Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 9 (May painting and June WIP)

    Time for comments:

What is the matter, guys? Only 1 page to comment on?

@ Red Skullz: Love them, especially the Trolls.

@ Zark the Damned: Great work on that giant, and a very big bonus for productivity.

@ EmperorNorton: Nice one, but for my taste he is a bit too clean.

@ azhagmorglum: more nice trolls, but I can understand you. A bit of diversity is a good thing.

@ juicytomatoes: Even a small progress is a progress. She looks nice, but a little less Nipponese than I expected.

@ Tekore: Not much to see on the pic so I can`t say something to the painting.

@ Great horned owl: Now, they are elveses, what do you expect? Even so, nice painting and bases.

@ Morkash: Not the best pics, but I like him. Great work.

@ nagash66: Love them, even if I prefer the evil ones. Very clean painting.

@ Doi: Love the base of that Stonehorn, perhaps the fur needs a little more depth. The Hydra in the snow is ok, not the best but a nice addition to your army.

@ gogs78: I know how you feel, not nice to have to miss things because of the eyes.

    Sorry I'm late.

    Dawi : 2000 POINTS (MEN)

UNIT: Nine Hammerers to finish the regiment.

    BACKGROUND/THEME:

BUILD/CONVERSION: No actual hammerer models here again, they're a mix of 6thed plastic warriors, some minis from the Skull pass set.

PAINTING: For the metal, chainmail, with a badab black wash then a chainmail drybrush, For the skin, Tallern flesh with an ogryn flesh wash and a dwarf flesh drybrush. The gold was gryphonne sepia over chainmail and the same yellow as the rest of my throng.

BASING: Was done the same as the rest of the Dawi.

STILL TO DO: Just the basing.

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 9 (May painting and June WIP)

@ red skullz : you had a very productive month, didn't you ? The unit of trolls is great and the conversions ace. The orcs and goblins look suitably disordered, and the pump chariot is a good conversion as well as well painted.

@ Zark the damned : great giant and ogres. It's nice to see those metal golfag's ogres, I'm old enough to remember when they where released and they have a lot of character. The rest of your monthly entry is just as good.

@ DAGabriel : I like the colour scheme you achieved on the 3 models. It suits the forgeworld model very well and the big hat too. I'm not fond of the very old chaos dwarves, but it's just my taste.

@ Braad : too bad, I'd have liked to see more orcs from you ^^

@ EmperorNorton : that wizard is just brilliant !! Very neat painting and nice choice of colours. 10/10

@ juicytomatoes : nice character and painting, and your army is full of character.

@ Jack Daw : too bad, see you next month

@ Tekore : nice update, and the army is looking great now

@ Great horned owl : Nice elves, and the choice of basing is a good one

@ Morkash : good ogre. The extra armour is great. The wips look very promising.

@ nagash66 : nice dwarves, though the red parts lack a bit of vibrancy (??)

@ Doi : that stonehorn is great, and the two hunters full of character. Your painting and subtle conversions have made them stand out.
The hydra is efficient as well.

@ perplexiti : it's a great army that you achieved to paint. I wish I was at the same stage as you, but I have a lot more work to do before :-( the lizardmen as up to a good start

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 9 (May painting and June WIP)

Hello, ToFP people. I hope you don't mind me dropping in but I just looked through this month's thread and just would like to say congrats to everyone still on the job. Nine months is quite a while and all armies posted so far are looking really nice.

@Red Skullz: As I wrote in your log already, nice work and very, very impressive output for one month. Looking forward to seeing those OOP spiders!

@Zark the Damned: This is one cool army. DoW are one of my favorites in WHFB and it's great to see that someone still makes new armies of those. Nice choice on the Duelists. I painted a bunch of these Freebooter minis before and they are really pretty. I like the colour scheme on the pike units as well. May I ask what rules you're using for them? The old 6th edition DoW army list? Oh, and to you as well: Impressive speed there. 1305pts a month!?

@DAGabriel: Another kind of "niche" army. Good stuff. Do you make the bases yourself?

@EmperorNorton: Nice and clean. Reeeeally pretty highlighting/shading on the folds on the blue cloak.

@azhagmorglum: Another very cool looking army! You make good use of really cool models, nice basing, love the blue face on the one "classic" Squig. The back on the Wyvern looks very promising.

@juicytomatoes: I've just been to Riceball Minis' website earlier today! Anyhow, the Ashigaru look great ranked up like that and the magician is very nicely done. Now that I think of it - I'm fairly sure that's exactly the same I posted in your painting log some days ago.

@Tekore: Cool looking army. I like the distinctive colouring and basing. They really look lively.

@Great horned Owl: Nice to see these minis used. You're going for a really royal-looking scheme. Pretty snazzy.

@Morkash: Servus! Those are some seriously neat conversions. I like how each of the guys has his own look and character. Do you usually play at Spielcafé Melange?

@nagash66: Once more, nice and clean painting. I like the colourscheme too. To my knowledge that's a pretty rare one for Dwarves. Looks good though, I like the red/black halves on the helmets especially. Also: See, this is one of the reasons the older paintpots are way superior to any of the new round-top types.

@Ogre King Doi: Nice work on that Stonehorn. I have to admit that I never ever wanted to look that far down the maw of one of those though. Really nice painting, especially on the "stone" parts.

@Dark Elf Paintslave Doi: Different to your Ogres in style. The colour scheme is very striking with the snow bases though.

@Dwarf Thane perplexity: Wow, this is one big army. Congratulations.

@Breeding pool overseer perplexity: Again, nice stuff and for some reason I really, really like the army shot. This army looks like a very nicely rounded-off force.

Well, thanks for letting me have a look. It's nice to see how diverse the armies in here are and that there is none of the "flavor of the moment" stuff going on really. I just looked through the roster and saw surprisingly little Empire in there (in the men's league there are even as many DoW armies as Empire ones!! ) Anyhow, good luck to everyone still in and I'm looking forward to seeing the next updates!

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 9 (May painting and June WIP)

ARMY: Imperial Dwarves (Empire proxy) - 2000pts (MEN)

UNIT: 9 Knights (Pony riders) including Command

BACKGROUND/THEME: A merry band of mercenary Dwarves. They fight, brawl, drink and swindle their way across the Empire, and often inspire more fear and worry in the villages and towns they 'protect' then the dark beasties who prey upon the lands of the Empire. They are led by the eccentric Lord Purplebeard, a strange Dwarf who loves fashion and rambling on about 'legendary' family ties, being a dispossessed Prince (supposedly) and his 'lost family fortune'. Many doubt his tall tales, but he has proven himself on the field of battle.

BUILD/CONVERSION: WK Minis (WK Miniature Imperium)

STILL TO DO: Tiny bit on the horses, plus the basing.
HIGHS & LOWS: High - finishing something!

    POINTS: 248
    TOTAL POINTS SO FAR : 226 + 248 = 474

DICE ROLL : 6, but I'll try and comment on as many entries as I can!

    Pony riders

Now I know that my output has been poor for this army this year, but I still think that I can come away with a finished army.
I have managed to get hold of some greatsword proxies and a couple of characters (thank goodness!).

From left to right - Hero, General, Battle Standard

    Greatswords

    And a cannon

This lot will get me to a 1000pt army, and is manageable within 3 months. So I'd like to request that Braad/Malorian move me down to the 'Boys' category on this army. The other 1000pts will have to go into my Book of Grudges, as a grudge against myself <grr>.

    More to follow.

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 9 (May painting and June WIP)

ARMY: Warriors of Chaos - 2000pts (MEN)

UNIT: Chaos Sorceror Lord of Tzeentch on Disc (1/2)

BACKGROUND/THEME: The evil Rainbow Warlock is a master of wizardy and enchants all he meets to his dark cause. Men, beasts, and strange creatures rise up and follow the melody of his enchanting voice and hypnotic eyes, and follow him on his mystical crusade.

    BUILD/CONVERSION: OOP Citadel/GW figure.

    STILL TO DO: Basing.
HIGHS & LOWS: High - finishing him. Low - now that I have, I can think of 2 or 3 different ways I could paint him better.

    POINTS: 225
    TOTAL POINTS SO FAR : 910+225 = 1135 pts.

DICE ROLL : 6, but I'll try and comment on as many entries as I can!

    Chaos Rainbow Sorceror

The wing patterns were based on pictures of real butterflies.

Additionally, I have made good progress on my first batch of warriors:

    Chaos Warriors of Khorne

These guys will be put in a unit of 18 with FC and moved about on their bases until they rank up reasonably well. I have 865pts to go and I think it will be fine as chaos warriors and knights just eat up points.

  13. #33

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 9 (May painting and June WIP)

ARMY: Gnomes (Empire proxy) - 1000pts (BOYS)

UNIT: 6 Pony Riders including FC (Knights) + Mounted Cleric (Warrior Priest)

BACKGROUND/THEME: A Hold of Dwarves living in the far north of the world, in a region under the terrible influence of Chaos. Led by the ancient and dwindling Purplebeard family, they fight to survive against the unending tide of Chaos. Many Gnomes live and fight alongside them too. The Gnomes/Empire thing is basically an excuse to find a use for old-school figures like wizards, spearmen, archers, and all sorts.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Very old GW figs, some with greenstuffed helmets and equipment, and minor conversions. the spearman/standard is a Ral Partha Europe figure (on GW horse), and the musician has had his drums greenstuffed on. The drunstick is brass wire with green stuff on the end. The cleric has a converted helmet and hammer.

STILL TO DO: Tiny bit of work on the horses + basing.
HIGHS & LOWS: Low- taking so long to get through them.

    POINTS: 142 + 50 + 125 = 317pts.
    TOTAL POINTS SO FAR : 365 + 317 = 682pts.

DICE ROLL : 6, but I'll try and comment on as many entries as I can!

Gnomes - 6 cavalry inc FC plus cleric.

    Close-up on command group.

    Mounted Cleric

I'm glad to be near the end of the cavalry guys - there is just 1 more to do after these fellas (then no more, ever!). My plan is to get hold of another character to fill 125pts, then a unit of 10 crossbows with full command (115). Then I'll just have to find 78pts worth of stuff to fill up the points.

@nagash66: Stop making me wanting to re-do a Dwarf army

    - Dark Elves: Love that monochrome style!!

    @perplexiti:
    - Dwarfs: buggers, another great looking Dwarf army! Massive work and looks great
    - Lizardmen: great looking army so far, maybe introduce some other coloured beasts to lift the overall

    Comments time!

Red Skullz: That is a whole lot of miniatures done! Congrats - They look great! And thanks for the compliment about my minis.

Zark the Damned: Painted over 1300 points worth of models? You make me feel small, you do... Love the variety in your models. Hope all goes well with the move!

DAGabriel: Always had a soft spot for Chaos Dwarfs. Nice painting! As for the color scheme... I'm not sure what individual color scheme you've decided on for the marauder ones, but I think as long as there is a color that kinda ties them in with the others, it should be fine.

EmperorNorton: Lovely painting on those flowing robes!

azhagmorglum: Loooove the squigs! The scales on the wyvern are really well-painted too.

juicytomatoes: What is this poor excuse of painting single models for the Tale? Get to painting!

Tekore: OMG... 31 glade guard? That's a lot of glade guard! The color scheme and basing for your army is very nice!

Great horned owl: Heya, how's things with ya? Hope you are holding up well. Great work on the musician conversion. I can't tell that you've made an arm swap. It just fits right in so well. And given that you are applying a second round of paint, they're brilliant!

Morkash: Can't tell that it's you first try at striped pants! Looks like you've done it all your life, mate. Love the pose he's got, and the diorama is just hilarious! It looks like it was an accident.

nagash66: Very nice, neat painting on the crossbow dwarfs. The thane looks really grand!

Doi: love the effect of the subtle conversion on the stonehorn. Looks like it's more focused now. The basing is very good!

perplexiti: Magnificent throng! Wow! That's just inspirational. I can see your lizard host growing in exactly the same way. Makes me want to persevere through painting the RnF models.

Purplebeard: Dwarfs AND Gnomes? Those are just some of the cutest models around. All the pony riders look great! The Chaos Sorceror Lord of Tzeentch on Disc has a rather hilarious pose, don't you think? It's like he's saying 'Now, boys and girls...'. Great job on the wing patterns. Always good to do research and then apply it.

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 9 (May painting and June WIP)

Oi people, comment time! ( I cannot provide any further WIP's, haven't found time to paint yet )

Red Skullz: Wow, you had a very productive month indeed! The Pump Wagon looks great and I like your painting, the trolls (and the Gobbo on the Orc's back ) came out very good!

Zark the Damned: You also got alot done! Over 6k points are an amazing feat! I love how Bronzino and his lads turned out, they are fantastic miniatures and you really did them justice. Those Pikemen are also lovely!

DAGabriel: Lovely evil stunties. The evolution over 20+ years is nice to see, especially how the Infernal Guard looks more like the older Chaos Dwarf. I'd say go for the individual look for the old ones, it would definitely fit the miniatures!

EmperorNorton: That's a great sorcerer right there! I love the colours you used for the robe, very fitting.

azhagmorglum: I can see the effort you put into the trolls but it was surely worth it, they look great! Your Squigs are amongst my favourites, no matter which colour they actually are. And the armyshot is simply fantastic, it really looks like a coherent force!

juicytomatoes: More halfling goodness! I like the Sorceress, she looks different than the rest of the lot, yet she fits into them quite well. Good job!

JackDaw: I'm eagerly awaiting your stuff, I'm sure it will look great!

Tekore: Congrats on getting the tough stuff done! Your force already looks like a nice army, keep it up!

colonel kane trine: I'm looking forward to the Empire stuff!

Great horned owl: Nice Elves, I hope Brother Owl is already back on his feet!

nagash66: Neat dwarfs, the Thane turned out great!

Doi: (Ogres) Hooray for Ogres! I love the Stonehorn, it looks way better looking straight forward...since it will be charging something most times... Also great use of the Giant weapon on the rider, I thought about using the Giant weapons for my Maneaters as well, you showed that it works really well!

Doi: (Dark Elves) Great hydra, the dark colour scheme is very fitting.

perplexiti: (Dwarfs) Wow, the grand armyshot is breathtaking! That's a serious army! The Hammerer conversions look nice as well!

perplexiti: (Lizardmen) Nice job to get 40 Saurus done in a month! They look very good and the army looks coherent and fits together.

Purplebeard: (Imperial Dwarfs) One has to love those old minis! I really like the hats of those figures and the pony cavalry is just adorable...

Purplebeard: (Chaos) Hehe, +1 Internet for painting a Rainbow Warrior! He turned out great, it's not easy to make a colourful figure look good, but you did. (I usually fail) The wings look ace!

Purplebeard: (Gnomes) Even more adorable cavalry!^^ Lovely old minis once more, you really do them justice.

iamjack42: Congratulations! I wish you luck for your child and your family!

    Comments on comments:

DAGabriel: Thanks! I'll be at home during the summer, so you might get better pictures for the last months of the tale...hopefully!

azhagmorglum: Thanks, hopefully I can provide you with finished miniatures next month...

sigur: Hey, servus! I wanted to give each Maneater a bit of a different theme, cool to hear it works out. And yep, I sometimes play in the Spielcafé!

Red Skullz: Thanks alot, I had great inspiration from Lew_b81! (check out his Maneater project log if you find the time)

juicytomatoes: Oh, hehe, I'm flattered! Didn't think about the idea of an accident, but now that you said it...I might add it in his background story.

So, that's it from me for this month, I guess. Might sneak in some time to paint a Maneater, but this exam period is exhausting. Not that you need more than a 3 or 4 hours of sleep anyways.
Look upon us and Despair, for we are the End, the Decay of all things, the horror of rot and the blessing of plague.
