Your thoughts on the SM Stormtalon

So with the final release of the pictures of the new Space Marine Stormtalon there seems to be some very mixed reviews on the little craft some people posting their hate of the new craft others posting that they love it.

I'm interested to see what the current opinion of the Stormtalon is on here, with the Stormraven there seems to have been a very low opinion of the model before it's release then after he release the opinion seem to increase quite considerably.

Personally I think the Stormtalon looks amazing with it's over the top array of weaponry and it's small bulky design.

For 130 pts, it doesn't even have 3 TL-lascannons and the transportation capacity of 12. Phew

If it were in that game, I'd probably like it. As a 40k unit, I don't think it works.

I haven't really looked at the rules but visually I like it. Sure like many I think the AssCannon needs a swap/fix but I'd be happy to have one. I still think It would make a really wicked helicopter but as it is I like it. It has grown on me and I'm sure when I see it in person I'll like it even more.

It's ok as is, a bit squat for my tastes but ok.

I plan to get one and streamline it a bit by lengthening the tail slightly and mounting the assault cannons higher up in the hull where the sensor array bit is.

I really don't like it. The Stormraven, while hideously unbalanced, at least had the boxy Imperial look. This seems to be taken directly from any given video game (in fact I'm pretty sure I shot down of a few of those playing mass effect). It has little left of the boxy space marine vehicle look. And also, what was wrong with the Landspeeder Tempest? Couldn't they just have plastified that?
    Awesome. Awesome to the head.

As a marine stand point its very ordinary. As an ork conversion base, its an ork players wet dream, I can see a few Mega Deff Kopta conversions using it cropping up soon after its release

I know people have said this before but it does just look like something from a Hasbro range, maybe if the assault cannons were higher and the two rocket pods/las cannons/heavy bolters were taken off it would look fine. If I get one im just going to have two muzzles pointing from the two very small grills on either side and do away with everything on the front.

I'm hoping that GW's propensity for awful photos has struck again, because at the mo it is butt ugly. I hope that when we get to see it in the flesh, that some not too serious reconstructive surgery can do something with it.

On a different note, I think the Ork and Necron flyers are fantastic.

It looks very cool(especially with the missiles) if you ignore the stupid assault cannon on it's underside much like how the Storm Raven looked very cool if you ignored the stupid top mounted weapon.
It just seems to be an issue with Space Marine vehicle design.

The Necron Flier looks gorgeous though.

Well, i feel it fits right in sitting next to the Storm Chicken.

However, neither of those have the proper 'feel' to me - look at the Forge World stuff- and there they have the right feel. Its not the right kind of boxy.

The others are at least within theme: the ork fighta isn't as bad, but I'd still glue more random bits on it.
And the Necron nightscythe is pretty much spot-on to what I was thinking.

Re: Your thoughts on the SM Stormtalon

The original concepts were better - I'm not so keen on the rounded look at the front. It really should be more boxy to fit with other SM vehicles. That said, I definitely have a more favourable opinion of this than of the Stormraven when that was first leaked. I do now have a Stormraven, but only because I discovered the Chapterhouse Studios conversion kit, which makes it not beautiful, but at least acceptable. I'm hoping the Stormtalon is available to BA as well as vanillas, so I can dream of having a completely air-mounted BA force - speeders, talons and ravens. Mmmmmmmm, yummy...

Terrible model - looks like a caricature. I just don't think the SM aesthetic works with fliers. Also from a fluff point of view it's fairly redundant, just a chunky land speeder.

It's hideous and looks like it would never fly. And I love it for both those reasons. 40k has always been the realm of the absurd and this fits in perfectly!

The term "Abomination" might be a wee bit strong... but I don't like it the way it is.

Within seconds of seeing the leaked photo I decided that you could swap out the weapon array for the Dark Angels Landspeeder TL-AC, reverse the sweep of the wings to more typical delta wing formation, replace the super-bulky second weapon system with Cyclone/Typhoon launchers, and remove whatever the hell is growing on its back. All of that is doable with stuff I have lying around my bitz box and I think it would look 10x better for it.

I like it. Having seen it from different angles and with a few different paint jobs it's a very cool model. The assault cannon box is a bit big, but I'm even warming to that.

Re: Your thoughts on the SM Stormtalon

I'm not that keen on the chunky imperial fliers in general but I consider this a big step up from the raven (I don't much like the landspeeder design either). I'll probably do a similar conversion to Jericho but I think the basic chassis is ok, it just needs some heavy weathering to look a bit less toy-like.

It's a bit ridiculous to say the least. Having the chin turret bear the weight of the craft is particularly silly. However, I must admit it has a certain charm and expect I'll pick one up (just like the Stormraven) just to see how it can be improved aesthetically.
