Thread: What would you change about your army book?

Re: What would you change about your army book?

Enigmatik1 covered all of my problems with my TK army.
For the Empire (my other main WFB army), I'd like to see options for a dedicated casting platform (like the Luminark) for the rest of the standard magic lores. Option for all knights to take halberds (I already converted a unit of knights that I field as the "Order of the Dragon" with dragon-headed halberds). I'd also like the halberdiers to be easier to rank up but that's models, not the book.
I am old enough to remember when White Dwarf reviewed books and RPGs.

TKs: EBtS units can charge a unit on a "hit" on the scatter dice, otherwise scatter as normal

    Beastmen:
    - Light Armor option for Gors.
    - Halberd, HW & Shield options for Bestigors.
    - Heavy Armor option for Minotaurs and Centigors.
    - Return of Dragon Ogres or another combined from of ogre beast, a Dragonbull perhaps?
    - Basic Centigor Hero
    - Basic Dragonbull Lord
    - Gifts either duplication restriction removed or pricing separated from Magic Item list.
    - Price reduction of the Monsters
    - - OR - -
    - Updated defenses to account for their price.
    - - Ghorgon and Giant gain an AS option
    - - Ghorgon gains normal KB on all attacks which can give a Regen bonus, trade for single 4+ HKB and Wound Return.
    - - Cygor gains a simple Ward Save and either it or Magic Resistance improved by defeating Wizards.
    - - Jabberslythe has Regen which has an increase when the Tongue removes a model.

    Orcs & Goblins

    1) Snotlings need a 10 point decrease to be even worth considering taking in a list
    2) Giant Spider mount option for shamans so we can have full spider rider armies
    3) Giagantic Spider mount should have Vangaurd so the awesome hero model (now thankfully in finecast) can join spider rider units from the word go!
    4) Orc Boyz should have come standard with shield, that way just a point increase for taking spears
    5) Black Orc characters getting a chariot mount option
    6) Goblin characters with chariots can join units of goblin chariots so long as there are two or more normal wolf chariots

Re: What would you change about your army book?

    Ogre Kingdoms:
Allow Tyrant/Bruiser to have a Mournfang as a mount option.
Give Ogres unique rules for Great Weapons: Clearly an Ogre wielding a sword heavier than you are is going to hurt more than a man wielding a greatsword. Great weapons on Ogres should therefore give more than +2 strength. Maybe ignore armour saves.

    Empire/Dwarfs/Ogres
CANNONS ARE NOT SNIPER MISSILES. The cannon should fire a scattering template, this is far more in line with how a cannon actually worked. As they are they limit the game so much; I play a guy who regularly takes 3-4 cannons, their ability to snipe and do D6 wounds is such a pain in the ****. It basically renders all these nice new monsters and monstrous cavalry GW are spamming out useless in game.

    Tomb Kings:
Allow more Lores of Magic for priests, they've been knocking around for thousands of years!
Hierophant gains +1 to cast and dispel. It isn't as if our army is at all reliant on magic. Maybe also give the Hierophant a couple of innate power dice, like warpstone tokens or magic mushrooms.
Allow Tomb Kings to ride Necroserpents.
Presence of the Tomb King in a unit adds +1 to combat res to decrease crumbling.

Re: What would you change about your army book?

    Wood Elves:

Points drop on the special (and some rare) choices- mostly Treekin down by 10pts- but Glade Guard and Dryads to stay exactly how they are currently are, they work just fine and are some of the few units in the game to be completely fairly costed IMO.

Glade Guard Longbows becomes an army-wide special rule, similar to Choppas.

BSB brought in line with the post-6th edition books.

Please sweet Jesus on a trampoline, no Stag Riders . I really dislike the direction the game is going at the moment, and more monstrous cavalry will just make it worse.

Eternal Guard weapons to grant +1S

More magic options- Light magic would make Treekin or S4 Eternal Guard very competitive, but is maybe not that fluffy. Both Shadow and Death would fit the fluff, and Death would be really nice (it would give WE a relatively viable answer to Ogres, as well as a good way of getting characters out of units) but I'd be very happy not to see Shadow get propagated throughout the game.

Complete rewrite of Lore of Athel Loren, with Tree-Singing kept as the signature spell to work in largely the same way, but changed to allow you to move forests onto enemy units- this would help make Dryads and Treekin better by giving you a chance to negate the enemy's Steadfast without hoping they do something stupid like run into a forest.

As evidenced by their higher than normal strength.

Re: What would you change about your army book?

    Adding some more:

    Tomb Kings:
    1. Ushabti Chariots (Rare)
    2.Tomb Guard Chariots (Special)
    3. Some real magic Items, only one or two are worth even looking at.
    4. EBTS to be able to charge the turn it come out again
    5. Make the Lore attribute D3+2
    6. Necrosphinx to actually do its job and kill monsters (so far it hasn't killed one, they kill him forst with Ini 1). Give him heroic KB on all attacks but lose ability to strike at str10
    7. Sphinx's gain a 3+ Save, but raise cost by around 10-15pts.
    8. If King or Prince is mounted on a Warshinx, give his MWBD a 6" Bubble.
    9. Heiratic Jar please come back.
    10. Give TK more reliable magic and get rid of that 6th spell, just plain worthless. Maybe field wide augment.
    11. Bring in Sehesemeht (I know I spelled that wrong.
    12. Shoot Cruddace in the foot.

    Warriors of Chaos:
    1. Bring Back Valnir the Reaper
    2. MoK give DD again, but make it only count for units 5 man (Knights) 10 man (warrior) and 20 man (marauders) and above and only if there isn't a Wizard in the army.
    3. Add in Blood priests for Khorne that are kinda like Warrior Priests.
    4. God Items back in. forget this one dude with the Axe of Khorne, Pendant of Slaanesh, and the Necrotic Phalantery.
    5. Characters can only join units of the same mark or unmarked.

    Dwarfs:
    1. I want my Slayer army to be playable and not broken.
    Civilian of Khemri since 2005

    High Elves
That stupid Lion Chariot goes the way of the Dodo

So you should definitely be allowed to write the next High Elf book then! It's a toughness 4 chariot with a 4+ save. I fail to understand the hate...

    Bretonnians:

The book needs a total rewrite.. Maybe drop the arthurian theme and go medieval fantasy. With alchemists instead of damsals.

Or make it like Warriors of Chaos in that instead of Daemon hood, the Bret knights become some sort of archangel (sp?) could justify a monstous cav, and show how rare they.

Re: What would you change about your army book?

    Dwarfs -

    1) Monstrous infantry, ideally in the form of ancestor golems.

    2) Some form of fast moving "cavalry" - either cheaper Gyrocopters in units of 3, Slayers on bears, or something.

    3) A truly elite CC unit. Give hammerers an additional attack, or Ironbreakers.

    4) Some means by which to tilt the scales magically, probably through a more reliable Anvil of Doom. I don't need a magic phase, but some way to give out minor buffs to units that's more reliable than your average Goblin Spear Chukka would be nice.

    5) Killy Lord or Hero choice that's worthwhile.

    6) Worthwhile slayers.

Necrotect and other royals can take constructs as mounts!!!

Lich priest can ride chariots or warsphinx

    characters can be healed

constructs heal more than one wound per phase

Re: What would you change about your army book?

I'd like to add on something for Tomb Kings.

Characters on chariots follow the rules as Monstrous Beasts instead of Monsters.

Make this a TK specific rule so that our flimsy T4 chariots wont be swiped away underneath our lords for easy CR

Alternatively, make it so that our kings can commandeer a rank and file chariot when his chariot is destroyed.

A fix for Steadfast/Unstable would also be highly desirable

Re: What would you change about your army book?

I would like them to make Skaven Plague Censer Bearers Unbreakable. The unit used to be one of the nastiest in the Skaven army in 4th edition, now they're not worth the points. They could even increase the pts cost a little bit. But I don't think they really need to. They were hit by the nerf bat really hard, and just making them unbreakable woun't make them OP.

Also make Skavenslaves not count to the min amount of pts needed for core troops. This would help get rid of the giant slave units everyone complains about I think.

    - probably by virtue of ditching/reworking Eye of he Gods/warshrine for something passive ala hurricanum. Chosen possibly do act like one for themselves/small area around them.
    - Cheaper fighty characters, or more effective ones (ignore challenges issued/accepted by unit champions?)
    - Return of Tzeentch warrior-mages, mages with MoT gain access to all rulebook lores, Lore of Tzeentch is strictly for the warrior-mages and very self-buffing. Rerolls, stat buffs, a few offensive ones (mostly something like flickering fire and a more beefy version, more geared towards hard target removal than unit removal)

    Bretonnia:
-Dismounted Knights: poleaxes, the works Because A- it would look cool and B- one unit does not completely change the army, it just gives you options.
-WS3 'sergeants'. ie. the difference between peasant levy and veteran/professional soldiers.
Personally I'd just like Men at Arms bumped up to ws3 and have a unit of actual peasants armed with pitchforks, pointy sticks or whatever added as the fodder, besides what would be more grim dark then men women and children wearing rags slaughtered while your Knights look on impassively.

Re: What would you change about your army book?

A total re-working for Empire State Troops.

    Put them all in one statline. They come with their current statline (you know, all 3s) and hand weapon, no armour, 3pts. Then you give them a long list of upgrades;
    - Spear +1pt, Additional Hand Weapon +1pt or Halberd +2pts
    - Shield +1pt
    - Bow +2pts, Crossbow +3pts or Handgun +3pts
    - Light Armour +1pt or Heavy Armour +2pts. If wearing Heavy Armour = count as Special / 0-1 per GotE / whatever.
    - 'Veterans' +1 WS and I +2pts

With that, you can make your own infantry, want cheap fodder? Give them a Shield and send them off. Want highwaymen/brigands? Give them an AHW and Bow. Want expensive elite mercenary guard? Give them Halberds, Crossbows, Heavy Armour and 'Veterans'. Want to replicate the Nuln Ironsides? Heavy Armour + Handguns.

I'd do the same for Pistolier/Outriders too. Options for Spears, Brace of Pistols, Light/Heavy Armour, Barding, Repeater Handguns so they can be anything from border horsemen to medium missile cavalry.

Seeing as these are nearly all available right now, just as several different unit entries, it also saves space while not opening itself to being broken - those 'Elite mercenary guard' cost 13pts per model for what are still at their most basic, State Troopers.
    _____________

Perfectly happy with Vampire Counts as is, an FAQ would be dandy though.

And I hope Skaven don't get updated too soon. I need a Power army on the odd occasion
Dark Lancers Renegade Astartes Chapter, Chaos Space Marines - 7,000pts
The Undead Scourge, Vampire Counts - 2,500pts [log]
Averland State Army, Empire - 3,000pts [log]

Still need one more Zombie Dragon/Terrorgheist rider (the Blood Dragon, not Ghoul King)? PM me for much £££s!
Warhammer 40k or Fantasy player in North Wales? PM me!
