Droken's all things imperial (Mainly IG and yellow fists)

Hello everyone, just came back from a shoulder injury that made it unable to paint and now I felt that after a long wait, I should post some of my creations for C&C's.

I'm currently painting a jungle themed imperial guard army (the 501st Vendolan) that's currently consisting of the following:

    - One Lord Commisar
    - One infantry squad
    - One heavy weapons squad

My current goal for this army is:

    - One Lord Commisar
    - A company command squad
    - Maybe two (three?) infantry platoons
    - A couple of sentinels, autocannons or heavy flamers preferably :-)
    - More heavy weapon teams - Heavy bolters and mortars!
    - Two Deathstrike missile launchers (YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT)
    - Two Valkyries
    - one Storm trooper squad, more in the jungle theme style. These will be transported in one of the valkyries.

I'll probably play this army in a tournament this autumn, if I have the time during the summer to actually finish this... I'll make a list of what's painted as soon as I've finished more than three things. :-D

    –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– –––––––––––––––––––

The armour will be painted brown (Mournfang Brown) washed with devlan mud and then highlighted from there. I've experimented some with different skintones, beards, different hairstyles and stuff and you'll probably be able to see all of these results here. Pictures will be provided for your amusement. : D

I have also painted the 3rd company Imperial Fists (with Rhinos, Razorbacks, a predator, a half-finished Land Raider and of course the mandatory Captain Lysander) which I will also provide pictures for.

With this log I hope to achieve a basic "want" for me to paint and paint well knowing that you, fellow wargamers, will be looking on this plog with your critics eyes on.

Well, 'nuff with the talking, here's the first few pictures of the Imperial guard:

Nice painting. The highlight on the green is a bit severe but I think it works out okay.

    Thanks for your comment :-)
Yeah, I've thought about that and started to glaze the pants with a green to kind of pick out the extremeness of the highlight. I dunno how that actually works out, I'll have some more pictures up tomorrow me thinks.

At last, a group shot of the small force – So far!

Looks like I got my camera working... Damn I paint sloppy.

    C n' C much appreciated :-)
Also updated first post with my goal for this project. Where we go from there... :-)

Oh! I'm also looking for some other types of heads to mix into the army. I've been thinking about empire flagellants but I'm not sure how that would work out... Anyone with ideas?

    Well, here we go again!
As I currently lack models to paint for my IG army, I started on a terrain piece for "display" if you can call it that. It's just basecoated (roughly) and washed heavily, there will be more, I swear ^^

This is with everything painted, and yes that's an imperial fists sergeant in the back!

I will unfortunately be going to Stockholm over the weekend, so no painting on this will be done then. Maybe the glue and wash will have dried by then. :P

    C&c appreciated!

    Until next time! ^^

    Le wild update appears!

    So, progress so far:

Paintstripped some old Kasrkin - Will be used as stormtroopers! Used normal household brushcleaner on them, paint flaked off like it was nothing. Tried it on plastic aswell, removes everything but the undercoat. Super-awesome-ultra-mega.

Well, I've finished the first ruin and started the work on my second one. It will be painted in a similar manner, ignore the small areas of paint on it now as that will be tidied up later.

First ruin. Sorry for the blurry picture, my camera would only get it this sharp...

    Well look at that close-up.

    Another angle...

    And second ruin:

    Front

    Side

    Other side

That's all for now, have primed the Kasrkin and will try to paint them during the week, or at least weekend. I will also try to have the terrain piece painted asap.
    As always, C&C appreciated.

Teenie update - did some painting on one of my old kasrkin. Started out with a plasma gun. I'm personally quite satisfied, just the base left now I guess!

    Front

    Back

What do you think? Camo on the pants good or should I switch to camo on the carapace?
    C&C appreciated!

Everything's looking really good! You've got a nice, clean painting style, which unfortunately disappeared in the earlier photos. These last ones really show a better side of the models. The lightning effect on the Kasrkin plasma is gorgeous, for one.

Really like the display terrain as well, thought about making more of the same size to eventually make a board? Would be an amazingly modular and detailed table of the kind you rarely see nowadays (go back to the 2nd ed books to see some awesomely filled up tables!).

    Keep it up mate,

Hey Droken, I personally think keep the camo on the pants and solid on the carapace, it keeps them from being busy from far away, but gives a close view a little extra detail, which is always nice. The terrain looks good as well, are you keeping it flat for model/gaming purposes? If not, I'd suggest grabbing a tub of plaster/sheet rock mud to create some natural looking variations in height, it doesn't take much, but I've found in the past that it really helps lend a scene a little more sense of realism

Re: Droken's all things imperial (Mainly IG and yellow fists)

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

BTB: Yes, I have to admit that I have been thinking about making a board. The pieces the ruins stand on is exactly 1" x 1" for easier setting up I'll see when I actually get around to making enough... Maybe when I have nothing to paint. ^^

Constant_ones: I'll keep the camo on the pants then. I've actually been thinking about using the board for gaming purposes and that's why it's kinda flat... I feel that if I use plaster or something similar (sheet rock mud? What's that? ) the figures will fall over when playing. But I will keep that in mind, maybe it's possible to do some kind of flat surface with plaster to make smaller hills than the one on the second board. Thanks for the idea.

So, it's going to be another busy weekend with MLG Anaheim (yes, I love watching Starcraft) and my younger brothers birthday so I guess there won't be a lot of time for me to paint in... Actually, this and next weekend will be the only busy ones from now on, and after that it's summer break (!) so I can do whatever I like (paint) when I don't work. Will try to have some pictures up of some more Kasrkin, maybe a Sentinel if I get around to it. Ah and yeah, I'll paint the other ruin as soon as I get more paint for it.

    So until next time.

The Kasrkin is really nice! Great camo pattern. The plasma looks cool too. Sweet display bases.

Small no-picture update for you guys.

Started working on a Sentinel and the rest of the Kasrkin squad.

I've just been totally swamped with work and homework and tests and stuff so I haven't been able to paint alot. Well, summer break now so... 'Ere we go!
Current work on the table is to paint and weather the sentinel and also paint the last Kasrkin. Then I am not sure what I'll paint, possibly a valkyrie or something like that.
Well, that's all for now, I'll put up some pictures as soon as I am finished!

Hell yeah! Summer break! Same thing for me so hopefully one can finally work on the stuff you want instead of homework....
Looking great so far. Solid paint scheme, looking forward for more

Re: Droken's all things imperial (Mainly IG and yellow fists)

So, as you can see, pictures weren't up yesterday *whistles*

I've been busy though, and here's the results:

This is the sergeant of a veteran squad - the face needs some cleaning up and the sword needs a little bit more attention.

The Kasrkin sergeant, obviously not finished but he's getting there. :-D I'm thinking about exchanging his sword for maybe an axe or something. Any tips? : D

Aaand, finally, the finished melta-member of the kasrkin unit.

I'm going to finish the WIP-sergeants and then start on the rest of unit.
Sorry for the delay, you know, start of the summer break and everything... I'm desperately trying to get back into my normal painting routine. Getting there. ^^
    As always, C n' c appreciated!

    Hey guys, it's been a while :'D

Well, I've finished my Kasrkin Sergeant, and started work on a Valkyrie and a Sentinel aswell as working on the rest of the stormtroopers.

WIP - Valkyrie with propeller wings. Gonna be running this with the stormtroopers and with MMP's.

    The base for the Valkyrie.

    Almost finished Sentinel ^_^

Finished Kasrkin Sergeant, I'm not sure about the power sword but I think it turned out okay.

More pictures later guys, critics and comments appreciated ^_^

Looking great! I especially like the Valkyrie. Can we get a better picture of the sentinel when it is finished? Hard to see any detail on that picture.
    Keep up the good work

Re: Droken's all things imperial (Mainly IG and yellow fists)

So, the 14th was my 18th birthday, and naturally, I got some plastic... :-)

I've assembled all of it short of another Valkyrie, but I guess it'll be done tomorrow. :-)

So currently unassembled/assembled but unpainted is:

    2 command squads
    1 Sentinel
    3 Infantry squads
    3 Heavy weapon teams
    1 Deathstrike missile launcher

And then the half-painted valkyrie and then the one not even assembled yet. :-) I'll have pictures up in the morning! Also, anyone knows how the rules are for putting something on a bigger base? I've tried to make a nice base for my company command squads voxcaster but it's a 40mm and I'm not sure if it actually can be that much bigger... I'll have to check the rulebook to see if it says anything. I'll probably get some more painting done soon too!
