Re: FW nexs letter 307 MKIV command set, minotaur's eched brass

Really like that Captain with the cloak thrown over his shoulder. Very unique Banner guy needs a gun transplant... don't like the Tirgis pattern compared to the other FW bolt pistol design on the character upgrade pack.

As for the Mino brass sheet, I really like how they did the swirly pattern in the "sprue" edge! I hope they do more of that in the future, it's a great use of the material.

The command set is okay, but there is many other infantry kits that I would prefer to buy over this one. A whole command squad would have kicked ass, especially since they already have an apothecary.

EDIT: Dat swirly pattern indeed. Well done FW.

FW is doing great with character models. First the Apothecaries, now these guys.

I seriously loving the Mk. IV set. I can see so many pre-Heresy/Heresy Emperor's Children players using these, especially the Captain. Loving the little details, including the left gauntlet of the Captain (digital weapons?) and the revamp of the old 2nd edition-style backpacks (which mostly just seems to be scaling them up a smidge and sharpening the details so that they fit with the current styles). Nice work, FW!

Yeah, as far as I can tell, they started that little trend with the Zone Mortalis brass etch a few weeks back. It's a nice touch... good for modellers who are in want of more miscellaneous details to add to things. Hell, I even hope to see some of the more confident people out there to use the sprue frames for, say, adding trimming onto vehicles!

I had a feeling it wouldn't be a full squad once they released the Apothecaries separately... it would have been neat to do the full squad with Champion etc. in one place but this'll do.

Just noticed the Captain doesn't have any iron halo markings on him. That's kind of a let-down, good thing I have a billion halos left over from all those Termi kits I bought back in the day

I don't like the Ultramarine bling but those mk. IV command models are nifty!

A Champion in Mk. IV would be cool, but I guess you could easily just do up most of the model using the basic Mk. IV kit and some of the Red Scorpions Honour Guard bits, which make for some nice "decorative" Mk. IV. There's even one helm in that kit that looks like a hybrid between the Company Champion helm and a normal Mk. IV.

Re: FW nexs letter 307 MKIV command set, minotaur's eched brass

Not wanting to be the debbie downer (well...kinda), but I just can't get into these releases. For a while now almost all of them have just been reiterations of minor SM armor/weapon variants for everything, a retro resculpt for the predator, and transfers/brass etch for forgettable sideshow chapters. We're getting a lot of stuff to play Space Marine Dress-up with, and they're all well done models, but in the end it's all still rather similar Space Marine power armor for the most part (at least with most guard regiments they look radically different, i.e. Krieg vs Catachan as opposed to MkIV vs MkVII armor).

TL; DR: FW makes great sculpts, but I just can't bring myself to care about Space Marine fashion accessory set #4172 "Summer Centurions".

    MkIV Space Marine Command Set
Space Marine MKIV Command SetEach Company in a Space Marine Chapter falls under the command of a Captain, a hardened veteran and a master strategist. These lords of war read the battlefield’s ebb and flow with enhanced reflexes and a post-human grasp of the ever-changing arena of combat in which they spend their lives.

In addition to his Chapter rank, each Captain may also bear additional honorific titles and epithets associated with both his deeds of valour and the Company he leads. Each is often accompanied by a Standard Bearer, carrying the battle-flag of the company, invariably steeped in history and heavy with the glories of the Chapter.

The MkIV Space Marine Command Set, designed by Mark Bedford, contains two multi-part resin models, allowing you to build a Space Marine Commander and Standard Bearer in MkIV ‘Maximus’ Armour.
This detailed set of miniatures is available to pre-order, for despatch from Friday 29th June.

    Etched Brass Minotaurs Symbols
Etched Brass Minotaurs SymbolsThe Minotaurs are a Space Marine Chapter of dark renown, infamous for their cold and brutal methods of war, their mastery of siege craft and their malign and bitter paranoia even when fighting alongside allies.

This sheet of Etched Brass Minotaurs Symbols, designed by Kenton Mills, contains 60 individual Chapter icons, blazons and symbols suitable for use on Space Marine infantry and vehicles from shoulder pads, greaves and chest plates to doors and other vehicle panels.

This detailed set of etched brass symbols is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 29th June.

I loved these when I first looked at them. Then I looked at the banner itself. I've seen better banner sculpts on some 3 star rated project logs. This is honestly the only time I feel that forgeworld have let something like this slip. If it weren't for the quality of the banner, these models would be the usual forgeworld epic quality models.

This isn't a dig at 3 star project logs, I just expect forgeworld to be star standard.

Well, I doubt they're going to release something interesting with new rules until 6th gets here, and people are sure the new toys are worth their money.

I'm not sure if FW has advance info on GW's products or not, but even if they can *absolutely, positively* make sure their new vehicles/units/characters are worth it, they're not about to release them now. It's bad marketing to promote something now, if people are going to save their money until 6th anyway..

Will decide once I see the parts. The holding helmet hand is cool but since I have no similar armour in my army then it's a bit of a waste. If that could be replaced easily enough with another helm then I am game.

    Love the captain.

The past few marine releases have been really popular. I was at Warhammer World last week collecting my apothecaries and when I asked about the possibility of an extra set they said there was currently a 3-4 week waiting on them. If they're selling that well they'll keep doing them.

I like the banner, particularly the way it is completely free of any iconography (but leaves plenty of room to put in the brass-etch details FW do, as well as allowing for the better free-hand painters to go wild)

I love these command models. £25 is a bit expensive but you get what you pay for in quality and design I think. FW really are making me want to start a PH army but my wallet refuses to let me.

Great sculpts and those brass-etch pieces are nudging me closer and closer to a Minotaurs army. The small shields on their arms would be just the thing for Raptors or Mentors though.
