Ancient miniatures and new stuff in my Vampire Counts Plog

Lovely game, still worth getting. Might want to check out Dark-omen.org.
Mordian/Praetorian Lovers of Warseer
My random Sci-Fi Plog, mostly Imperial Guard, Dark Eldar and CSM Recently finished: Mordian Rapier Laser Destroyer, also several tanks WIP
I was introduced (or rather convinced) by 3 people over time (one was interested through an independent gaming store, the other via Heroquest and another by the local Battletech scene which knew something about a game called Epic), and I introduced 4 people (half via Internet i.e. google Image search 40k, the other half via a box of Morgoths rising). Wargaming aside I just recently hooked 4 friends into Heroquest again. I bought my first miniatures in a comic shop, which sold Epic at that time.
I know of another 3 or 4 people who started through dawn of war, 1 who got to know it through a Games-Workshop store and about 5 or 6 who started via Heroquest themself over a decade ago.
I guess I am the lone person here who got in because of the internet. I saw a link to 'the anime inflected Tau' from a Penny Arcade blog post, and followed it over to GW's old site. I poked around and thought it was really interesting, so I bought the codex to read up on it. I really liked the idea of a non-collectible wargame, and Tau became my first army.

The HeroQuest commercial. Some years later there was an article about a gaming store/club in a local paper, which my mom showed me. I decided on 40K, then midway through 2nd edition. Started with Imperial Guard, cos they had horsies.
I got in the hobby by my oldest brother who showed me a game with mini's some 25 years ago, since then im hooked
sadly my brother died 8 years ago i made him a promise never to quit the hobby and some day finish his army.......
Shattered Oath - Ongoing Dark Eldar Log:

classic red is not bad!
The Eldar Falcon. A couple of friends in college had a couple of Codices in the late 90's and I leafed through them, but the rules and stats were incomprehensible and the pics uninspiring. But, I learned GW existed.
A couple weeks later I walked into my FLGS and saw the then-new Falcon kit on the shelf. I thought it was a weird jet with a turret on top at first, then I was told it was a battle tank.
Made by elves. In space.
Who fought beside a fragment of their god of war.
Who had wizards that could see the future.
And had Aspects who had no equal in their particular way of fighting. One of which consisted of screaming elf chicks with swords.
And for their arrogance, the whole race had fallen to ruin, scattered throughout the galaxy, with their great Enemy ever thirsting for their souls, hunting them ceaselessly.
And yet, to fight against these "Eldar" was folly, for their technology, battle prowess, and speed were unequaled. Only their numbers and frailty let them down.
I was hooked.
I still have the Falcon, although it doesn't match my current army. So, for me, my path to the game started with model > army > game system.
My Craftworld Yme-Loc project log It lives! Completed Night Spinner. Updated 11/27/12 Now with 100% more Dark Eldar!
I got Heroquest for Christmas and when the adventure design kit came out I wanted some models for my own quests and I had lost the Dwarf. There were flyers for this "Games Workshop" in the boxes so assuming it had additional adventure packs and monsters went into town to the nearest store and though they didn't sell Heroquest stuff I came out with a pack of 2 Marauder Trolls and 3 Drastik plastik Dwarfs.

What is unsupprising with this poll is how few of the people who voted were introduced to the hobby by a gwPLC Hobby Store. An arguement was made in a previous thread like this one is that it is because most of the young people introduced to the gwPLC Hobby TM by their own stores only last/survive in the hobby less than two years and so they are not in the hobby long enough to join up to forums and participate in polls like this.

I got into it through a friend when I was 12 - over 10 years ago. He'd been playing for a few years, and got a bunch of us (6?) into it at once when the Games Workshop had their grand re-opening sale (buy 2 get 1 free). This was at the start of the LOTR bubble: the second movie was just about to come out, and GW was booming, moving their store to the busiest shopping mall in the city, and opening two more in the process.
After a few weeks of reading some of his old white dwarfs, I took up with High Elves - they'd just been released they won the battle report! They must be good! I loved the elves in LOTR and I love dragons... My friends started with Lizardment, Chaos Warriors, Orcs + Goblins, Brettonia and Dark Elves.
Ten years later, and only me and the original guy are still playing. He's still going strong with Fantasy and 40k - I've got a huge Tau army, my elves are collecting Dust - and I'm collecting DUST too. My games are now Warmachine, Dust, Dystopian Wars, Battlefleet Gothic.
There was a gaming club at my Primary School, my best friend who does eldar went so I went to see what it was about, and voila!
We both still have the stuff we started with, though I have not used my wolves for a couple of years now....

A friend and i where really into the old fighting fantasy books, he came back from a holiday with issue 118 of White Dwarf saying i had to see the cool models in it. Some sporadic purchases inc the Metal Space Ork Raiders box and Metal Terminators set eventually saw me get Advanced Heroquest for my birthday. I actually got all my old models out last week as we where having a clear out of our house. So many unpainted models i have vowed to get them painted within the next 12 months or sell them on. My GF wont let me keep them otherwise. Sure i can hide some among my new purchases she will never notice.
There is no truth, only human opinion.
My group of friends ended up be-friending some older kids in high school and they introduced us to the wonderful world of tcg's, rpg's, heavy metal, gw and etc
Early 90s and the WH Smiths in Watford was selling Space Hulk (1st ed) pretty cheap so I got it for Xmas... Im still obsessed with Terminators!
Maulerfiends are on the loose, Maulerfiends are go;
Mauler, Mauler, Mauler, Maulerfiends!
I got into it through my brother, who in turn got into it through someone from GW visiting school and painting a moria goblin.
Mine was White Dwarf. I was very into RPGs at the time and my grandmother, being nice, tried to get me one of the RPG mags that were flourishing at the time and got me WD by mistake. Wasn't a total loss since WD had roleplay articles at the time (and did good SF/fantasy book reviews) but the Eavy Metal section seduced me.
I am old enough to remember when White Dwarf reviewed books and RPGs.
Proudly Warhammer's most cynical player.
A school friend brought some, albeit very badly painted space marines to school to show me, and I immediately fell in love with them. He gave me a mail order form, I bought some & the rest is history. Looking back, I actually think I hate him....![]()
War does not determine who is right - only who is left (Bertrand Russell).
War is a continuation of politics by other means (Karl von Clausewitz)
A friend of mine had Hero Quest and Space Crusade. Inside the boxes was a flyer with Space Marines and Orks printed on it. The rest should be easy to guess![]()

After I discovered that an older friend of mine played it, I asked him about it and he got me into the hobby.
I have been building models as a hobby since I was a child. Knowing this, A friend of mine recruited me. He showed me the various tanks and infantry of 40k, the quality of the kits, the optional bits and I was hooked.
