Thread: A wood elf rumor. [CLOSED]

  1. #41

    Re: A wood elf rumor.

    So far we have had:

    Goblins vs High Elves
    Bretonia vs Lizardmen
    Dwarves vs Goblins
    Skaven vs High Elves

Seeing as high elves and goblins were repeated I guess Bretonia could be done again as well. However it would be kind of weird to turn those 2 armies onto eachother right?

I would love to see a Daemons of Chaos vs Wood Elves starter set where they put in plastic models of some of the remaining metal Daemon figures to get that army fully plastic kits together with getting the woodies a completely new army

Yeh, I think it started as "wood elves and brets would make a good tamurkhan-style forgeworld book" and somehow ended up as "wood elves and brets are getting merged"

and for the record, I would definitely rage quit if this happened

    Fixed that for you

I think Lizardmen and Brets got the 5th ed book because they were the new kids on the block at the time, at least Lizardmen were, I'm not sure about Brets.

Daemons and wood elves Would be rather an odd choice, I could see maybe beasts and wood elves being a very cool foresty themed starter set, especially as they have such a great in-world grudge going.

I kinda think we might end up with Warriors of chaos in a box at some point, they're the my one off the major players in the setting that haven't been in a starter, all the others; Empire, Dwarfs, greenskins (heck they've been in 3) have been at least once.

Still, let's try and drag this back on topic, this was a rumour about a 8th ed wood elf book next year, not wood elves in a 9E starter set in 2 years time.

So, I take it that the common opinion is that a wood elf release next year is possible but unlikely.

I think it would be a good idea (or at least an easy way of bringing two very out of date playstyles into line with mainstream 8th edition) if they did merge...

    But I wouldn't ragequit if they didn't.

I'm not sure "rage-quit" is the right word, but they'd have to massacre the wood elf fluff so comprehensively to justify a merger with Bretonnia that I very much doubt I'd have a great deal of interest in the army still. Poncy french knights who oppress their underclasses has never held any attraction for me. The Asrai have never been allied with Brettonia to the point where they actually fight alongside one another, the best they've ever had is a vague agreement not to kill each other too often (wild hunts notwithstanding). It would also completely ignore the existence of any wood elves that don't live in Loren (which the current fluff appears to do to some extent). There are wood elves in the forests of the Empire if I remember correctly.

You may as well try and fold Tomb Kings and greenskins into the same book because... Oh look, Nehekhara and the bad lands are right next to each other.

Both Lizardmen and Brets was a complete reboot of previous versions of Brets and Slaan not seen since 3rd edition. So effectively they were both new races.

No, not really, check the 5th ed campaign "The Perilous Quest"

That being said, I kinda agree with Spiney Norman, I've always been surprised that chaos has never made it in a starter set, so I can see chaos versus empire next. But that's totally conjecture, there's no way to know.
Anyway, on topic, that rumor doesn't seem to really fit with the other rumors. Maybe it's just the plastic treeman (pretty much confirmed by Harry and Hastings iirc) that is going to be released then as a splash release?

    Re: A wood elf rumor.

Dammit beat me to mentioning the Perilous quest expansion. XD Need to set up a joust tourney with friends soon But yeah its not like those two factions dont ever have dissagreements. I said the starter thing in Jest though, as i dont hold any hope of Bretonnia being anytime in the next couple of years sadly. Though i would love to see WE get a book next year if Brets are not likely too any time soon. So hopefully its a good sign they might

    Indeed.

As for starter set brainstorming: please take that to a new thread of its own.

This is just a rumour some new face on asrai posted and they've decided to run with it since Wood Elf players want a new book.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's disproved, just not entirely reliable, one source does not a rumor mill make

If your looking at another 5-7 years min. maybe there is a hope and chance... probably a better hope and chance then we put a man on Mars... actually that might have a better hope and chance lol

In terms of the rumour, we need a silo of salt. We have been told there is a Treeman in plastic (Hastings) for at least 10 months now, but I believe both Hastings and Harry have said basically "not for over a year at the very best" when it comes down too WE or Bret books.

    Re: A wood elf rumor.

Actually since august 2010 there have been rumours about wood elves being released the year after so i dont buy anything and just wait till i see something from gw themselves. Being a wood elf and bretonnia player im screwed anyway

I think I gave a pretty good run down in my first post in this thread. We know almost for certain it's WoC this fall, and next year seems like it'll be High elves and dwarves and then maybe dark elves. So we're looking at 2014 for wood elves if they luck out and get in as the last book of 8th, which may not happen. If it doesn't then it'll be 2015 or 2016... Hurray for GW.

Last two have been four years, but both 7th fantasy and 5th 40k have had obvious problems. 8th fantasy, while obviously not perfect(nothing is), is still a solid and very very popular edition, and as such, it makes little sense to rush out a replacement.
That assuming they didn't start on it some time ago, no reason to think it would be a rushed release, I could see it a tweaked version being released to address the issues with skirmishers which would make wood elves a easier army to make while also addressing issues with certain magic lores which is something that really needs to be done, and making cavalry more viable (which would help brets a lot)
