The Great White North is the home of the Emperor's Hosers. Unlike most Chapters, the Emperor's Hosers often have plenty of down time between wars due to the remote location of their home world to the rest of the Imperium. The Chapter's homeworld is located far to the galactic north and often cut off from the rest of the Imperium for centuries at a time due to fierce warp storms. During this down time, the Chapter often engages in the ancient Terran sport of hockey. Those Marines not participating in the games often watch from bars and the many coffee shops the locals call Timmy's. When the storms reside and contact is reestablished, the Hosers descend in force upon the enemies of the Imperium, favoring winter planets, brewery worlds, and any theater with a ready supply of back bacon.
Due to their extreme isolation, the Chapter often returns to the Imperium in excess of fifteen companies at a time, but with severe limits on equipment, most notably the complete lack of access to the Rhino chassis and Terminator armor. As such their methods of war are unorthodox to say the least. They do field numerous Land Raiders as this is the only vehicle pattern they have access to and always seek to adopt any new variants they encounter. They also maintain a unique variant, the Land Raider Zamboni, named in honor of their homeworld's primary forge. Forgoing transport capacity and the standard armament, the Zamboni has been fitted with heavier armor and a magma cannon as its sole armament. It has been noted by historians and, most notably Bjorn the Fell-Handed, that they operate in formations and with tactics common to the Great Crusade. These micro-crusades of the Hosers see great gains in the short term as they smash into any enemy they can find, often winning back entire systems for the Imperium. However, they suffer one great flaw; after several decades the warp cuts off contact and supplies from the Great White North. These micro-crusades do not stop or slow and often end in a terrible toll upon their targets as the Hoser fight to the last. While this has almost always allowed for the successful completion of their campaign, a more conservative approach may be of greater long run benefit to the Imperium.
The Chapter's history is shrouded in mystery, however, records of their Chapter extend back as early as M34. They acknowledge no Primarch as their founder and tests upon samples of their gene-seed have thus far failed to match any of the 18 known Legions or haven been proven to be a mutation thereof. It is not conclusive, but two theories have arise as to their origins. The first is that the corruption to their gene-seed is so great that recognition of the source is now impossible, which is most likely and under investigation by the holy Ordos Hereticus. The second theory is that the Chapter has gained gene-seed from numerous sources and over the millennia has mixed the gene-seed so as to be unidentifiable. Either is heresy of the highest order and only their fanatical, if short lived, operations have spared them from Exterminatus.
