Thread: Digital codex releases [CLOSED]

    Re: Digital codex releases

i think in the video i saw some of the pop ups for wargear options that were origonaly "see warhammer 40k rule book" but had these rules included such as the drednaught close combat weapons. are these acctualy included in the software so that nothing is "see 40k rulebook"? would these then be updated with the new rule book making the codex a fully stand alown book, and by that i mean not being promted to refure to special rules that are in the main book like stubbon, lightning claws and force weapons, but now discribed in the digital dex. i can see why they would not reprint them in a paper bound book for space issues but that doesent matter for the new e-dex. am i making sense? cos that might be worth buying. if only i had an i pad.

Can't speak for the full version, but the sample version at least defines every rule by itself (and it seems to have the full glossary, duplicate entries and all). I have not seen a single "See Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook" reference.

A quick question to those in the know:

Are there any plans to incorporate FAQs into the digital codices? I understand that errata changes might be applied to the codex text itself, but I'm talking about the questions-and-answers section of FAQ documents. I'm thinking some kind of button on each page that you can tap that loads any FAQ entries relevant to that page - are there plans for anything like that? Or even just as an addon at the end of the document; that works, too.

Just a quick correction to my last post, apparently there are a few references to the rulebook (I'm yet to encounter any, but I've read reviews that have mentioned them). The vast majority of rule pop-ups, though, have the full rule description.

As for "e-dex", I've started using "digidex" personally

From the aspect of who has access to what codex - everybody for the print version, Apple users only for the digital version - I can't see changes to the "original" codex apart from additions you could get elsewhere. Take the Stormtalon as an example: you could as well play witht the book and the current WD. But if the digital version gets some changes not available in other media, it would make it a very different product, available to only a few. I can't see that happen.

All the digital codox versions do seems to be a summary of all available FAQs and WD content into an electronical format.

I'd like to remind you all that according to copyright law you are allowed to make copies of copyright protected materials you have bought for private use. It is the sharing of these copies that are illegal.

Thus if you own a codex just scan it instead of buying it digitally, you've already paid for it so you're not breaking the law.

And I think an Android port would not be that easy. It looks like as if GW has used the iBooks Author Software from Apple which they released with their textbook initiative. I do not know if there is an easy way to convert the format but I assume there is not.

Yes, the iBookstore supports updates for books. That does not necessarily means that GW will do updates, though. As far as I know, updates/corrections cannot be charged for.

Think this one is way off topic and the main topic has been covered, if you wish to discuss format variations/where to buy/copyright these are all outside the remit of this N&R thread please take to somewhere more appropriate.
