Just thought id throw my two cents in and say that the two managers i know as freinds have both been told that 30th of june is a relase date for a and i quote "major relase requiring all stores to promote and distribute advertising" their gueses like mine are that this will be the relase date of 6th edition and that the preorders are avalible along with officail anouncemnt on the 23rd
Really? I thought major releases got two week preorders, I'm certain that Dreadfleet got a two week preorder and I think Fantasy 8th did as well. Also didn't we already hear 7/7/12 as the release date?
30/6 would suit me much better, I'm running a game for the juniors at our LGS and having a week to wrap my brain around the changes would be much better than 5 hrs
you don't have to use the newest edition, it's your event...
Win/Ties/Loss:
Tau 27/2/8 2009, 5/0/2 2012, 1/0/0 2013
Greyknights 17/3/4 2011, 47/4/11 2012
I hope the new rule book sorts things out. I'm unhappy as to how they are now.
I'd say the release date will be the 7th just because of logistics of shipping books to stores. If the release date was the 30th, books would have to lave GW warehouses on Wednesday the 27th for arrival on Friday. to both independent and official GW stores. That gives them essentially 4 days for people to preorder the book. If the release date is the 7th they gain another 7 days for people to preorder.
Also to those who think this is the actual release date, when was the last time GW DIDN'T do advance orders on almost anything they sell/

I really hope the burning Imperial Eagle is symbolic and not just "cool looking." I keep hearing rumours that GW wants to progress the story and timeline while taking some focus off of the Imperium and giving some attention to other races like Tau and Eldar.
I'd rather see a galaxy where the Imperium doesn't dominate most of it as right now there's no real sense of urgency that the Imperium is going anywhere. We keep hearing about these major events that happen against the Imperium, yet you look at the galactic map and the Imperium still controls most of it. Would be interesting to see the Imperium actually control a third or less of the galaxy.

Could both be right. Maybe GW is going to start preorders on the 23rd Ship to Official GW stores in time for the 30th and then ship to independent retailers in time for a July 7th release? It would promote sales in store but not hinder those without GW retailers nearby to greatly.
I doubt they will ever take the focus away from the Imperials but most rumors seem to indicate that the story will be driven by the conflict between Order and Chaos.
Order will most likely be dominated by Imperial with a sprinkling of nice(er) Xenos and Chaos will be well Chaos with a sprinkling of not so nice Xenos.
I guess that will leave Nids swinging in the wind?

Design open day on the 14th completely dedicated to 40K. This is then followed by "cataclysm", a major 40K event on the 15th.
I'll eat my hypothetical hat if 6th is not unveiled alongside all that stuff - a good week before the 23rd. Thus 23rd could indeed be release day, rather than unveil day.
I can confirm this :

Nofir ? Who the hell is that Nofir that every single Space Marine know about ?! I, for one, don't know him ! Even if I should ! And they shall know Nofir, what the ****... (anonymous Space Marine, unknown chapter)
My flgs is pretty pissed about this. They wanted to run a escalation league running up to the release of 6th, to get a lot of new people ready to play the game on release day. They still haven't been told officially. Now there's not much they can do...

Its not just that, pre orders on the 23rd for delivery on the 30th means that, for GW's own pre order policy, people would have precisely 48 hours to pre order the book in time to pick it up at their local store (with free shipping no less) on launch day.
They will want people in shop picking up the book, marketing will want lead time for the pre orders to accumulate, so I would guess they will want that 8 days window for pre orders to be picked up on launch day, leading to a 7th launch.
All this rampant speculation about what GW marketing and logistics needs to do is a bit tedious of a subject. What I want to know is when all the interesting nerdrage is going to get started.
I'm still pretty sure of the 7th.

I hope you're right, I thought that the 5th ed rulebook had the start of a new direction of fluff with the whole end of times thing, but they never did a thing with it. Maybe an idea they backed out of? Perhaps they have spent more time on it and this edition will see them use the potential of this idea. Everyone focuses on rules, but lets hope the fluff in this rulebook is up to scratch!
