Thread: Thunderhawk, once and for all

Re: Thunderhawk, once and for all

I had a FW Thunderhawk and there is one thing everyone overlooks, the weight. It must weigh between 8 to 10 pounds and cannot be easily mounted. I sold mine cause I never used. I couldnt find a way to mount it on a base securely. And since I couldnt have it flying on the battlefield it sat on the shelf. I was too afraid of it getting knocked over and destroyed, especially considering the cash I sank into it.

You do realise that with a bit of searching on the gw's on fb, you will stumble upon how to make a thunderhawk from 2 storm ravens and a vindicator.. yes it takes work to build it and its not for everyone, but its a fully fledged TH for 1/3 the price (if you include the current price hike.. it was 1/4 before)

it was circulated through internal gw mail (from their head office).. so that kinda cements the fact it wont be made into a plastic kit any time soon

And GW France famously gave instructions on how to make Drop Pods out of plasticard... until the plastic Drop Pod was released.

Man, I've seen this all before, and there's only one way it can end. In blood, tears, and the limp-wristed flailing of nerd-slaps.

there was a note on the instructions that there isnt anything planned for at least the next 18months, thats why they made this conversion.

I thought this thread might contain some actual news, not the thoughts of someone who emailed FW "years ago". I am disappoint.

Can anyone post a picture of a Thunderhawk next to any of the other marine flyers?

This has all the hall marks of classic misdirection, don't look at the thunderhawk, no it's not there, no you can't see it!

If it was plastic then I'd buy one, because I'm a collector and who doesn't want one in their collection!

It will eventually happen but my head tells me not for a while or at least not until GW need a big model to fix the falling sales and profits

Been consistent rumours of of a t-hawk for well over 18 months. I think trying to attached any sort of timeline to the potential release of a t-hawk is folly until we see pre orders

Thanks, it's not bad at all.

I found this one: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...e=3&permPage=1 . It's even better and looks like far less work. The only real weak point is the top section and battle cannon, which could be fixed with a better choice of barrel size, and a little bit more of a keen eye for the construction of the hump in which it is housed... a properly sliced up vindicator would look great there. The only other things I would change if I attempted this is to give the wings the appearance of a little more strength, by extending a forward sweep between the engine and the hull (where there is currently nothing). I guess I'd also keep the 'engine' covers that the SR has, and squeeze them under the s-foils to make the engines look a little more robust. And put the top engine intake, and maybe even the assault cannon turret from the SR on the underside. Definitely gonna try this when I get home.

This relatively simple conversion really illustrates how easy it would be for GW to produce a TH. It's slightly more plastic than two Stormravens. I'd gladly pay twice the price of a SR for a TH

I just find the wigan one a tad "busy". Its a damn good job at kit bashing a thawk, but i look at it an see parts.

the one beppo posted looks better. Much more of it's own miniature then a bunch slapped together.

Marshel, I'd like to point out that you can build the Iron Saint straight out of the box, and it comes in at 850 points base. The only changes to the Iron Saint compared to a "normal" Shadowsword are cosmetic in nature, so a normal Shadowsword can be used adequately as the Iron Saint.

Because nobody in their right mind A.) wants to make that many pins to keep the damn thing together and B.) considering the metal one was only $300 when it came out, nobody in their right mind is going to pay $800 -$1000 for it, when they can just as easily pay the $600 -$650 for the FW resin one.

Re: Thunderhawk, once and for all

I can't help but thinking this thread was meant to be proven wrong, so all kinds of people could jump in and give possibilities for a plastic Thunderhawk release...
Basically what the forumrules say about posting a question in the rumors area.
The OP here made a statement, and hoped for the discussion that's now going on. Kinda smart!
We all know everyone (myself included) is craving for some plastic Thunderhawk kit...
(to OP: If I'm totally wrong on this wild assumption, please tell me. This post wasn't meant to insult or flame you, just my first thought after reading all this.)

Re: Thunderhawk, once and for all

The "Wigan"hawk was circulated to all gw stores in UK, its jut wigan was the first to post the instructions on their facebook, so others didnt need to.

the other one is almost exactly the same but w/o buying the vindicator.. I hate the SR tail but its better than the scratch built one they have.

I don't have a lot of money, but if a plastic TH hit the shelves on limited release (i dont see them releasing a kit to sell forever.. more along the lines of the specialist games route).. especially if it was announced to happen with either 6th or an update to apocalypse rules or even a new Imperial Armour (a chaos/sm one).

Imagine a new book and the plastic TH (with added iconography for sm/choas) for £300? only way to get it is to buy the new book.. like a legendary package that vidja games offer

i see them selling out within minutes of that hitting the webstore and massive queues at the gw's to buy the instore copies available.

and i know this is wishlisting, instead of all the above.. it be released at games day 2013 as a gd only purchase.

Indeed, it looks rather small, seeing as you can comfortably fit a Dreadnought in the FW Thunderhawk's front bay.

I don't have any next to any new flyers as this is from a few years ago, but you can get the general scale of the thing.
