    Lyinar's Big 40k Project

So, a few weeks ago, I realized that a lot of the armies I'd started but hadn't gotten a chance to finish were either at, above, or close to 1000 points, and decided to start the process of getting each of them to that level. I'll be posting pictures of the bits I've done so far tomorrow, once I have charged batteries for my camera.

Currently, the armies I'm working on are:
    Tyranids
    Salamanders
    Space Wolves
    Blood Angels
    Dark Eldar
Craftworld Eldar (repainting my old Altansar-painted miniatures that I did *EDIT: NOW TWO* editions, two paint ranges, and a hell of a lot of painting experience ago)
    Ork Freebotaz!
    Necrons
    Imperial Guard
    Chaos Daemons
    Chaos Space Marines
    Dark Angels
Tau (my first army, started way back in the depths of Third Edition, now updated for Sixth!)

    My Freebota Warboss, Kaptin Mogran!

I used some Green Stuff to actually make the AoBR Warboss look where he's pointing, and a bit more to make him a tricorn hat.

    Re: Lyinar's Big 40k Project

My Eldar of Craftworld Kaelor. I'm using the helmets to differentiate the Aspect Warriors from the basic colour scheme, while still keeping their armour in the orange-to-red range for the Craftworld.

    My plastic Autarch conversion.

    Dire Avengers Exarch.

Striking Scorpions Exarch. Took a bit of work to get a duller, less "OMG! LOOK AT ME! I'M OVER HERE!" orange for his armour.

My first Salamanders model painted in the new colour scheme I'm using, with a darker green.

All-plastic Rune Priest conversion. The detail on his face is a bit washed out due to the very pale skin colour.

My Hive Tyrant, of Hive Fleet Sulfuron.

And a side-view that shows the colours a bit better, as the camera's not compensating for the large mass of grey from the unpainted Dreadstone Blight in the background.

Since I've decided I'll also be doing my Imperial Guard to 1000, I've added them to the list for this project.

As such, here's a Valkyrie I did a while back:

    Re: Lyinar's Big 40k Project

Painted this lot up over the course of Sunday. I didn't think it was possible, but Argax Earthshade is actually better than Devlan Mud. Also, for models like these, and my Zombie Jonathan Coulton for my Vampire Counts army, I've found that Liquid Greenstuff is pretty useful for building the bases up to a more natural-looking hillock.

Next few updates are probably going to be before-and-after pics of my all-plastic Vulkan He'stan conversion that predates the official miniature, to show the original colour scheme I was going for with my Salamanders, and then the repaint with the darker green, the Thunderfire cannon for my Salamanders, and the Sentinel I'll be putting in my IG army.

I love that ork warboss, a great hat and stipey pant combo is a winner every time in my opinion. Your salamander marine I think has too much brown wash on it, it's created an odd effect that I don't think looks good on marine armour.

    Re: Lyinar's Big 40k Project

It is actually a green wash, just the darkest, brownest one, which was hard to tell when I bought it. Worked great on Kaptin Mogran's skin. I may end up going back over and re-highlighting the Salamander Sergeant.

Just looking through your log mate and I have to say you have a lot of different armies going on but it is a pleasure to watch you paint through them so to speak. Keep up the good work and Don't lose your steam you are an inspiration to those of us with more armies than time to paint. I look forward to seeing your next installment

    Cheers,

    New stuff!

Repainted the Salamanders Sergeant. Colour from the camera was a bit off, but you can still see the better-looking highlights.

Also, did something pretty interesting with the cockpit of my Stormtalon.

And my Imperial Guard Sentinel. I converted it a bit with the armoured side section on the side the HK Missile is on, because it would make sense to not have the driver scorch his face off when launching the thing.

The bodies and heads are from Wargames Factory's Sci-fi Greatcoat Shock Trooper set. Everything else is Cadian, to make them actually look like Imperial Guardsman of some variety, instead of "Random Generic Dudes".

I like it! The Techmarine looks very detailed and I think you have done a good job blending the flames on the thunderfire cannon. I also like the details on the little console as well.
I'm selling loads of Dark Eldar Check them out! and grab yourself a bargain!

    Re: Lyinar's Big 40k Project

Adding Daemons to my list, as with the new release, I've got two plastic sets to get to 1000 points with what I already have.
