there... Buddy of mine is also sick and tired of getting WS advances on his shooters and BS advances on his melee guys. So choosing either WS or BS id understand and might be willing to implement if everyone in our group is ok with it.... But pick ANY stat? Uhm... That seems more then a little broken if you ask me... How long will it last until theres scores of WS/BS6 guys running around? Its broken... Its inviting people to come up with the most nastiest builds they can think off instead of having people running around with random advances as the game was designed for....

Dont see much fun in it tbh, still in terrain youd easily get picked off... 3+ to hit at most and thats in heavy cover and not even counting things like scopes!

Only flipside I can see is that your own men will be WS6 as well somewhat negating the stealers WS6.... So it just ocmes down to whoever has the highest dice roll, no tactic, no strategy... Man thats depressing
