Re: How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

I follow rumors closely, mostly play Warmachine (as I have for the last 6 months; no, let me get this right: I've played Warmachine for the last 18 months, but I had a single game of 40K this year so far), but for some weird reason I just bought the Harlequin (count-as Wood Elf Wardancers) unit I have been thinking about for over a year. I totally forgot that the new edition is just a few weeks away when I did, but I figure they will still be playable after the edition change, no matter what. Or probably gather dust together with the rest of my Eldar...

After the new edition hits, I'll probably get the new rulebook, study it carefully, and then either feel motivated to play some 40K, or just stick with Warmachine for the foreseeable future.

If the New Chaos Space Marine models are up to scratch, I'll be starting an Emperor's Children army, if not I'll carry on with one of my existing armies. Either way, I'm not gearing up for it at all, I'll enjoy the ride when it hits and then make my choices when I know what's happening.

At the moment im just painting for fun... just one off models to try something different. I have no idea what will or wont be worth taking in the next edition, so rather that big units or tanks you have to paint im just enjoying the change of pace for now

    A - pre-ordered the Ork flier.
B - painting troops as usual.

I do not fear a net set of rules as much as a new codex.

I'm preparing, by not staring a new (my 2nd) 40K army yet, and instead starting a new (my 4th) fantasy army.

Now that the new ork flyer is out, I may very well start orkz in the new edition. The kitbashing potential is insane! Dakkajet needz more dakka!

Not planning anything special for the new ruleset. More looking forward to the new CSM codex which will probably lead me to drop some cash on the new stuff.

Re: How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

Not doing anything with my current armies. Partly due to self-induced painting related apathy, the closure of the FLGS and generally just having a rest from 40K for a bit.

I will wait until the MRB and Boxed Set are out. Then decide which to purchase.

I have a notion to use the Boxed Set to build a Chaos Marine 'starter army' that can be used against or by newbies. Add in blocks to make it up to 1000 and then 1500pts. I'd like a heavy infantry army to play since both DE and Nids are pretty squishy horde forces. Might also be fun to get back into Marines after so many years not playing them...I think about six or seven.

At the moment, I'm more concerned with getting this years assignment work out of the way and getting back into Warmachine.

Re: How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

I am in a weird state with different armies really. My only real potential fear/pause is potential of percentages may cause me some issues.

CSM - Death Guard: Well I have most of the army built but have paused on completing not because of 6th edition but the upcoming CSM codex. I just want to make sure those last few FW upgrades are not given no longer available options. But for the most part I feel the army is going to be pretty much the same, as I don't see the points cost overly changing on Plague Marines, Terminators, Rhinos and Raptors which is my 1850 list and if they do, it won't be too significant up or down where I would lose much and maybe just allow to add something else. Maybe slight fear of percentages causing a bit of issue but I have tweaked some math and don't see any potential percentages being an issue.

IG (Renegade): Again with a bunch of FW conversion kits. I have just made my last purchase for the army prior to another price hike on chimera. I have no plans or worries about the army to be honest. I run 6, 10 men vet squads, 3 in chimera. So any percentages are not of worry if they come into play. I don't feel any rule(s) will alter the army in any significant way as not too field them as I will be. CCS, 6x Vets with 3 in chimera, 4 sentinel, LRE, Valk and Storm Troopers.

Necron: I have had this army only partially planned anyways as I was waiting to finish it by seeing what the second wave and fliers looked like as well as cost. Again I would love to set this army to be my first fully completed one for 6th but I am most worried about percentages with this army as currently my plans was for simply 20 immortals. So sadly this army is going to remain completely half set up until FOC/Percentages are clear.

Black Templar/Codex Marine/Blood Angels?: Way back in the day the 40k army that drew me into the game was Blood Angels as seeing painted armies of them were what was cool. By the time I actually started 40k, BT were all over this forum as rumoured or back in those times completely revealed pretty much. As a result I have 1500 points of BT built, but I have lost a lot of interest in them, and black armour is just not my forte. I have seen been tweaking and coming up with conversions I really want too do, but as it stands Codex SM are my best bet to fit them in, so I was planning on expanding/tweaking what I have plus extra into this army. I however of late have that whisper in the back of my head to get the BA codex to take a look, as the Baal Pred has been a tank I always have loved and all the custom paint schemes I end up liking tend to have red in them anyways, and I come down to liking tac squads, assault squads and stern guard so either can represent them.

Ork: Just a small army I started but lost focus as I just never could figure out how I wanted to finish it. Ultimately it is sitting at a Warboss, Nob squad, Ardboy squad, a trukk and battlewagon. The planes are definitely making me want to add some more nobs and planes too finish the army off now. But I have a lot of projects already that Im thinking back burner for now.

So 6th edition has me in a state of hesitation and pause on all but my IG. However if it wasn't for CSM up next that army would be complete and no hesitating either. So its more codex then a new edition.

Re: How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

Given that I haven't actually bought any minis for well over a year (it's amazing what Australian prices can do for self restraint) I'm not doing much different.

We really don't know anything solid about 6th edition anyway other than assumptions we can make based on patterns across the most recent codeces. The most substantial rumours we've had (apart from the apparently faked PDF) are over a year old now so no longer seem reliable.

I guess I'm in a weird state of anticipation of excitement, anxiety and apathy all at once.
WDL record with my Swooping Hawk themed Eldar list:-

    W: 2,836
D: 2 (I felt sorry for my opponents and started firing at my own units)
L: 1 (I played against myself using my undefeated footslogging Fire Warrior list and lost)

I really think that is where all 40k players are. Last time around and even for fantasy, people knew at least 3 months prior too changes that could/would drastically alter the make up of their current or planned armies, simply more then anything based off of percentages. This was most noticeable in the core and lord/hero sections followed by rare in some cases. The result could alter drastically. It didn't affect my ogres but my HE were drastically changed, and my VC army was a complete rewrite. However I was saved from a lot of time/money due to knowing this months in advance. This time around for 40k, we are really quite blind as to what will happen and as such pretty much I can see most armies or planned armies being on relative hold if they are not large massive collections or small forces of 500-1000 points. Anyone geared in the 1500-2000 point list range is at a point where if percentages come in would most likely be greatly affected. Based on most gamers only collecting a single list worth said points, I think the majority of people who play are on holding pattern

Just trying to get some stuff painted before launch day. I mostly skipped 5th, mostly.

Painting necrons. I have never played them before in my 20 years of GW. Starting something new and fresh. I like the way they play and more over they are a blast to paint. I hope to have them done before the new edition is here so im ready to take my toasters to battle!

I am going to see if I am interest in the new flyer rules and if not I am gonna keep my ork footslogging force the same. 6th really isnt going to phase me that much.

Snap. The rumours combined with GW's current direction don't have me hopeful. The ridiculous price hike was the final nail in the coffin.

Why should 6th mean you start a new army? surely it just results in money that would be spent on models is just spent on a new book i've never seen new models/codexs etc as a chance to buy more, it just means the range of options is now different

Re: How are you gearing up for 6th edition?

I'm gearing up for 6th ed by packing my 40k stuff away (except where it will be used for Tomorrow's War) and playing fantasy for a while.

I sat out most of 2nd edition and the game continued, so it's going to survive my not playing 6th.
I don't like the current direction of the game - and if 7th isn't any better, my 40k stuff will (except for select models) be dumped on the 2nd hand marker/in a skip.

I'm going to wait for someone else to buy it first. If it looks OK, I'll join in, if not, I'll try to cnvince people to stick to 5th (or Tomorrow's War).

Myself and my gaming buddies are sticking to 5th till we decide to go to 6th.
If I don't like 6th, ill just sell off my blood angels battle company, grey knights and imperial guard.
Where would I put the money from the sale, dark elves, because fantasy is just that much more fun XD
