I'm not sure they'd be in the same book (at least i hope not!) but the armies are very closely linked in the fluff, so it'd be nice to see a little crossover, especially since the Bretonnians are effectively led by elves.

Brets and Wood Elfs are akin to Empire and Dwarfs and seeing that there were no Dwarfs in the new Empire Book one could conclude that there will be no Wood Elfs in the Bret Book.
A joined book would be dumb, and it seems like almost complete speculation from someone who hates both armies.
The real question is this: will either woodies or brets receive an update before 9th's inevitable 2014 landing? If they crank three next year (probably high elves, dwarves, dark elves?) that leaves pretty much only 1 release in 2014 before the big summer rule book release. Will it be skaven? Daemons? Brets? Wood elves? Beastmen?
My guess? Skaven or daemons, and Brets and woodies maybe sometime towards the middle/end of 9th. 2016? 2017?
I mean lets face it, the wood elves and bretonnians have been the sisters of battle of fantasy for a long time now.

But the real question is, who said that 9th is coming out in 2014?
Thought I heard something about GW re-doing all army books before releasing 9th. I remember at the end of last year there were lots of rumors about Brets and WE coming out soon. I believe this was around the time GW was in a lawsuit with Mantic over the rights to Chaos Dwarfs. They won and Mantic had to change the name to Abyssal Dwarfs, but they lost the part of the suite where they wanted to have copyright laws on ideas for minis they had not created yet. So basically they court said you own the rights to Chaos dwarf because you have created all the minis prior to the case. But you can't do stuff like make up new units for army's (like skaven and beastmen) and then not create minis for them for years and expect to be able to sue other companies for creating a mini with the same name as their idea (So you can't own and copyright an idea GW). I believe it might have been GW intention to rush Brets and WE and leave them stranded with cool new units and no minis until they felt it was time to get off their bums. Then they lose the second half of the lawsuit and have to change the release schedule because GW is not going to let others make money off their ideas. With all the new books that have come out in 8th they have made all the new units. Maybe someone who really loves WE has been hard at work on the new units (keeping fingers crossed). I kinda doubt they will be out that soon but one can always hopeIt would be so cool to have my two army's (wood elves and chaos warriors) be released back to back!
Well Wood Elves and Brettonia are most overdue for a new book, I'd love to see it happen.
I think Wood Elves have potential to be an awesome looking army, they need more forest-type monsters other than eagles and treemen.
My post was based on the 4 year edition cycle that fantasy and 40k have followed since 7th editions release. I could be wrong of course, but GW has become incredibly corporate and organized since the end of the 6th edition era, and I don't think summer of 2014 is a long shot. It staggers 40k and fantasy rule books 2 years apart.
The second half of my speculation is based on Harry and Hastings rumors (2 of the most consistently correct rumor miners on warseer). They both vouch for warriors of chaos this fall. That leaves 2013 with three releases and 2014 with 1 (if patterns hold and they only do 1 army book before the rule book launch). Hastings has mentioned high elves as the next elves (after chaos is released), so that leaves 3 armies before 9th. Dwarves and dark elves have both been mentioned, the only wood elf rumor is the tree-man, there are no Bret rumors (other than from a guy who lived in the middle of the u.s., so not as credible as Harry or Hastings)
I'll admit, it's not unbelievable that with the tree-man confirmed, woodies may trump dark elves, dwarves, daemons and skaven but don't hold onto any hope of the brets.
If any of my rumors or dates are off, feel free to correct me, it's all speculation anyway. I live in California and only game at home, no connections here![]()

Time between editions tend to be 4-6 years.
Last two have been four years, but both 7th fantasy and 5th 40k have had obvious problems. 8th fantasy, while obviously not perfect(nothing is), is still a solid and very very popular edition, and as such, it makes little sense to rush out a replacement.
Why doesn't it make sense to rush out a replacement? Because it's a risk. New editions have the potential of sinking the game, just like a new army book/codex has the potential to sink an army. To sink an army ain't really a big deal - some will quit, but most will just buy into a different army instead. To crash an entire game, however... that ain't a risk worth taking, unless the current edition is aged enough that sales are flagging anyway.
tl;dr I'd expect fantasy to last at least 5 years, and wouldn't be surprised if they went all the way to 6. 4 is unlikely.
I tend to agree with theJ. There is still plently of life in 8th edition and considering there was a year before the first army book was even released I see Woodies managing to get an 8th edition book. I think 2013 is likely, although I would guess it will be towards the end of the year rather than the beginning.
Glass half full, by the time GW figures out how to make skirmishing/shooting and a cavalry army viable in an edition which hates both, then hopefully the they will catch the edition creep/reverse momentum and be powers houses in 9th. Like HE currently.
Don't understand GWs neglect of WE. Non elf lists are like the Necrons of fantasy for painting. Bretonia I understand. You have to be super dedicated to paint a unit of master pieces...which deserves an update for that as well.
If there isn't going to be a Bretonnian/Wood Elf release in the next twelve months, just give us a White Dwarf update. That way, we'll all be complaining about how we wish they'd just left us alone and forgot about us instead of neutering us hopelessly.
There was bits of info about a Treeman floating about if that helps?
drop dead will ya , nobody is waiting for a sisters of battle treatement...
I'm putting my bets on the complete opposite - 4 years is what I'm expecting and I find 5-6 years is highly unlikely.
Warhammer has been on an almost perfectly consistent 4-year cycle since at least as far back as 4th Edition. The only reason 6th Edition Warhammer (and likewise 3rd Edition 40K) was extended to last 6 years was to provide breathing space for Lord of the Rings. I suspect GW originally had every intention of eventually making LotR a proper 3rd core game and making the 6-year cycle permanent, alternating every 2-years between Warhammer, LotR and 40K... but then the bubble burst, GW lost faith in sustaining LotR hype, and returned Warhammer and 40K back to their 4-year cycles.
Granted, with the Hobbit movies coming up over the next two years, there's the chance GW might delay the next editions of Warhammer and 40K again, but I am highly doubtful GW will repeat the past where LotR is concerned (especialy with the Hobbit Films fitting so snuggly between 6th Edition 40K this year and 9th Edition Warhammer in 2014).
