I'm banking on the fact that voters will understand the intent of the poll, which is to identify whether or not buying habits have changed as a result of price increases. The only way I could do this in a quantitative manner was to compare spending from one year to another.

Way less, I currently only play Brets and have a huge army already... plus so many lovely historicals out there for CHEAP.

I´m spending a lot more on WHF than last year but not a single € goes to Games Workshop.

The poll should be labelled appropriate.

I´ve voted 75% less. Basically I only buy stuff that I need to finish my ongoing GW projects, which I started in the past and have already invested too much time and energy to simply give up. I´ve abandoned the idea of getting into 40k and instead drifted to FoW, Infinity and naval historical games for new shiny minis and themes.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

I'm spending 100% less, but to be fair I was taking a holiday from buying new stuff in any case. Like others I've realised I have far too many unpainted models so I'm concentrating on getting what I've got finished...

However, the prices are an issue. I doubt I'll go back to my pattern of buying new armies as I did before, especially for WFB with its high model count, the costs of starting an entirely new army are prohibitive. The most I can see me spending on GW is to add stuff to armies I happen to already have a lot of models for to get them table ready.

I have not voted yet. I just bought a sizable Lizardmen force (2 batallions, a stegadon, some characters), but I can't see myself spending anything near that ever again. It was done pre-pricerise, and I can't see me ever starting a new army again. But that's nothing to do with my spednign a year ago, where I also spent a good amount of money for another army (Ogres).

For the sake of my own sanity I don't really keep track of my purchases in a way that would allow me to give a truly exact answer to this.
What I can say, though, is that my spending on new releases and things that are not second hand has gone down quite a bit (I estimated 50%).

And as Darnok notes, the chance of me starting a new army is very slim (but then there aren't all that many armies left that I could start).

A lot less, I've switched to buying secondhand models to save money. Even in doing that I'm spending less.

That's exactly what I did recently to restart my Lizardmen (2 batallions, a stegadon, a carnosaur rider and plastic saurus hero) - I will only do the same to get my Tau army on the go again. Gone are the days of running multiple armies within gaming systems for me.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

I've bought less because I have established armies now and just buy the models I want now. I also have sold on many of my painted armies/ models as I'm not gamning with them and to be honest at one point I had 5 40K armies and 3 Fantasy armies and thought I can't play with them all the time so I sold the ones I didn't use much and kept the ones Liked/ suited.

Starting a new army-and it is crawling to start beyond 20 models. Even on eBay I find prices beyond reason compared to 5-8 years ago.
I suppose as the old metal become finecash ( at least it is easier to glue than metal ) metal models will be cheaper.

Dunno 40+ bucks for 10 models (tomb guard, great swords, ect)??
At least stormvermin are 40 for 20-but Skaven are one of GWs favored pets.

I think I spend less and less each year, last year I maybe spent £200? this years I have spent about £90 this years in GW, I can't see me buy a whole lot more this years, maybe a few things off the trading forums, ebay and other model companies, that's about it. I really want to make a Knights panter army, its just far to expensive to do the greatsword conversions now

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

I have a dedicated GW budget of approx $100 a month, no more, no less. Also my favorite part of the hobby tends to be army building, so I always have something to buy (I have 4 40K armies and 4 Fantasy armies, with 2 more Fantasy armies not done yet). So I spend the same amount, but a price hike just means I buy less (FREX the latest price hike means I forgo 2 Eldar jetbikes this year...).

I also tend to spend a bit of money on other things too (a 15mm historical ancient army can often be had for less than $100, so that is my "cheap" minis purchase). But one thing I noticed is that everything is getting more expensive: my other hobby is 1/35 armor modeling. I was looking at kits today (dreaming about my next project, of course), and saw Dragon is selling a Panzer IIIJ "Vorpanzer" for $81! Yes, the Dragon kit has orders-of-magnitude more parts, at far better quality. Still, the price was shocking for a plastic kit nonetheless, as I still remember a kit for $40 was expensive not so long ago...

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

Urgh, a thread that makes me examine my warhammer spending. Finding it hard to justify...

I'm spending less, thankfully, and mostly on second-hand stuff. So far I've spent between €300 and €400, a little less than half of which for my golden demon ticket and the first part of my vampire army - the only items I've bought new.

I intend to finish my vampire army and to split the 40k 6th ed. starter with someone, to get something Forge World while I'm at games day and that will probably be it until the eldar codex is redone. Estimated total spending for the year - €700, approx. 65% on new items, €300 on my vampires.

Still more than I'd like, but the vampires should be the last army I start for a long time so I expect my spending to drop off further next year. Actually, I'm going to make that a goal for myself: halve my warhammer budget for 2013.

Having said that, this place has kinda put me off of the idea of Warhammer all together, the negativity toward Games Workshop and Warhammer in general is just overwhelming, nobody seems to have any fun with the games systems and everyone seems to regret starting the hobby in one way or another, or atleast, this is how I read into the vast majority of posts on here.

Having said that I'm having some fun with my first ever miniatures which are a set of Infinity sci-fi troopers, might have a look at Freebooter's fate next.
Eh, don't get put off too much, it's a damn fine game. Whilst the company has it's issues, there's plenty of folk about who enjoy it - just stay out of GW general and pricing threads to avoid negativity!

Haven't looked at Infinity but the Freebooter miniatures are gorgeous, very tempted to get a few myself.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

I've stopped all impulse buying on Games Workshop product. It used to be I'd walk into a store and think "It would be neat to add a unit of shades to my army" and I'd pop open the army book on the shelf, see what I needed and buy it on the spot. Now I carefuly research what I want, and I'm a lot less likely to end up buying something in the end.

This last price rise has really put the kicker in on it though. I don't see myself starting any new armies, and I'm likely to sell off armies that get new books but that will take a lot of money to bring up to date.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

About 50% less but this isn't exactly related to Games Workshop in my case. The price increase is somewhat discouraging but generally if I end up deciding that I want something then I will buy it, might just take longer to save.
I'm spending less because I have enough of all the armies I want. I've got the models to keep me busy painting for a while (especially in the final year of my schooling where I have exams every other week) so lately I only really buy stuff when it's new and I just like the model and want to paint it.
So it's not because of increased prices or anything like that it's just that I don't really need to buy anything more right now, I actually have most of the stuff I want. Though some Bretonnians would be nice...

And instead I'm spending my earnings on... nothing really. Trying to save up for a car I guess.

I am spending less but not due to any price influence or what not. It's more likely to be a combination of available hobby time, building / painting backlogs and the summer is coming.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

I just got my night goblins to a workable state and now I'm really putting the brakes on my GW buying. There are things I would love to add, but stupid prices prevents this from happening. For me, the sheer quantity of models needed to play, the prices and quality of the rules (seriously, 40K is pure crap now) all factor in my buying decision.

I just bought a house and while now I have a bitchin mancave to store my minis and play, I can't justify paying GW's prices... even the discounted online store prices. Also, I got into a couple other games and boy does $100 get you far with other games compared to GW's.
When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather. Not screaming like the other people in his car.

Got those old 5th edition lizardmen collecting dust? PM me, I really need more metal skinks with javelins.

Re: Are you spending less on Warhammer?

I am at the 75% less. I have 4 fantasy armies and have turned too discounters quite some time ago. However most of my armies don't need much more. I have been actually slowly (3 books ago) wanted too make a converted VC army, and over the last 2 books been slowly adding via trade and only buying at very very good prices. I have been able to zoo far get my hands on Zombie Dragon/Terrogheist, 40 Skeletons, 20 Dire Wolves, 15 Grave Guard all still new on sprue, and have been able too also get 10 Grave Guard, Varghulf, 10 Dire Wolves on top of that. I have spent maybe $120 CDN on this lot. Trading for some, purchasing some over the last 2 years. However if I went out and retail this stuff, its around the $400 mark. So yea, my fantasy spending has dropped 75% roughly from the way I use too to collect/build.

Now my 40k, my spending has been pretty good considering I had to progress some purchases far quicker then I wanted. Last June and this year I had to spend more then I wanted (Guard army) as what I was planning and the price rises caused me too go... spend extra now and save $100's from when I am ready. So discounters plus before the price rises (damn IG are nearly impossible too find someone trading far... everyone seems too collect them and never give them up lol) I saved myself from today's price about $300 CDN although they sit unbuilt waiting for love... maybe this summer lol
