I know, I've played it quite a lot. It had some serious balance issues. And I think the game could have been better if it hadn't needed to be compatible with Warhammer. The constraints of the stat system and the range used alone cause problems for a skirmish game I think. It's just not granular enough for my liking.

There would be less problems if you didn't use the campaign system and just stuck to the rules. But this moves away from the idea of an integrated gaming platform allowing a multiple gaming approach to WFB.

I didn't figure you were talking about me, but someone has to uphold the honour of Stirland!

I just retrieved my copy of Warhammer Skirmish from my bookcase and I must say it still looks highly usable...
Check out my Mordheim scenery! NOW! I mean... Please... Only if you want to of course...
Get your ale while it's still hot! And discover why Stirland should rule The Empire...

I liked the look of Mordhiem, but never played it myself. Would a newer version work with all the amies out there?

Bret knights are generally mounted, how would that work with Mordhiem?

Would Ogres not be considered over powered in this case? Three wound guys running around and my weapon skill 2 men@arms trying to deafeat them?

I just don't think it can be adapted to all the army books out there.

I have found that playing warbands or even just 500 point games hinders, or make it really hard for some armies.

When we redrafted the Border Patrol rules for the Schools League and WD, we found that we had to make quite a few restrictions but that it was perfectly justifiable. In an integrated system, each layer would need to be tight enough to balance, but allow cautioned expansion to allow interpretative freedom.

One of the best points to argue against is using special characters in small games. There a plenty of circumstances where Teclis and a few retainers might pop out for a few days and they might probably go hunting every other day. The key is designing a scenario that allows a challenge and the balance.

I think a new Mordheim that used 8th ed as the base for its rules (just like original mordheim used 5.5 as its own base) would be a great book. They could easily do 30ish pages of rules, 10 pages of how does your specific army work in this game and 5 pages of campaign rules, then put in 50 or so pages of painted minis. Seems like a no brainer to me.

It could easily be a cross between warhammer skirmish and Mordheim. Your "armies" call them gangs, mercenaries, retinues or whatever you like, could compose of up to one hero, x champions, y standard troops, and z inf. or cav models out of special. The book practically writes itself, and it has the benefit of being a great way for people to collect a small amount of models from other armies.
