    Honestly, Will you stop buying?

Nearly a year ago, we had this thread regarding the annual price hike and the switch to finecast.

    To recap:

    1) Finecast has been around the block. We know what's wrong with it, and we know where it's headed.
    2) The annual price rises are a real shocker this year. Most products are more expensive, and space marine armies (the bread and butter of 40k) are going to go up in price by about 10% or more.
    3) Games Workshop is already expensive.
    4) Trade agreements have had time to settle in. No one likes them, but they've taken their toll, and I expect that most new customers don't care.

I voted for the blue moon.
GW kinda drove me out of WFB by making my army unplayable in 8th edition (DoW; no errata, no update, no players who still want to fight against them).
40K...I don't know. I'll wait for the 6th edition rules. If they're cool I might get back into the game and refurbish some of my armies, if not, I'm outta there, too.

I'll concentrate on my backlog even more and there's no danger of me running out of stuff to paint anytime soon.
But never say never, so it's the blue moon for me, too.

I've already stopped, and I'm unlikely to buy anything at all from their in the coming 12 months. I'm playing other systems, and have mantic armies for both 40k and WHFB
    Browncoat. And will be forever.

Not being funny, I bloody love Mantic Games

High prices and faulty Finecast have put me off any future purchases.

Re: Honestly, Will you stop buying?

I may pick up a few things before prices go up, just to add to my massive treasure hoard in the basement. I have plenty for my Tomb Kings project that is about 1% complete, and my Empire have most of the essentials. Mostly just characters and Knights missing now... but those Knights won't be bought until new ones come out. I have 4 sets of shelves set up to hold all my scenery, and one of them has been commandeered to hold all of my sealed in box purchases (almost everything bought at either staff discount back in the day or a more recent ~30% off from various discount retailers). It's a little ridiculous but I love it

In all seriousness though, I barely spend any money at all on GW products, save for Forgeworld and paint. I have a ton of stuff for the armies I'm most interested in painting in the next few years, and with prices rising all the time I have no desire to start any new projects from scratch.

I stopped buying and playing gwPLC products with the exception of Fantasy Flight Games products 6 years ago and have been having a blast playing a wide variety of other game systems. I have yet to regret that desicion.

Next Monday, I'm gonna stop buying one way or another. But I haven't made up my mind about one final purchase before then. So, I am still deciding between the top two options.

Re: Honestly, Will you stop buying?

To be honest, once I've finished my backlog, odds are I won't bother starting a new army or "finishing" what I have. I might work on that Ork Dreadbash list I've wanted to do for a while, but that was always going to be entirely built from scratch. Whilst my Ultramarines will get by alright (who were second-hand Black Reach models, and as such, £12 a squad), for the most part, my Imperial Guard are pretty knackered by this. And this has sunk any urge I had of getting into WHFB. Shame, really. I had wanted an Empire army, and that Tzeentch Daemon army, and even looked at the viability of making my own Chaos Dwarfs from regular ones. Not much of a chance of any of those happening now.

That's not to say I won't pick up the 6th Edition boxed set, or won't keep an eye on Forge World, because I still want a Contemptor Dreadnought. Or even pick up bits and pieces from bitz retailers. I'll still buy their paints and their books. But the majority of my gaming money will be going elsewhere. Not out of anger or frustration, but just because other places offer me better value for my gaming Sterling.

So no, I won't stop buying, because I like the paints and I like the fiction, and 6th Edition will be an interesting read if nothing else. But instead of spending money on a a Daemon army, or finishing off my Imperial Guard, it'll go on Dystopian Wars fleets, Malifaux crews, and 15mm plastic/lead dudesmen.

Sadly we will see the same thing we see every time "this" poll is posted - a vast number of people will say they will stop for ever, and then next months new shiny will be released and they will be on the first page screaming "take my money!". It's sad, but it will happen like that. I "stopped" buying a couple of years ago - I got the IoB 8th ed starter set, but that was only because of getting it around 17-20% off. Other manufacturers and OOP ebay auctions now get 99% of my hobby budget.

I stopped last year. I was planning this year to get back into 40k with the release of 6th but with the price rise looking like it is I just can`t justify it

Re: Honestly, Will you stop buying?

I voted for the "if it's really nice" option. O&G and Ogres both were released last year, so all my armies are up to date and do not need many new purchases. I will get the new Savage Boss for sure, because he oozes awesomeness and is a long missing gap in the range.

But other than the Savage (which is plastic, making it even more awesome) I cannot see myself buying much/anything, until something really caughts my eye, like the good-looking Witch Hunter my LGS had in April.

Love the models and will continue to buy. Will finish units prior to purchase so my backlog will be less but the models are great. Do not want other game systems but have tried several. But except for Malifaux the models are not as good on the whole. Just want to roll dice and play.

Re: Honestly, Will you stop buying?

Last year's price increase was upsetting because I fell for the myth that switching to resin would allow GW to hold the line on pricing. But I can live with being upset. What I couldn't live with was the combination of that plus a lot of the increases being more than 15%. At that point I stopped buying. Seeing more 15+% increases this year just seals the deal. I could understand new, awesome kits being worth the premium, it's hard to swallow with existing kits.

I still play Specialist Games though (I have all the models I need), so I haven't left the forums.

You forgot an option... "budget what budget? I spend what the hell i like!"

Seriously, this price rise makes no odds to me, i like GW's product, i have the disposable funds to spend on it. And in all honesty no other game system draws me in quite as much as warhammer or 40k, and trust me i've tried!

Re: Honestly, Will you stop buying?

I voted to keep my budget unchanged. However, since I mostly devote it to paints and chasing ebay deals on OOP books while I work through my massive painting backlog, it's not as if there was that much to change.

Re: Honestly, Will you stop buying?

I went with blue moon. This years rises were pretty much the last straw for me. I have enough GW stuff lying around to paint and I won't be buying anything new unless I really need it for my army (not likely to happen).
After my exams I'll be looking into Historical and will dust off my Hordes army.

I voted for blue moon, but TBH I almost stopped in late 2011. However I'm still going to start new armies, the ones I missed ten years ago eg. classic Wood Elves, Brets and Lizardmen.
RIP Specialist Games, RIP Games Workshop, I need some pennyroyal tea....

Is this the best part of the forum for this?

GW general could just as well be called GW bashing.

Re: Honestly, Will you stop buying?

A bit less than half for me.

The Marine vehicle increase is too much - I've chopped two projects because of it. I'll get around to putting a bunch of assembled/primed Marines in the trade forum eventually now (that'll teach me to do infantry first, vehicles second...).

Still looking at finishing my Dark Eldar, as they were closer to done - will probably fill in my Raider needs this week instead of putting it off til late summer like I was going to. Necrons were relatively untouched by the price increase, so I'm not throwing them out the window yet.

I had just bought a VC Army Book before the price increase list hit...I really don't know what I'm going to do there. Not a lot of VC stuff got hit, but I'm still on the fence. All other Fantasy projects have been scrapped.

Money allocated for those projects is instead going towards skirmish games (Anima, Relics (check my sig, dammit! ), Bushido, Mordheim maybe) and Privateer Press.
