    Re: Relics

To put it in clear words: you almost double the model-count in most cases. Or get a starter and add four blisters for free. Or add three minimum sized units and a commander per starter (three units), double the number of units and get a commander. All of course based on choices. You can mix together whatever you want.

Take my pile with two starters (Nuem and Orcnar: 8+6 miniatures): add 2 Specialis Pueri, 2 packs of Auxilium Concursus, 2 packs of Auxilium Sagittarius, Nuem Tormenta and Britanan Company Colour Party, which is another 13 models (my count based on current blisters) or 8 blisters.
That is before you get the 10 custom dice per starter and the post cards and free rules as a PDF.

    Re: Relics

I got a friend of mine in with Britannans due to the pile of swag even before the Tormenta/Colour Party/Spatga/Cylod point was hit. There's a massive amount of icing on this cake - I'm just hoping I've got enough to try and generate some more interest around here.

    -----

Question about art in the rulebook - do we get to see some scenery in addition to the various faction artwork? Or at least some descriptions? I'd like to put together a table of sorts, but I get the feeling the usual fantasy landscape wouldn't quite catch the Relics feel.

    Re: Relics

Aahh, may I point you to my general project thread, last post for some custom Vaettir terrain, or go check my terrain plog on the Tor Gaming forum, it is more complete.

It is also discussed on the Tor Gaming forum. Someone else is starting some Orcnar terrain and I think I saw it mentioned some Britanan terrain will be made. The official stance at my first request was that there are plans for terrain sets and I got a PDF shown with some sketches. Just log in there and you can see it for yourself.
Personally I think you can get away with the rule of cool for now and bugger the hell out of Tor Gaming to make it official.

    EDIT: picture:

No need to plug that plog

Well, that's a handy reference for terrain-building, Little Joe! You're quite good at that...very inspiring.

    Re: Relics

@loveless: Thanks, but I am still just experimenting around mostly. Always trying new materials and stuff is most of the fun. I will write a tutorial on these for the Tale of Terrain Builders it is quite easy.

There they are, this was my experience with Tor Gaming at the time as well. Fast and helpful, quite refreshing in a games company. Hooray for that!
Now those portals look tasty and hopping around the battlefield would be nice for tactics, also nice holding points for scenarios. Roots would be hard but nice, I will give it some thought.

    Re: Relics

Here's the flavour text for the first post:

    Completed Vaettir text:

The ancient Vaettir awoke from the darkness in a time when Relicia was still young and untainted. The changes they have seen the world go through in their lifetimes has left them cold and bitter and throughout history they have been forced to make ever increasingly difficult decisions to save it from annihilation.

The mistake was theirs; the long task of righting the wrongs they have caused is theirs as well. The Vaettir have decided on their path to restore the world and woe betide anything that tries to stop them.

    Nuem Text:

Ousted by the long legged Unglandans, forsaken by their Gods and ultimately deceived by the treacherous Naedre, the Nuem have endured despite all of this.

A lifetime spent suffering in the darkness has left the children of Encartria twisted and corrupt and the only thing that they desire is to inflict pain and torment upon themselves and their enemies.

Guided by the teachings of the Blessed Child they seek out their ancient enemies and inflict sickening tortures upon them, leaving a terrible path of destruction wherever they pass.

    Re: Relics

Well the Indiegogo project is over and so we can no longer break any rules by discussing it fully. Ironically the last target was only just missed by the initial target.

But like mentioned above all who pledged should have gathered quite a pile of goodies. To me that is not the most important part though. Relics is buzzing. Many new members have joined the Tor Gaming forum and Like I said there I am looking forward to see Bubbatron (excellent painter) paint some of these miniatures. loveless has started this thread here on Warseer which is shaping up nicely. So the best part to me, is to see it on the menu more.

My first contact with Relics was here on Warseer in the plogs, I think, I saw some Britanan troopers and was sold. So I went over to the old Tor page and got a starter to test the water. I received a blister cramped with miniatures, nowadays you get these fancy cans. Rules were in the work and lists had 12 profiles, number 13 was a bit of an democratic project I failed to come up with anything interesting for. There will be more profiles, number 14 for the Britanan is a cannon, and of course there is Saint Nik whom I hope will have a special scenario or joins the ranks as a special character one day.
For now I am working hard to get the Vaettir and Britanan all painted up, I am not that fast as a painter, but with the Tale of Skirmish Game Painters here on Warseer it will get done a lot faster. Skirmish Game? Well yes there are also some overlooked rules in the work for a more skirmishy game called Relics Clash. But even the big game is skirmish level to anybody who has a fantasy army for Warhammer these days. I also use the Tale of Terrain builders to get some different fantasy terrain as above shown and done. I like to make terrain and Tor Gaming has been most helpful with getting some ideas on the road and there being a next tale I will most likely build a double table to drag around for that.
And now I have a bunch of Nuem incoming joined by some Orcnar, I think we forwarded the release scheme by quite some time and a larger player base hopefully means a more regular release scheme as well. The Ridend look quite interesting and the C'thu artwork is amazing. I like all the artwork a lot, thumbs up to Christian Schwager for that.

Unfortunately I have been collecting so far, but hope to get a game very soon. But if someone lives near Vaals in the Netherlands and fancies a game, just PM me. I have most of the models available .

Yeah, what happened to that plog?

Very excited to get all of the stuff in hand and get to work on it. I just want to congratulate Tor on a very successful campaign. You guys have got a busy period ahead of you - lots of sculpting to do (and some concepting, too!).

thanks for the very nice compliment Littlejoe , id seen the Relics minis before but it was your first post with the kickstarter along with your skirmish painters tale minis which got me interested more in them, ive kind of moved away from big battles and more to skirmish style games now, plus it gives me more lovely minis to get some paint on !

    Re: Relics

@GommezAddams: Yeah, what happened to that great scene with the marksmen and the Huntawalu?

@Monkey: Ooh, close contact to the visual designer, nice! I have my hopes up for a first game on Sunday myself.

@Bubbatron: Well they are very well painted and I like to check on well painted models, so that is good.

I can understand that, I think I moved away from huge bulks about two years ago. Reducing armies and models, but I do like to see large armies, so I still have two very large armies (plus one smaller), mostly unbuild, because I started over again with newer models or stripped all the old ones during those two years. Nightgoblins gave me a painting block after about 200 of them and then the first tale of skirmish game painters was born. I was introduced to a new world of hobby I liked a lot. It also improved my painting.
In order to stay within my budget I have reduced the supported skirmish games to three as well, crowdfunding is killing my budget of late but I am fine with that. Before that it was eBay, getting all the GW metals I still wanted. Since that is basically done my budget now flows freely towards the smaller games. Actually I doubled my monthly budget and I like what my money gets me.
It is also great to keep up with things and actually get them painted as well, the tale helps of course. And the variation takes care of me never losing interest and always new things to try. So with relics I chose the same route, get a full unit of everything, paint it and get next unit. I still only have an Orcnar starter coming my way so there is still room for adding, my Vaettir and Britanan also have new toys now for me to add. That seems to work fine so far. The speed of painting has gone up as well again recently and I am confident I will paint my pile from the indiegogo project in due time. I have even started to get some Nightgoblins done again.

With the project I can get all the new Nuem models available and get full units as well with two different starters. I am really looking forward to those, I haven't painted so much metal in a long time and it should be interesting to try a few new things. Dwarfs are my first army and I have a soft spot for dwarfy things, so I am quite happy with all the automatons that come with these dwarfs.
Speaking of goblins, I look forward to some knightly chicken riders as well. The first two miniatures I bought were two Bretonian knights and I gave up on them because I was a painting noob that long ago. Now I can do checkers and even more fancy stuff so when those are released I have plans, very colourful plans.

    Re: Relics

So whats everyone gone in for then? On top of the Nuem starter, I'm nabbing...

    - Nuem Specialis Pueri
    - Nuem auxillium concursus
    - Vaettir Cwalu (love the concept art for these, although deciding between these and the highlanders was tough)
    - Britannan Color party (Mrs Addams choice, although we both want the drummer)
    - Britannan dice bag (guess who for...)

So yes, very happy chappy indeed.

    Re: Relics

I consider this one of the "next gen" fantasy games, as iv noticed theres been several really creative and original fantasy games coming out lately - they seem to be dumping the overdone tolkein-derivative tropes and doing something much more imaginative and fresh and Relics is definitly one of those games.

I definitly plan to get into it - however I am waiting on the C'thu, for obvious reasons being an utter lovecraft-nerd. If they do a kickstarter for those guys, I shall definitly invest in a starter box!

I do like the Nuem though - I mean I've been moaning how dwarfs are always done in the same way each time (the tolkien derivative or the GW chaos dwarf come to mind) - and these Nuem feel like a very fresh and original take on the Dwarven archetype that I definitly appreciate. A little more folklore-esque with them being ugly and deformed looking, which I like. I'd like to see a little more folklore influence in them - i.e. newborn being maggot-type things.

    Re: Relics

I went straight faction for my 3 starters (yeah, I went there). So Britannan, Vaettir, and Nuem. I just can't get into the Orcnar.

I'll second TimLeeson, though - do something like this for the remaining factions and I'm all over it.

    Re: Relics

I went for all the Nuem and Britannan options, the Vaettir and Orcnar just don't look like they'd be fun to paint (for me anyways).

Want to grab the C'thu and Goblins when they come out though, and maybe the Nadre depending on what they look like, so I'm interested in any future Kickstarters Tor do. Even if they're on a smaller scale to this one.
