Urban war - new faction - Neo Iskandrians

    It starts with a ripple.

Urban Mammoth have released some teasers about the new faction for Urban war and some background fiction to accompany it with more to be released every week in the run up.

This adds more backgound to the world city of Iskandria. I have always thought that background is very important in game systems to deliver the right setting and mood.

The first chapter is here on their website
    Chapter 11: Skies of Fire

2844.09.03 VST - The First New Man

I see the coming of those you believe will threaten your so-called existence, but you know not your nemesis. Just when you believe you have overcome your trials, then you will see and embrace your destruction. A tomb shall suffice, for those for whom all the galaxy was insufficient. I care not for your naive machinations, for they are as nothing compared to the vision of the future: our future, my future, the future of the New Man.

Iskander, Reflections (Holorec MCCCLIX bio, case a)

there is also sneaky 3D renders of the upcoming faction, So far i really like the sculpts, they have a very macedonian feel. i'm really looking forward to seeing them in the metal and im wondering what colour scheme they will go for.

The 3d sculpts are on their facebook page

Re: Urban war - new faction - Neo Iskandrians

    Chapter 12: The Prophecy

It has been long written that he would return, and conquer once again...

Chapter 13: The God of War

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing; a lot of knowledge, likewise. And none, most dangerous of all.

Lucidity Koslova, VASA Special Ops Division.

    Chapter 14: The Necropoli

Like all good things in life, glory requires sacrifice. The passivity and tendency towards the defence exhibited by some inexperienced officers has at its heart a desire to evade the inevitable price of victory. I repeat: no amount of skill on the part of higher commanders, no training, however good, and no superiority of arms, however great, will allow victory to be won without being paid for in blood.

Praetor Aemellius Lucan, Instructor-General of the Ironglass Military Academy

    Chapter 15: Cyclops Dream

I have returned. The so-called 'Great Powers' flail blindly, but I see clearly, for I have the sight of the one true eye. Come, my children, for I alone can guide you through the darkness which threatens to engulf our galaxy. The future is mine, my children; envy and greed have conquered it for me.

Iskander, First of the New Reflections

    Huh, cool!

I knew the models were still available, but I hadn't realized they were still producing new stuff. I like the look of that 3-legged robot/walker/thingy.
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

Generally their robots/walkers look quite nice, and are suitable for all sorts of sci fi projects.

Urban war is a fast paced sci-fi skirmish game set in a brutal far-distant Galaxy. ussing small teams of soldiers to fight in the worn-torn city of Iskandria (one continent sized giant city)
Its a game that can be played with two or more players (plays very well multiplayer).
Games will take between 30 minutes (Starter Strike Team sized battles) up to around 90 minutes (300 point battles- standard size) to play.

    Urban war website

The game is currently on its second edition and i really enjoy the gameplay as it is alternate model activation. This makes the game flow really well.

It's a really cool game. Wish more people around here played though. Still, looking forward to seeing the Neo-Iskandrians....

UW is a great game, they had so much going for them! The guys at UM were touring the country getting ppl to play in tournies getting clubs to playtest various rules for them. At one point we were playtesting hazerdus terrain for them. At one point UW was one of the most played games at my club! But one of the guys from the UM team moved away and it all fell apart from there, No follow ups to the rules no more mini releases, the forum had become a ghost town and the game slowy drifted away. I dont feel it will get as popular again as it was in my club now due to the amount of skirmish games that have been introduced to our club since then but I hope it does! Now Metropolis was a huge letdown it went from skirmish to squad combat that worked really well but if you incuded one of the new CLAU's (i think that was what they were called, large walking mecha type things) it became a game of whoever blew up the enemys CLAU first won the game as nothing else could touch them and some of them could take out whole units at a time! I would of liked to of seen Metropolis advance as it had so much potential, if they fixed the CLAU's rules and released some plastic sets (metropolis was horribly expensive due to all metal army) I think it could of been taking quite far!

that seems to happen a lot with games. its really cool, someone leaves(or dies), game isn't nearly as awesome as before. Still, they have to compete with Infinity now(40k's to far gone from squad based to do much damage).

As the insider that I am into all things Urban War related, I can tell you this:
    - Hazardous terrain is back on the schedule as a small project that will be done inbetween the main releases. Expected to be released within half a year.
    - The Urban Mammoth team has been expanded since John Grant left and this resulted in a total restructuring of the company. It took some time, but UM is now ready to rumble with the Neo-Iskandrians as the first big project.
    - Monthly releases have been coming steady since March
    - Urban Mammoth has a bigger digital footprint with people being active on forums like this one and with a Facebook page with news, previews and polls.
    - The Legion program has been redesigned and vastly improved with cool exclusive items to be had by participants and a lot more tools for volunteers to work with.
    - Second Edition rules have improved this great game even further and made it a lot easier to learn and appeals to a broader audience
    - All the products are more complete now with things like Stat cards included
    - Metropolis 2nd Edition has not been planned yet, but if it does get scheduled, plastic will be the way to go. CLAU Team-Actions 2nd Edition has been scheduled though.

I hope this has been useful/enlightening.
