Ok , so I 'd rather not buy white dwarf , how do I get the rules ? I'd assume that GW would put them on their website next month but I doubt they will.

Apparently, in the dying days of 2011, I started a blog-thingy to encourage me to do more hobby stuff.
Sometimes a post is so rotten I have to respond like dr.Cox -- My Dwarven painting log -- My Lizardmen painting log -- My Scurrying Skaven painting log -- My nurgle beastmen painting log --My Tau cadre painting log -- My knights of the white wolf -- My Ork painting log
---> Newest: 23-5-2013; Finished Riptide, broadsides and pathfinders ---> New: 13-5-2013; Lizardmen, tournament pictures, Won best painted army!
Surely after this month is up, they'll place the rules online. They won't do it straight away, because they want you to buy the WD issue...
Young lady, I am an expert on humans. Now pick a mouth, open it and say "brglgrglgrrr"!
The sisters of battle codex was published months ago in white dwarf and I can't find it on the website. Important core rules shouldn't be solely published in a monthly magazine. What is someone who wants to start Sisters of Battle supposed to do now?
At the original poster: rules for the ork flier are here ( http://www.the-waaagh.com/forums/?showtopic=51391&st=40) with points costs listed in terms of ard boyz.

The following words and phrases should have no place in a wargame: Top Tier; [National/International] Meta; Spam (with the negative connotations); Yeah but when was the last time you saw those?
@chivs: Good point. I retract my earlier statement.

If rumours in the GW go digital thread are correct then the Sisters Codex will be released on iPad sometime this year.
Of course, this is of no use if you don't have an iPad (so please don't shoot the messenger).
Some Latin inspiration: Nec Aspera Terrant; Hoc Locus Stercus Est
And some memorable quotes: 'Never forget that the entire point of this game is shooting girly elves.' (Dr Potamus); 'Hooray, it's another sunny day on WhineSeer.' (Darnok); 'this might shock you, but even this hobby is filled with idiots...'(Botjer)
Hang on, A while back we were all moaning because WD was a waste of paper and didn't contain any updates or important stuff. Now we're complaining because the rules aren't free for us and we have to buy the magazine?
GW really can't win can they
FashaTheDog: I only own two broadsides and while they can usually never fail a save, they can also be counted upon to never kill anything more intimidating than a guardsman.A tournament player: the glass is half empty
A narrative player: the glass is half full
An eldar player: why isn't my glass rending?
Not as long as they keep taking the path of most resistance. The good White Dwarves had a lot of rules content, in Index Astartes, Chapter Approved and for other games (the original rules for both Mordheim and Battlefleet Gothic were released in White Dwarf - in the same issue, IIRC), but they also released compendiums allowing you to keep up to date, put content on the website for free, and so on. Making rules that are essential to a subset of existing players (you can't play Sisters of Battle without a codex) available only in a certain back issue or on a specific multi-hundred dollar reader is something else entirely.
You buy white dwarf. They sell stuff. If you want it, you buy it. That's the deal.
Personally I'd like it if they gave me everything free. Obviously, you'd still have to pay. I want them to stay in profit so I can have more free stuff next month.
I have a goblin hewer. There are no current rules. So, I can a) make up my own b) buy an old army book c) lift a pirated copy off the interwebz. Hello ebay....
Gooseberry yoghurt is just .... wrong
I don't get your argument. You're saying they should give away the best rules free? Or all rules?
I have a lot of complaints about WD at the moment which is slipping backwards lately, but complaining they don't give you core rules for free is inane.
@OP: suck it up and buy the damned magazine, it costs the same as a pint of beer, it's not exactly breaking the bank.
Fair enough, but then pubishing anything on the internet assumes a certain level of hardware - a PC costs $400, what difference does it make to publish it on the most popular tablet format? Don't get me wrong, I'd rather it was on Android as I have an ASUS transformer, but I can understand why it's on iPad first.
We? All? Some certainly. Many maybe. Majority? Who can say.
I personally don't believe that White Dwarf should contain Core rules: changes to the game, codices or stats for individual units. Actually, I'll amend that. I personally don't believe that White Dwarf should be the sole source of Core rules.
The magazine should not be compulsory. It should never be necessary to purchase it to play with either a single unit or an army. It gets worse when the rules are spread over two issues.
This month's White Dwarf contained rules for 4 new units. Someone who joins the hobby next month has lost their opportunity. Can you imagine the staffers in store having to explain to a customer or parent that to use that brand new Ork Bomma you've just paid £30 for, you'll have to search eBay for a previous edition of White Dwarf to be able to use it? Even telling them they'll have to pay extra for an ipad exclusive file that contains the rule seems unpalatable to me.
These rules should be available for free on their website. I've already bought my rulebook and codex - that should be all I need to field any unit in my army. Publish them in White Dwarf as well, maybe even in advance, but put them up online too, and in a prompt manner.
If one entry of rules is the sole reason to buy a hobby magazine, then it's in trouble. See the various White Dwarf threads about how this could be improved. But if the rules are available online why would anyone buy the magazine?
Sisters of Battle players, if they wanted to stay in the game, are forced to pay £9 for a handful of pages about how to play their army. Many of which will already have a full paperback codex they've already paid for. £9 is about half the cost of a full codex. From memory, I don't think they got half a codex worth of material. While opinions may vary, I don't think I've actually heard a positive one expressed about the Sisters rules anyway. On the Waaagh website, opinion is largely divided on whether the new aircraft are worth taking - something that will only be revealed in 6th ed.Well why shouldn't players have to pay for Core Rules? They shouldn't be free!
We're not talking about a full hardcover rulebook here being free - we're talking about 10 pages at most.
Non compulsory rules are fine, and this should be the province of White Dwarf. Fun scenarios like this months Scramble scenario, the Deathworld missions, or the Fantasy Civil war rules. This is the sort of thing that one player can bring along and say 'Hey, do you fancy using this mission/this optional rule that was in White Dwarf?' You can then discuss it, and agree or disagree.
Anecdote:
On 40k's 25th anniversary I took part in a mashed together multiplayer Kill Team game in a GW store. One of the four players was using Codex: Witch Hunters. I'd completely forgotten that there'd been a White Dwarf article for Sisters of Battle anyway, and noone raised an eye at using an 'Out of date' codex. Halfway through the game the player wanted to use his Vindicare assassin. I pointed out that the Vindicare could fire into close combat, and other players called foul at this. The staffer was called, and said that in Codex: Grey Knights the Vindicare assassin has changed and couldn't be used that way. I pointed out that we weren't using Grey Knights, but Witch Hunters (There are plenty of examples of Space Marine codices having the same equipment work different ways in different books). It was then the staffer said that Witch Hunters was out of date - we should be using Codex: Sisters of Battle.
Fair Enough. But when the young player said he missed those issues of White Dwarf and so couldn't use that codex, there was no suggestion of what he should do. There was no store copy produced that he could use, or even look through. While we did continue the game anyway, in essence a young player had been told that his rules were out of date, and then left to stand there. How is this acceptable?
