    Line of sight to Groblog

Hi guys, we've had quite a few rules questions come up recently and before we head off to the UK doubles tournament in a couple of weeks I thought I'd get some feedback. I'm posting them as multiple threads as one thread with multiple questions might easily get bogged down with discussion of one topic.

This one's far more pedantic and opinion based than factual but I'm just wondering where people stand on it.

We're using Groblog in our army (can't knock that Fury boost!) and were just wondering how people treated line of line to a model that is clearly small but modelled to be ridiculously visible?!?!?

Obviously, if a cave troll is behind 2 rows of goblins, archers should be able to target the troll as it is a bigger figure. But it seems to me that Groblog should be safe behind a few rows of goblins but the figure (which I actually like) makes him a ******* great target! I'm just wondering how you think people will play it in a tourney? Our group plays it the fairly logical way that he's actually assumed to be on the ground and so can't be targeted.

We also discovered that if you are being so pedantic to use 'true' line of sight then you can actually spin the model around so his rock faces the enemy, in which case would any archers have to make an 'in-the-way' roll?

I understand that this is very pedantic and cheesy and just to confirm we play it the sane, 'spirit of the game' way, I'm just curious about what to expect in a tournament atmosphere!

Thanks guys, interested to hear your thoughts.

I would interpret the rules as classifying the pillar as part of the model. So it can not be in the way.

Does that mean it can be targetted? I'd be tempted to cut the figure off the rock at that point!
Not a great design job for a line-of-sight game.

Well this is my point, unlike some I really like the figure/pose and have assembled it and use it as sculpted. However, it strikes me that any situation that requires you to change a figure's pose to get an advantage in the game is a rules oversight.

We use the figure as a cool centrepoint for the army and assume he is in fact around the same height as a goblin or, as my opponent put it "he doesn't drag a rock around him for the whole battle!"

However I realise that in a tourney true line of sight will probably win out over common sense! Fair play to you Jobu for converting it but there's no way I'm doing that, it's a Finecast figure - that rock cost me about £5 :-)

On my way to the doubles tournament now for a weekend of playing with toys, I'll let you know if Groblog gets pincushioned!

Good luck! I'm with you for not cutting up models for rules advantages, and for liking Groblog too. It's a nifty gobbo!

Well, perhaps inevitably, no-one shot at Groblog throughout the tournament so it never came up!

Just writing up a fairly extensive battle/tournament report, I'll post it in the battle report section when I'm done.
