Are you spending less on Warhammer?

Between the Games Workshop Pricing feedback thread, Finecast feedback thread, and many other pricing response threads I've seen a lot of people claim that they are spending less money on Warhammer as a result of price increases. Please take a moment to answer the poll, above.

NOTE: Please keep all discussion about prices, finecast, and Games Workshop to their respective feedback threads in GW General. I'd like this discussion to be about how much more or less money you're spending on Warhammer, what you're spending it on instead, etc.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

GW prices does not deter me from purchasing what I want. With that said, however, I also do not purchase direct either. So far this year, I've only spent about $1000 on GW models with last year's totalling around $2000. So, unless my buying habbits slow down, I will more than likely equal or surpass last years spending by the end of the year.

Way, way less. Most of that money has been going to Privateer Press and Corvus Belli.

I don't think it is mainly due to the price increase -I can really handle the few Euros it would cost me per month-. However, it in combination with the perceived fact (by me) that the other manufacturers offer a better price/fun ratio ie. 'bang for your buck' means that I jumped ship about completely.

The price hikes simply make that decision easier. When I can get a full Warmachine army and an Infinity army for the price of one 2500 pts fantasy army...

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

Pricing has definitely made me think before being. No more impulse buying.
Also, I live about an hour from from a GW store, so I usually buy from them online. When they had free shipping in Canada on anything over $40 I was basically buying something from them at least once a month. Now that it's $75+ for free shipping, it just edges past what I want to spend on the hobby per month. As a result, I haven't ordered anything from them in quite a while.

Seeing the supposed new pricing that's going to take effect, I imagine it'll be even longer before I buy much else from them (I'll probably just stick with using my custom sized tokens to fill out my ranks when I don't have enough models for a unit. Been doing it for years when playing with friends, and keeps the costs to a minimum)

I like games involving armies, not skirmish, so GW is the best bet right now. However I own enough that I don't need to buy much.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

8th has gotten me back into Warhammer and with some campaigns motivating me ive bought/painted more Warhammer in the last year than I had in the 5 before it put together. Some of that is going to Mantic who have much more reasonably priced fodder but the characters and centrepiece models from GW remain top flight.

I wait for the Savage Boss to be released, will pick it up and then hit the brake. I'll finish painting my Ogre army before purchasing anything GW related.

In the meanwhile I hope I can sell some WoC stuff and with the money from that I'll invest in Mantic's Kickstarter project. I like their Goblins and there's a pretty good deal with them in there. Same for Orcs, not sure which one I'll pick in the end.

After painting the Ogres? One purchase from Wayland if need arises, then start painting finish assembling and then painting my O&G army...which should keep me busy for several years...

75%+ less than last year. Partly motivated by GWs prices and partly because I already have most of the models I want in my army already, but I won't be filling the gaps in a hurry.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

    I voted 75% less.

I spent a lot in 2010 and '11 'cause I'd dropped out of the hobby for 4-5 years beforehand - was a collector and got bored. Got back into it and started gaming. Last year, I got really into updating my empire army and high elves for 8th, so must have spent a couple of hundred over the summer. Then the Dark Eldar megaforce was too good an offer (from DarkSphere) to turn down. Add to that Dreadfleet, a ton of cheap bits from ebay, missing miniatures for my Mordheim gang and a Black Dragon and for me, it was an expensive year. So, last year - £500 (a bit less I think)

This year I've bought... 3 paints, a witch-hunter, a box of Black Knights, A wood elf bsb, A wood elf highborn, a mordheim zealot and Isabella von Carstein So roughly, £50.

This isn't due to the price rises, or for any moral reasons - I've settled into 8th nicely - and dug out my wood elves again (who were near totally ready) so haven't felt the need to spend. Enjoyed playing them so much I haven't bothered getting the new books for my other armies. Been tempted by the Ogres and some stuff for my Vamps but can't afford them this year - since I'm a student again. And my studies have meant I haven't the time to paint or game that I did last year - so I've avoided getting new stuff until I work my way through some of the backlog.

Non-mini moneywise - I've spent most of it on transport, a new guitar (which was quite cheap and brilliant - j mascis jazzmaster) and a trip to Russia soon. All of which is preferable to miniatures.

I'm likely to buy the 6th ed starter (and get back in 40k in the process), a ravager, a razorwing and some eagles and treekin later in the year though - so that should add £130-50 to the total. Shall pass on the Hobbit entirely.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

I had to vote 100%+ more, because last year I was not purchasing anything due to taking a couple of years off the hobby to focus on other things. The reason I stopped was mainly due to the prices going up (It was £12 for a box of troops when I started, now it is over double that and you get less models). However what brought me back was 8th edition and the introduction of the finecast range (I hate metal models) and the new paint range (all my old ones had dried up anyway...) For whatever reason I just felt it was time to start back off again, so I am in the process of buying a large fantasy army and will be buying a large 40k army too. So this year, a lot more than last year...

I spend less - less each year. Unlike some others though, my decrease in spending has less to do with GW pricing and more to do with growing up. Compared to other folk, my money has been going to my home, increased bill costs, my wife and the children I've had in the last 4 years instead of other hobbies. Judging by everyone else's responses it seems I'm the only one who is experiencing price increases in these areas.
The saddest thing is a little girl who is told by her own mother and father that she will never be pretty. And then they open the front door, and on the porch is a little white suitcase, with all of her things in it.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

I was about to start Warhammer, I've bought some paints thanks to the feedback I'd gotten here at Warseer. Very helpful forum!

Having said that, this place has kinda put me off of the idea of Warhammer all together, the negativity toward Games Workshop and Warhammer in general is just overwhelming, nobody seems to have any fun with the games systems and everyone seems to regret starting the hobby in one way or another, or atleast, this is how I read into the vast majority of posts on here.

Having said that I'm having some fun with my first ever miniatures which are a set of Infinity sci-fi troopers, might have a look at Freebooter's fate next.

I worked out once that as a teenager I put around £4000 into Games Workshop. These days I work a full time job so I have more money, but there's no way I'd do that now so I think you're right. Most of my money goes onto running my car, paying the electric bills, feeding my animals etc. If GW was cheaper these days I'd probably still spend the same amount of money as I do now, which isn't a lot, but I'd just have more to show for it.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

Haven't spent much money at GW proper in recent years. I buy a lot of the books and whatever catches my attention. Bought a decent chunk of discount Khemri last year (~$200), and this year I'm looking at buying a similar amount of Fantasy Empire and a Storm Talon (I have the compulsive need to convert it until it looks decent... I can't stop thinking about it!).

As I always say on these things, I spend more on Forgeworld than anything else. Their books kick righteous ass, even if they aren't totally error-proof or fully playtested all the time. The books are as much eye candy as the minis

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

I want to start by saying GW can run it's business whatever way it feels fit. I have ample spare cash to buy plastic, but with the events of the last year(s) Finecast, price hike, poor-quality whitedwarfs I see my enthusiasm outright deflated.

I used to spend 25$ a week on GW, when a Tac-squads were 25$ each. Now, I rarely pick up a box a month at roughly 35$.

I can't really explain it, I have more expendable income that ever before and GW is getting a much smaller share of it.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

I can't make up my mind in this poll. Yes I'm buying less, the last three months I've not bought anything (new) from GW. It's not primarily because of the prices; I'm just having a reality check and I realise I'm sitting on models to last me pretty much a lifetime at the rate I'm modelling&painting right now. Will this change with GW's prices going up? Probably not. Would it have changed if GW's prices had remained constant? Probably not, but then I wouldn't have counted on that anyway.

Just possibly the rumoured WoC releases might make me buy a kit or two, regardless of price. But it's not 'hurr hurr, I MIGHT buy a kit or two, wink wink, hurr hurr'. Just: if it's really good, I might break the habit of not buying (new) GW stuff.

I voted "100% less". I did, I guess, buy one box of Savage Orcs at 40% off clearance. But that's the only WFB purchase I've made in about a year and a half. Most of it's due to 2 factors:

    1) I really just do not like 8th Ed;

    2) Prices have become unreasonable.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

I voted 100% less, my money goes to BattleTech stuff again after 17 years of GW games. I mostly blame GW's inability to give me an errata for my WFB army, having 12.000 points of DoW sitting around massively put me off, I'm so not going to buy another faction.
That said, I bought a couple used Voland's Venators a few days ago because I always wanted a block of the real ones instead of conversions, and that was my first WFB purchase since about September 2010.

Your poll doesn't make much sense. If there's no goblin release during a year, I'm obviously going to spend less than during a year when they released, say, the arachnarok
