Thread: Aéquitas' Snowy Skaven

These look lovely. The pure white snow makes a great contrast with the grimy rags of the Skaven. The attention to detail on the bases (like the cross on the rat swarm) sets your stuff apart.

Clanrats filler 90% done. Need to add a fresh powdery layer of snow and maybe one more clanrat. I think it might ruin the amount of detail in the mini diorama this filler turned out to be though so would like your opinions about this.

I think you shouldn't add any more rats to the filler, as it'll just get too busy. Really like the jubilant expression of the Clanrat running off with the wheel. He's off to pawn it for warpdust, right?

I'm a big fan of unit fillers and this is one of the best I've ever seen. I think it would look crowded rather than busy if you put more clanrats on the base. However, I think a few more giant rats crawling around the clanrat's feet and out from underneath the cart would give it that skaven-ny business that it needs.

This looks awesome, even more so in real life...

I have bumped into this army at a local tournament in Tilburg Netherlands and its looks cool.

And because of a weird case of reselling I saw a banner that i painted back in this army. Super weird...awesome battle .

    Yay, more Dutchies!

More on topic, those are some nice Skaven! The snowy bases work quite well and the unit fillers are brilliant!

Was a cool tourney, be prepared for the doubles in july

I will post the models he painted in a few days, especially the banner deserves a showing. Currently working on the Hell Pit Abomination. Tough model to paint, much harder then I expected. The amount of detail on it is insane so highlighting the model is taking lots of time and I'm planning on doing 3-4 highlights a few different colour heavily thinned washes for the different patches of skin. I hope to make enough progress on the skin tomorrow to be able to show some pictures.
I will do all skin first before I do any work on the metal, wood, bone and tubes. Didn't add the heads or engine yet to make the painting easier so he will look a bit off

    Hellpit in progress....

Basecoat and first highlight (out of 3 or 4) done.

Normally I'm not a huge fan of in progress pics but seeing as this model is so massive in the amount of details I think I need to do so to keep me going

Have a bit of a sore back which is stalling progress on the abomination. But I had some time toying with a new conversion project:

Whoa, why have I never seen/thought of converting fanatics like that? Great army so far.

Started working on a Sliver inspired Plague Censor Bearer

Prepared another one of the Furnace Monks to go Censer. This guy has a bit of an annoying pose since he is leaning back but the thing I am trying with him is equippingn him with just a long chain with a Censer instead of a stick-rope-censer like you see with flails. The right hand ( the one he is holding high ) will get a short piece of chain with a Censer at the end dangling from that hand.

I could use some tips in how to appropriately use this ones pose to not look weird.

Got my heads in the mail today so I have also done some small conversionwork on the Plague Censer Fanatics!

    Re: Aéquitas' Snowy Skaven

I love the idea of the plague censers from fanatics, but I think the chains are a bit long. To me, goblin fanatics are supposed to look silly and exaggerated (they are essentially being pulled by the force of their swing) whereas censer bearers are supposed to have an ominous warped religious feeling to them--something that is almost calm by contrast. With the longer chains in the upswing position, I get too much of an "active" fanatic vibe. Maybe I need to wait to see the finished product, but right now, to me, it lacks the "horrifying rat monk swinging a flail of deadly incense" aspect.

Other than that, I really love the project, especially the unit fillers. I think the large horde-blocks really need some type of localized activity to really break up the redundancy.

I kind of agree with your comment about the chains being too long. However I disagree with your description about teh plague censer bearers. In the description from the Skaven book you will find this:

The fumes of the censers fill them with an unnatural rage. As they near the enemy battleline the foaming and fanatical Plague Censer Bearers increase the arc of their swings in encircling rings as they dash towards the foe. Reckless and fully deranged, the Plague Censer Bearers often fall victim to their own weapons, inhaling a final lung-full of pollution or even impaling themselves with their own ball and chain.

So in that light I think the look they have now fits them very well. They are way more active fanatic then passive fanatic when they near combat. Still the chains might be a tad to long and could be halved to make a somewhat better look and get them to rank up a bit better when they get into combat.

Yeah, reading the excerpt, I see your point. Maybe if the chain had a bit of curve to it, like it's swinging instead of dragging?

    Re: Aéquitas' Snowy Skaven

Got an update on one of the Furnace Crew PCB's

I'm out of superglue so I'm having a bit of a hard time trying to really get the reaper chains stuck without them losing the pose to gravity. I also accidently broke the chain on his lower hand sigh....
This is the best I could do. Could use some comments on the way I modelled the chains. Is the curve looking natural? Is the pose making sence? Do I need to change anything to make it look better?
