Okay for real: will you be purchasing finecast regiments?

    Technical issues aside...

For those not in the know GW is releasing a new wave of finecast models next month. Unlike previous releases, which only remade characters, warmachines, and monsters in finecast, this will be the first wave containing unit boxes (for a complete list of next month's releases, please see this thread). The new price point for 5-man boxes of finecast models is 67% higher than they were in metal (in BP this means they will be 20 pounds 50, and in USD they should be around $40.00. If anyone has exact figures in US dollars please let me know so I can add it to this post).

Please take a moment to answer the poll above. Thanks!

    PLEASE NOTE
I am asking if you are likely or unlikely to purchase the product at the new price point. Please answer the question based on whether or not you would pay the new price, not whether or not you would be willing to pay it at a discount, off of EBay, etc.

No. For the way WHFB is played, that's not an acceptable price (even discounted) for that quantity of ranked models.

Re: Okay for real: will you be purchasing finecast regiments?

I can see me buying the Lizardman Chakax Eternity Warden, my metal one always breaks and then chips. But I guess that's not the question.

If this was for an army I play, like dwarfs, and I had the option to get finecast hammerers and ironbreakers I would be all over it. Currently my hammerers chip like it's going out of style.

If it was 67% more expensive I would not however.

If this would be for orcs, my main army, and it was a good unit that I didn't have, then I would buy it regardless.

    Some times money wins games.

Leaving technical considerations aside? No. But I wasn't buying the metal ones either, anything not plastic I buy off Ebay now. For infantry-sized minis, the advantages of finecast are irrelevant compared to metal anyway, so I'd rather have old metal for cheaper.

Fincast? I promised I wouldn't buy any until they sorted out the casting issues....... so, no, and no characters either.

Re: Okay for real: will you be purchasing finecast regiments?

Under the assumption that this will remain a civilised WHF-related discussion, I'll let this live. If it turns into a Finecast bash-fest, it'll be purged from orbit - the only way to be sure.

    [/modmode]

As for the poll: "hell no", if that was an option. I could accept Finecast models for characters, monsters and even warmachines. But I see no reason to release whole regiments in a material made for super-details and whatnot. For me it only makes the models more expensive. As I said, I could live with that for single models, but on a regimental scale I can not and will not afford it.

If certain regiments I would like to field are transferred to Finecast, I would simply refuse to buy them - or look for suitable alternatives.

Re: Okay for real: will you be purchasing finecast regiments?

Would I get resin units or similar? Yes, I want some Avatars of War dwarfs. But those will come in about quadruple numbers (at least triple) for the same money and without bubbles, well at least with less. No frame with a crazy amount of vents to get in the way of detail and so on.
So I voted very unlikely but meant hell no!

On the other hand with their return policy you could get lucky and get huge units blessed by Nurgle cheaper. Still a hell no, sorry.

Thanks, Darnok. I'm confident my fellow Warseerites will join me in ensuring the conversion is kept to whether or not they intend to buy whole regiments in finecast, not debating the merits of the material.

Re: Okay for real: will you be purchasing finecast regiments?

i would definitely not pay that amount of money for a box of 5 models and definitely not 6 of those boxes to make a 30 model unit, because its prohibitively expensive.

in my opinion all regiments must eventually be plastic.

finecast needs to be kept to just characters/monsters etc [what it has been up to now].

however, i believe this is just a stop gap, one off, they are doing for the dark elves stuff, because they havent got the plastic witch elves/executioners/blackguard ready yet or even scheduled for release etc. but the kits still are selling quite well. [although i doubt they will at the new price point]

If it was a low model count unit, like Wraith for exemple, were you need between 3-5 models, then yes I could buy them. But a regular infantry that would need at least 20 models to start to be usefull, I'd have to go with the popular "hell no".
Vampire Counts Army : At least 4000pts built, much more waiting for some love!
Tomb King Army : About 6000 pts of troops, all that is left is painting!

Re: Okay for real: will you be purchasing finecast regiments?

Two reasons I won't buy them.

    1. As prices approach £5 per 20mm infantry model, that is just too much
    2. No mountain of extra bits like you'de get with a multi-part plastic kit

I'm happy to pay a high price for a kit with a tonne of extra bits, I'm not happy to pay the same price for single pose mini's.

No chance. Even if I were ok with GW's resins (and I won't bitch here), the prices are just too high for me.

Hey I love my GW games, I love the GW brand, and for the most part (95%) I am pro-GW.

But with such a massive prive increase....I can't! I would learn to play with other units that are more cash accessible - and that's that - I have enough of a time suggesting the current prices are ok to my wife - anything higher will destroy the myth!

I stopped buying Finecast a while ago. If GW is going all FC that will be enough to push me away for good.

ps That would be hell no.

Re: Okay for real: will you be purchasing finecast regiments?

in short, no. At the moment my 40k and Fantasy armies are pretty much complete. I do occasionally buy the odd GW figure to fill out my lists, but it's not something I want to do.

Being in Australia and paying ripoff prices compared to the Northern Hemisphere, there's no way I'd start a new GW army. It's 2nd hand or not at all. Gives me an excuse to use my old stuff that's laying around anyway.
