    Prince Yriel

He seems to be nothing short of a great model. A lot of attacks, high WS and Init, the Spear of Twilight, and the Eye of Wrath, all at a really reasonable point cost. My main concern is... Where do I put him where he'll be the most useful? I usually like to walk him along with a unit of Wraithguard to give him a nice beefy shield unit, then detach, run, assault when appropriate (popping Eye of Wrath as needed).

What do you think of Yriel and how do you use him, if at all?

I like Yriel if not purely for the model.

In game terms I use him like a normal autarch. He has a better weapon and can make mincemeat of high toughness creatures in combat. The only drawback I have with him is the toughness. Even a stray Imperial Guard power fist will insta-kill him if the 4+ is failed so he can become extremely fragile if not looked after.

I usually run him in a CC squad. Either quins or banshees and dont tend to use the eye until he is the only remaining guy in the squad. For me, that attack is a last resort banzai move and can be quite satisfying to go out with a bang.

There's also the technique known as the "Yriel bomb". You put him in a transport with any other unit you're going to get close to the enemy in. When the transport gets there (and survives any possible retaliation) the troops jump out, with Yriel separating from the main unit and going after a different, suitable, target from the main unit. As he's alone, Yriel can then assault and Eye if he wishes, or not, while the main unit does whatever it was going to do. Another use might be for Dragons who crack a transport - after the cracking, Yriel (a separate unit remember!) can shoot and assault the delicious meat within.

I usually run him with fusion gun storm guardians. Yriel bombing is my main tactic with him.

I usually don't run him with Howling Banshees. I have done that a couple of times, and found that every time, my opponent removed the guys in base contact with Yriel, thus preventing him from striking.

Prevent him from striking? I could have sworn that if models begin the combat in base to base he would still get to attack.
Accept certain inalienable truths: Necrons will rise, invulnerable saves will fail, you too will deep strike off of the table, and when you do you'll fantasize that when you were young Necrons didn't come back, Terminators were gods and the scatter die always read "Hit".

Not to mention, who hits before Yriel? He's I7!

...Well, banshees, obviously. Although they'd have to completely wipe out the unit he's in base contact with to prevent him from attacking.

I ran Yriel as part of a "Council" to great effect; Farseer/Eldrad + Yriel + 4+ Warlocks + Transport. Much the same as the "Yriel Bomb" as mentioned above but with a remarkable survivability when Fortuned.

The_Dragon_Rising - I've done that too, killed a defiler, khorne beserkers, thousand sons and a daemon prince in a 1500pts game.
When the sons of the Old Ones get closer, you better run.
