16-bit fun: A Super Dungeon Explore log.

Hello! And welcome to my second painting log. Frankly - I was aghast and amazed that there were not more focused Super Dungeon Explore logs posted here. It's such a fun and awesome kit of goodies. So once again I thought I'd do my little part to help spread something cool to the masses. (Well, more of the masses - I think SDE is actually pretty popular.)

Check out this list of minis that comes in the box: Things in bold are what I have finished. Things with a /# after them are progress made on a certain unit type. Though I plan to skip around a lot.

    5 Treasure chests
    2 Boo Bootys
    4 Kobold Warrens
    1 Dragon egg clutch point
    6 Kobold Gougers
    6 Kobold Knuckleheads
    4 Kobold Flingers
    4 Kobold Ironscales
    2 Kobold Dragon Priest
    2 Kobold Ogres
    2 Dragon Whelps
    2 Dragon Wyrmlings
    2 Dragon Hatchlings
    1 Starfire Dragon
    1 Angry Bear (Druid form)
    1 Deeproot Druid
    1 Royal Paladin
    1 Hearthsworn Fighter
    1 Glimmerdusk Ranger
    1 Ember Mage
    1 Hexcast Sorceress
    1 Riftling Rogue
    1 Claw Tribe Barbarian

Overal Progress 52/52 Minis done. (100%)

As you can see - I have a fair bit done. Though most of the that was the easy stuff I've gotten out of the way. I plan to ration those shots out though over the first few posts to give the false impression of a lot of progress.

Here's the first pic! The Treasure chests!

That's a LOT of stuff The chests look great. I'm sorely tempted to grab this game.

Huh. My chests are all brown and boring. Never occured to me to make them more colorful. It fits in with the spirit of the game really well. Good thinking!

So where is that Kobold you spake of?

Mdiscala, Cult King - Thanks for the kind words.

Norton - I almost went brown and boring with my chests - then I was struck with inspiration at the last minute of "chests in games are usually colorful so they stand out." I'm glad I did. The Kobold(s) will be coming! Like I said I'm going to spread out the stuff I have painted already over a week or so's time, so that it looks like a well supported painting log. That way in the future when I'm only cranking out 1 mini every 2-3 weeks people can look back fondly at how frequently updated my log was. I'll post my next pic tomorrow probably.

I really should have started playing sde with my girlfriend instead of war hammer quest, would be so much more affordable. Really looking foreword to seeing your progress in this log and the chests look great!

It is very affordable! And they'll be proper expansions and whatnot coming out for it too.

Anyways - here's another pic. More treasure chests, but these are the bitey ones!

Sweet chests. I'd like to put some yellow plaque on the teeth or maybe blood.

Trustey - I'm trying to keep things kinda cartoon-y - so the blood is a no-go. The plaque is a good idea though - I might have to revisit them in the future - I agree the teeth look a little flat.

And here's the last boring old update before we get to some Kobolds! Behold - the Dragon Egg Clutch

Ok - lets get to some actual minis - enough accessories.

Here are the first 3 Kobold Gougers.

With that - my stored up pictures are gone :/ BUT I have managed to get two Kobold Flingers and the Demonkin rogue painted (which is really tremendous progress by my standards). I still need to hit them with the Matte spray and take pics though. Weather willing they should be sometime later this week.

Finally, a balmy day let me bust out the Matte spray and "finish" some stuff that had been mostly done for a while now. That means a few updates this week! Yay.

Here's some more Kobolds. The first of the Flingers.

    Hero Time!

I started with the Demonkin Rogue because she was my least favorite of all the hero sculpts, and I could tell by how she was posed she was going to be a pain to paint (given that her underside would be so difficult to see, I ended up really just writing most of that section off). But in the end she turned out really good and cute, so now I love her.

I hope to get started on my second hero later today.

It got a little washed out in the picture, but I did paint some striations on her hair, so it doesn't look so flat. You can barely see them in the photos though.

Some more Kobold reenforcements. The first of the Knuckleheads:

Painting up all the metallics one these in one quick go made these very painless to get through.

He reminds me of a kobold I used to know.

Regrettably I can't look at the bigger picture of your Rogue. It just won't load for me.
She looks very nice from what I can see, though.
I had the same qualms about the sculpt and I still have no idea what that thing she's wearing around her neck is supposed to be. Just as it did in your case, though, it turned out okay.

More Kobolds on the move - the Ironscales. Despite the name I thought they stood out better with bronze armor.

I'm going to try to get some paint on one of the Dragon Priest today hopefully. I Just haven't been in the mood to paint lately I guess, so jack all has gotten done :/

And my poor little rogue needs help desperately. But I got frustrated when I tried to paint the ranger/paladin, and ended up putting them in the Simple Green. So it's going to be a while. Hang in there little rogue!

A bit of a lame, sneaky bump - as I haven't gotten anything painted in weeks now :/ But I thought I'd post this here for anyone who might be interested in SDE.

Miniature Market (a really nice gaming store in the U.S.) has SDE on clearance (!) for $50. (!!)

I really can't fathom why they have it on clearance, as SDE has sold like gangbusters. It was literally a little over a month ago people were clamoring to get their hands on a copy while waiting for the second run to be released.

But if you want a copy, or a second copy. Now's a damn good time to get one.
