    Lightbulb Random Army Generation

    Hey all,

So an interesting side effect of the good balance and versatility in KoW (and warpath as well) has led me to an interesting idea: Randomly generating an army to play with. It uses a simple series of rules, with the random selection aided in my case with a set of gaming dice:

    1) Randomly roll for the unit type out of the list. I found it's easiest to use a D20, and reroll any inapllicable numbers Note that if you have not already generated any Regiments or Hordes (Or have insufficient numbers to support further heroes/war machines) and you roll a Hero/war machine, you must reroll the die.
    2) Roll for unit size (Use a 1D3 usually)
    3) Roll for any unit upgrades. For these, i gave each unit a 50-50 chance for any upgrade (including free weapon swaps)

Note that for any of the above steps, if there are insufficient points remaining in the overall army cost to purchase the indicated unit, reroll the result until it's within the army maximum value (So if you can't afford to buy a unit upgrade, reroll until you get an upgrade you can afford). Repeat till you get a full army. In some cases, this means you need to reroll the unit type as none of the available options are within the remaining points available. After this is finished, any leftover points (usually <25) can be spent by the player as they wish on upgrades and such (Note that you can purchase "free" upgrades, but cannot un-purchase any that have been randomly determined).

As a result, I've found you get interestingly varied armies, sometimes with some odd or unexpected themes:
    Undead army 1:
Zombie Horde with Musician, Vamp Lord, Revenant Cavalry Regiment with Banner, Vampire on a Pegasus, Zombie Half-Regiment, Wraith Regiment, Vamp Lord, Werewolf Troop
    20 pts remaining.

Undead Army 2:Zombie Horde, Wraith Regiment, Vampire on Pegasus, Undead Standard Bearer, Mummy Half-Regiment, Ghoul Horde, Vampire on Pegasus, Werewolf, Soul Reaver Troop with Banner.
    5 pts remaining.

Elf Army 1: Stormwind Cavalry Troop with Banner and Musician, Stormwind Cavalry Regiment with Banner and Musician, Stormwind Cavalry Regiment with Banner and Musician, Forest Shambler Troop, Forest Shambler Regiment, Dragon Breath, Stormwind Cavalry Troop, Seaguard Regiment with Banner and Musician, Seaguard Horde with Banner, Dragon Breath, Bolt Thrower, Elf Lord on Drakon, Elf Lord on Drakon, Elf Standard Bearer.
    0 pts remaining.

Elf Army 2: Spearmen Regiment, Elf Army Standard Bearer on Horse, Sylvan Folk Regiment, Scout Regiment with Banner, Elf Mage Queen with Horse and Cat, Palace Guard Half-Regiment with Banner, Stormwind Cavalry Regiment with Musician, Elf Mage Queen with Cat, Elf Mage Queen with Horse and Cat, Palace Guard Half-Regiment with Musician, Bowmen Horde with Musician, Bowmen Troop, Elf Army Standard Bearer, Stormwind Cavalry Regiment, Scout Regiment with Banner.
    10 pts remaining.

While I don't think this would work as well with Warpath (Due to the inability of some units/weapons to affect vehicles whatsoever), I think this would be a fun, more casual game for practicing generalship over army-building (Not that this is a problem, thankfully ).
