They are lookign good![]()
¡Let the Galaxy burn!
body's done, legs are on the menu tonight, arms tomorrow morning before work. Hopefully done tomorrow, so I can start working on my fallen.
you can see I was more careless with the wash on this mini, managed to get the watered down scorched brown everywhere. Anyhoo, I done minis in this army, with and without cleaning up that mess, and both versions turn out looking fine. The scorched brown is so watered down, that it blends nicely, and makes a chaos marine look a little grimy. But it's hardly noticeable once the fine grey highlight goes on, as the contrast hides the brown wash.
Legs: my painting looks so crap when zoomed right in like this... good from a far, but far from good lol
This last guy will finish off the core of my Black Legion, so I'll take some group shots, probably tomorrow night. Core = 16 terminators, 2 Obliterators, 11 black legionaries, 6 Khorne Beserkers, and an additional 5 Black legionaries.
so again, the future menu: 6 Fallen Angels (kitbashed), 5 Plague Marines (FW), 4 Black Legion Bikes, 8 Raptors a Demonprince, and 2 spawns, and a dreadnaught (whenever it decides to present itself)

Great work there beppo, nice clean scheme, and your use of green's on the model is quite unusual, but credit where its due it certainly works!

Thanks Hawke. I can only really paint clean... I wish I could use your skills from time to time, I really like the way you paint your IWs.
The green is my unifying theme. If you go check out my loyalist thread, and then this thread, you'll see they have a lot in common.
This massive plan I had in my head started over a decade ago. It was to have two fully playable armies in my possession so that if any newbies wanted to play at my place, they'd be fully equipped. Both armies would be painted to equal painting standards, and both would be appropriately sized (Marine armies would take up a single sized GW case, while Guard/Horde armies would take up a double sized GW case). The plan then expanded.
It started after I finished my DAs. I fell in love with the Steel Legion. So I did a Steel Legion army, but I wanted them to look like they fit with the DAs if played with, or against them. Once I finished the Steel Legion, I did a renegade guard army, because that around when Forgeworld started doing their traitor guard line. They got finished around the time the last DA codex came out, so I got sidetracked, both upgrading the paint job of the DAs and dealing with unit reorganization that that codex punched me in the balls with.
At that point, I came up with the plan to do the same thing I did between my SL and DAs, but double up. So that in the end, I'd have 'matching' loyalist and chaos armies. The Green theme continued, because I realized that if I wanted to do a massive renegade guard army, I could combine the SL and my Renegade Guard, if their paint themes were unifying... and this translated over to the Black Legion.
So I can now field combinations like this: DA + SL, SL + RG, RG + BL, or SL + RG + BL... with all the models painted so they look like they belong in the same army, but also different enough so that they were also distinctly independent armies as well.
The plan is reaching completion soon with my BL, the final instalment almost being done with only about 30 models left to be purchased and painted (or foam tray from a single sized GW case). The 1 problem with this plan, is that with each subsequent army I moved onto, I got a little better with paint. My DAs were ok, and my steel legion were much better than them, but matched decently. Once I finished the Renegade Guard (where I had to work with a lot more highlighting and skin tone than previously), the loyalist armies started looking a little dull in comparison. So the DAs got the upgrade I mentioned before, when their last codex came out.
So in the near future, when the BL are finally done, I'll have three armies painted to the same standard, and on Steel Legion army that needs a full repaint... which I'm not looking forward to. The horde army painted to a good level is a really long term project.
But in the end, the reason for the use of green, is so that armies can be easily played together or apart, look distinct, while also sharing a common theme, so they can be played together. Obviously, Allies in 6th is welcomed here.
In the longer term, probably before I tackle repainting the whole of my steel legion, I'm considering doing a single GW carry case foam sheet of demons (4 squads of each flavor of lesser demons + 2 greater demons) and a single gW carry case foam sheet of inquisition heavy grey knights. Again expanding on the idea of having two fully kitted out factions, one loyalist, one heretic, all painted to the same level and in theme.
when all is said and done, then I'll be moving onto superheavies, as I have two pretty huge matching armies right now to justify them, without having them look out of place, followed by Titans for each.

Sounds like an interesting plan, i like the idea behind the green. Personally i favour unified basing themes (you'll have seen the light dust/sands i use a lot atm) but having a coherent colour is a pretty good idea. As you said, with the allies system of 6th, pre-apoc and post-apoc your design and theme could work out fantastically well on the tabletop.
If your interested, i've got a tutorial on painting steel legion tanks, i might be a little weathering heavy for your style of painting, but if there's any techniques in there you feel you want to borrow then check out This thread.
obviously as a chaos player, i can't wait to see how the entire assembly will look once you get around to that future-daemons force. I'll be keeping an eye on this.

yeah, I unify by basing as well, but everything I have gets the same basing... but being away from home, there are things I don't want to accumulate right now, including that stuff. Obviously, for the Black legion, you can tell which 3 guys I finished before coming out here, the rest I did on my working vacation.
Holy moly Beppo, you work with the speed of a deamon forgeworld manned by a thousand kobolds. Very impressive looking army, and such great quality. I like your 'Huron' champion so much, I will replicate him for my own army. Great job all round!
