Your thoughts on the SM Stormtalon

The short version of my opinion is I dislike all the marine flyers they're just so ugly. Just to be clear yes this includes the thunderhawk.

I thought the Robogear Condor looked a little to cartoonish for 40K when I first saw it, but apparently GW thought they would take this design and Cheese it up by about 300%

From what I've seen so far it looks pretty damn ugly. Nothing I wouldn't expect, by the way, since the Stormraven did look and is damn ugly, too. Seems like all Space Marine vehicles are destined to look like boxes. Some of them are just flying boxes.

Or in the case of the current Land Speeder . . . a flying shoe. Ahhh, for the RT days of the old Land Speeders that were essentially weapons and two seats stuck on the front of two massive engines. Now THAT was something a Space Marine would fly into battle on!

because they're cheaper mainly, and access to melta weaponry. Don't forget that one of the two most popular speeder configs uses entirely different weapons to what is available to the stormtallon.

Can any of you chap's help a thick 40 year old who's only just come back to the game after a few years break, decided to collect Blood Angels as a change, been Chaos Marines the majority of the time as my Khorne Berzerker tattoo's prove lol
Anyway i'm just collecting at the mo, not bothering learning rules and battling till the new version is out. So got really excited when i saw the new StormTalon, think it's great, no disrespect meant but really don't get why people aren't keen. So i went and purchased two, made a booboo aint I? now been told Blood Angels can't have them, is this true? please tell me they can? i want them and i don't like the idea i've blown £66

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Well it depends who you're playing with, in my small group of friends we have a rule that SM flyers can be used by all Chapters, so when you get round to playing it might be worth asking your opponents if they will let you use them. Otherwise you could use them as Counts as Land Speeders.

Or another option, which I don't really want too mention, is to change to a Codex Chapter to lose the risk of not being able to use them at all.

Oh and got my Stormtalon today, it's gorgeous!

I agree, just house rule it. It is silly that 'the armies of the adeptus astartes' use the stormtalon but BA,DA,BT,SW and so on can't. Silly. Same as vanilla marines should have the stormraven. That is how it works in our group....

Come play with us. We are all veteran players and quite sensible..... well, sometimes.

Must admit i am gutted that they are not legal choices, but everyone i've spoken to are saying the same thing as you guys so i'm a tad relieved lol keep walking into my kitchen and seeing this awesome looking flyer waiting to be painted, keep 1 return the second me thinks, cheers guys your advice has put my mind at rest.

I quite like it. I probably wont be picking one up anytime soon but it reminds me of an attack helicopter, which quite frankly is pretty awesome!

Got mine today. It's smaller than you'd think, especially compared to the Ork fighta next to it. Not too much longer than a Landspeeder, but about twice the mass. (Pics later, hopefully). It's an easy build, especially with the giant instruction sheet it came with. Unfolded, the thing is probably around 2' by 3'

I'm experimenting on two mods for it- replace the chin turret, and leave the winglets off the engines.

End result is an adorable little death pod.

Not to try and tell you how to have fun, just offering a different perspective: If all the marine chatpers got all the same stuff, why would they need different codices?
Differences in what they can take are needed to make them more than marines +1. For everything they get more, they should get something less elsewhere. Such as for example ravens instead of talons.

Totally understand what your saying fella, this is just my opinion, make the marines different with different story lines and histories such as Sanguinary guard or Tyranid hunters, Thunderwolf Cavalry ect but they all have access adeptus astartes so theoretical can choose from any variation of flyers and tanks, why would an Ultra marine not take a StormRaven if it fitted their mission better or a Blood Angel take a Blood Talon if they needed a gunship but had no use for troop carrying option? But like i said fella i'm just getting back into the game so i'm really rusty with the rules and things have changed lol

My guess before voting was spot on. I figured for the most part tanks/planes etc don't end up as "my favourite model ever" as they are generally far more generic then infantry, monster, robot, etc type models. So I wouldn't expect much in the awesome category. Then I figured the combination of people who just don't care about marines/vehicles in general. Then a split on the like/dislike. Leaving you at equal like/meh/dislike

Mostly because each chapter has its own factories and foundries and they don't just share the same motor pool. Blood angels just might not build talons, or need the plants to make their faster rhino engines. Just because one chapter builds it doesn't have to mean all, or even any others, do.

I bought one. I can see that I will like it with a little modding (liking the shopped pictures people have been doing). I'll own it on the basis I want to own at least one of every marine vehicle (oh forgeworld you WILL bankrupt me). Rules wise however its a waste. It could've been good (ie if it was a heavy support speeder) but it competes with the much better Typhoon and costs much more...

honestly, i disagree with the typhoon being better. I think they are on par with and each equally capable given their respective point cost. the differance in points is made up for by the assualt cannons (which can be brutal) and the mobility required to get effective use of both weapons. It's not typhoon +1, nor is it typhoon - 1, its just a different delivery system

Sorry I should quantify. My list is very trim and already has its 3 FA slots used. I can't aafford to drop anything in my list to take a Storm Talon. However, in friendly games I'd probably use it a lot.

You make a very valid point and i guess i'm just plucking at straws in the hope i could use the Talon in my BloodAngels army lol I really like the figure!
