How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

I'm curious what my fellow posters are doing to gear up for 6th. Are you planning a new army, expanding a current one or waiting with any purchases until you have the new rulebook in your hand? Or will you just change up your lists with what you currently have?
If you have multiple armies, which one will be the first you'll try with the new rules? In short what are your plans for the next edition?

Personally I'm waiting for the book before I make any more purchases. The only things that I do buy is cheaper models from ebay I like for their looks and not so much effectiveness (though they may be effective in game). I'm also hoping the game will be better balanced between all the unit types this time around, so we'll start seeing some more diverse armies.
Nurgle renegade guardsmen project log, now also a general chaos/daemons log Update 13-04-2013 Plaguereaper and the promise for more

Quantity is a quality all of it's own.

I'm waiting until all is officially confirmed until I do anything!

If rumours are true then my Dark Angels may get resurrected!
Some Latin inspiration: Nec Aspera Terrant; Hoc Locus Stercus Est

And some memorable quotes: 'Never forget that the entire point of this game is shooting girly elves.' (Dr Potamus); 'Hooray, it's another sunny day on WhineSeer. ' (Darnok); 'this might shock you, but even this hobby is filled with idiots...'(Botjer)

I am not planning any purchases until I have read the rulebook and read the FAQ for every army.
Until then I have some school work and some regular work to keep me occupied.
... Frankly, I have enough minis to paint as is. I will paint up more assault marines, finish my terminator SP, fix up a predator I bought from a friend and finish my Vindicator.

You stole the words right out of my mouth.

I'd love to see the (actual) rules and maybe give them a go. But I'm very happy with the GW material that I do have, and I rarely play at clubs, so I have the great fortune of being able to play the game the way I want to play it. That is, any edition 3-5, depending on what my opponent and I are in the mood for.

    I think I have.

    Great plastic range support.
    Good looking character models.
Entertaining character to the range (if your into that thing )
A few decent builds, and at this age of book thats amazing.
    The Ork flier.
    Not Marines.

    Noise Marines

That's cool, man. Orks also provide one of the best opportunities in 40K to get creative with scratchbuilding and conversions. I'm sure you'll have a blast.

Has just ordered a huge load Necron force, it will be exiting to use them. If the 6th Edition ruins the game for me and my friends then there is a big chance that I either sell my armies or we continue to use 5th Edition till the 7th comes out.
I do get the dreading feeling the 6th will be bad.

Re: How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

I do the same thing I have done with previous editions, nothing special, nothing out of the ordinary. I keep on adding units to my armies here and there the same as in the middle of an edition. In the end it doesn't matter a single damn thing to be honest. Things will always change with every edition and things that are useless in the next one will come back in use in the edition after. Whatever happens, it won't be the horror that the switch from 2nd to 3rd was so I'm not worried at all whether my units will be usefull or not. It'll work out, ofcourse I'm the silly bastard who uses units because they are fun, regardless whether they are good so most of the time that doesn't really get affected by editions so much as more by a codex change

How can you gear up for an edition you know nothing about? Rumors aren't as reliable as they used to be.

Barring an amazing change of direction from GW, ignore it totally due to it being awful. That's what's happened with 8th ed fantasy in our group.
Occasionally accused of being helpful and constructive.
One ring Book to rule them all, one ring place to find them, One ring Codex to bring them all, and in the Darkness future bind them. Time for the unified Marine Codex.

Snap. The rumours combined with GW's current direction don't have me hopeful. The ridiculous price hike was the final nail in the coffin.

Why should 6th mean you start a new army? surely it just results in money that would be spent on models is just spent on a new book i've never seen new models/codexs etc as a chance to buy more, it just means the range of options is now different

8th edition was both great and horrible at the same time. 8th Edition made the game fun again. Some of the rules in 8th edition need to be tweaked, and the magic system toned done similar to newer armies (O&G, Ogre Kingdoms, etc). Most of the changes from 7th to 8th were needed and make the game fun.

I hope 6th learns from what they did wrong with Warhammer 8th, and just brings the fun without hurting the game too much.

    So.. Praying.

Nothing really mate. I have a Marine Battle Company, a First Company and a good size demi-company of bikes and speeders. With that many toys in an army, you don't make any rush decisions!

Still, I am going to have to get some flyers as they will be an integral part of the next edition.
Free your hobby! Be creative and stop slavishly following the damn Book.

    RIP Brimstone.
I used to read the GW Other Forum, but I am much happier now.

Re: How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

I'd been toying with resurrecting my Dark Angels for a while, as they're my first army but also sorely dated having been built and painted 10-11 years ago; back when I thought that Dark Angels green for the armour and Blood Red for the guns was basically all you needed to do.

However, if they're being updated imminently then I probably won't bother for a while, as my Dwarfs still need more models, Sisters of Battle could use more tanks (one with interchangeable bits just isn't enough ), Warriors of Chaos could do with more… everything. Plus I don't really like collecting an army when everyone else might be doing the same thing

Still, I'm certainly looking forward to the Dark Angels update, and the changes in 6th edition. I'm hoping for a bit of a shake-up akin to 8th edition fantasy, something to roll elements of the expansions into the core rules, more universal rules, maybe universal war gear? Balanced (not nerfed) transports, maybe the discontinuation of Grey Knights as an army in favour of an Inquisition supplement… one can hope anyway!

Other than looking forward to it though I'm not doing anything special to gear up for it, there's no point until the changes are confirmed. I might have a go at sprucing up my 40k scenery and finishing my Realm of Battle though, maybe get some more 40k scenery (most of the scenery I use is actually from Necromunda!).

Re: How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

No special actions when it comes to me I guess. Still having an eye on the internet auctions, getting new (second hand) models, trying to paint at least some. If the new edition will suit me, that's fine. If not, well I'll take what I find suiting from it and incorporate it into my own set of rules. I do not play that much nowadays to be especially excited about it.

Re: How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

I have a hefty enough collection to buffer against edition changes. Stylistically, the majority of my army makeup hasn't had to change much since 3rd Ed. Play wise, I may have to shift a few things around, but I don't expect having to change much other than add/subtract a model or two and swap some weapons around.

(In other words: "Tactical Squads; check. Assault Squad; check. Devastator Squad; check. Terminators; check." etc.)

Re: How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

With the necrons updated, I decided to start a new army for 6th edition. Like my old 2nd ed Raiders I felt it was time to put the 3rd/4th edition tombworlders to sleep and start anew. This decision was also because of all the brand new kits and I had lots of ideas that didnt suit my old army (I wanted to go pure immortal route for example).

Re: How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

My main plan is to spend little. I remember when the last chaos space marine codex came out, my army got demolished and needed serious reworking... and then the new edition rolled out and I needed to rework it again. Gosh it was painful to endure. Sensible thing is to sit back and play it by ear

Re: How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

I won't be doing a damned thing until the new rulebook is in my hands, analysed intensely by me and several others so we get a more rounded view. Then I will change things around in my 3 armies if needed, but hopefully that won't include having to purchase any more models, because I don't want to give GW any more of my money if I can get away with it.
