    Orc Warboss on Wyvern

Hi All, I'm looking for some advice.

I run a 2,400pt OnG army. Recently, I've painted up an Orc Warboss on Wyvern, and therefore I need to crowbar him into my army, as he is my centrepiece and the best model I've ever painted. However, I'm a bit unsure on how to equip him.

I know that he's not good enough to win combats on his own, so I have been using him to deal with flanking units (which he can do well, and with his 18" Inspiring Presence can still support my battleline), or to either combo-charge with my big Blorc unit, or charge in the second round of combat (So I can get my Charging bonus to CR again, or if I've moved him right, a Flank or Rear bonus too).

My question is, how do I protect him? I had been running him with the Other Tricksters Shard, but I realise now that's probably a mistake. He has the Enchanted Shield which gives him a 3+ AS in total, and I have 30pts left to spend on him. Should I give him the Talisman of Endurance, or the Dawnstone + Potion of Speed?

The rest of my Lord Allowance is taken up with a SO Great Shaman, Lv4 on Boar, and a NG Warboss. Any suggestions gratefully received.

I'd spend more points on getting that tasty 4+ ward, but unfortunately theres not much that can protect the wyvern so well

Or rather, Fencer's Blades always makes for good combat defence (being WS10!!!)

I actually have run a wyvern lord with the dragonhelm, a shield and the dawnstone (3+ rerollable). It's only 35 points for the defensive combo, so I have the option of either keeping him cheap (my usual choice), or kitting him out with one of those nice swords from the BRB - I would have to go with the +3 attacks sword which would give the entire model (on the charge) 10 S6 attacks.

I also like the fencer's blade option that Lurkin mentioned - it nets you the extra attack and extra defense as well if you don't feel comfortable running with just the mediocre armor save.

Another option, if you are feeling *super* Orcish for one game is to give him the Armor of Gork. Impact Hits are cool, and the d3 toughness might help keep the bad boy alive against some tougher units.

I take him with the charmed shield, 5++ ward, magic weapon like the striking sword + potion of strengh (to deal with very big things)
He works well with an arachnarock (it's easy to give Ld9 to the big stubborn spider), regular big un's with the movement banner, big blocks of night goblins with nets, manglers and chariots for distraction, etc...

I always make mine the poot man lord. He has a GW, a iron curse thing (as it gives the mount a 6++ vs warmachines), and any other 5 point piece of gear I can that helps. It keeps him cheap and he will kill enough with a GW on a flank that he doesn't want to cost a ton. By keeping him cheap you also make him cost the same on the mount as most other people pay for a flying monster on its own!

I use him with the sword of +1 to hit, armor of destiny, other trickster shard and firebane gem (or however its called) and a nonmagical shield. It gives him a 3+, 4++ with decent combat capabilities, especially against those who rely on ward saves for defense.

If I had the points to spring for a black orc I would probably ditch the armor of destiny, and use a combination of talisman of preservation + dragonhelm/enchanted shield

I'd actually try to build the list so he isn't the general. Orc warbosses and wyverns are cheap enough that it's easy enough to do. General has 100 pts of equipment decking him out, while the wyvern warboss takes the wyvern, charmed shield, 4+ ward and a cheap weapon. It means you can't have a L4 wizard, but it's a sacrifice you make for including a great tool that wouldn't otherwise be available. If you take night goblins for your magic phase, you can get by pretty well without more than L2's anyways.
