I don't mind which we go for, but could we have a deadline for a decision? I'm still trying to work out what army I will play and I was looking to try and get my Marines ready for it. 6th Edition may have a massive impact upon this and a lot of borrowing of bits from people if we go down that route.
I'm just waiting to hear back from a few more people whom are signed up I'm thinking a decision by wednesday![]()
To play devils advocate I can see some issues with adopting 6th so early on.
Many people have read the rumours, the "leaked" version and various other sources and without a lot of time to study the rules in full they will get confused between the actual rulebook rules and what they have read on the internets...
People on the whole will skim read to the new shiney stuff and miss critical changes to the rules in areas that they don't think have changed.
Allies are going to be a complete pain the behind, although I do love the idea of my Iron Warriors getting vendettas, basilisks, company command squads with quad melta and blob squads to bring up the numbers...
Random terrain elements and purchased terrain is nice and fluffy but it's probably a step to far for the first tournament.
Most people are still in the fifth edition mindframe when it comes to army creation, there could be a massive jump to sixth edition style armies that people won't have models for.
Anyway I'm happy to adopt either but it will be difficult if people don't put the effort in before hand to actually learn the rules!

DARK ELDAR RULE WE COMING TO TAKE YOU AWAY MWEHAHAHA
hi there
I would say 5th as its to soon to sort such a big army, plus we all have to buy the book learn it and all the faq that goes with it, I feel the time scale is to small to fit all this in.
The way we get around Allies and fortifications is we just say we don't use them.
I appreciate what Enderal says, but we would be playing from the same platform. It might be fun to shake it up a bit ...
Most people seem to be liking the idea of sixth edition, even those who haven't signed up and paid..
As Wiggy mentions everyone who is signed up is pretty laid back so I think we could risk it.
Definitely think we should put limits in place though, one FOC, no allies, no random terrain or purchased terrain. Let's leave those ones for the next tournament shall we?

Hmmm interesting! If it was a 1500/1750 tournamet and sold out I don't think I'd risk 6th ed but as its a bigger tournament with less games with relaxed players it makes me think it could work even though I'll be busier!
The main thing for me is that I know as soon as I have that new rulebook 5th ed will be dead to me and we may have just as much confusion trying to remember 5th ed rules and not the new one's! lol

So I'm still undecided the majority seem to be for 6th ed but I still have the silent majority to think of too - decisions decision!? lol
If we do use 6th it would mean using the new rules from the rulebook rather than the missions I've designed and I may also have to enforce a few other restrictions as enderel suggests to keep things a little simpler as a one off to aid learning the rules!
Problem is I don't think I'll be properly able to make a decision until I've got the new rulebook in my hand saturday morning.....

Do you think everyone will have bought the new rule book and learnt enough of the rules inside two weeks, even with a relaxed crowd its hard enough learning with a small points game. It would be less of a tournament more of a beginners session. And how many of the rules would you keep out, ie. Allies, Fortifications.
If this is 6th, I may attend my first X Legion

I'm not ignoring the difficulties if anything I'd be making a noose for my own neck! lol However, I thought it would be a little too autocratic of me to do the easy thing for myself and stick to 5th if the majority of participants wanted to try out 6th - so that's why I'm looking for opinions all are welcome!![]()
You could have 5th edition only army lists but play using 6th edition rules. That way you wont need to worry about all the extras like allies and fortifications.
That's what I'm doing as I've already submitted my army list.
I've just seen what could be a new force org chart which totally messes with this event as it effects games over 2000 points. There's no way to know until the rule books in Mals hands I guess
edit: My army is still legal though, basicly over 2000 points the FoC doubles. So for example minimum 2 HQ and 4 Troop choices.

Hi Rob
I'm interested but I need to confirm the start date for my new job so I know I'll have the weekend free. That should be done by this Friday so barring disaster I'll have a confirmation (and money) by Saturday at the latest. For what it's worth I'd prefer to play 6th full-on but I'll play 5th if the majority (especially of people who've actually committed) want to.

@GiraffeX - I've heard over 2k you get two foc's which is rather interesting, that the same little rumour you've heard? Brings up some nasty combinations if they do go that way. Wonder if Steve wants to borrow my war walkers, if people thought that 9 was cheesey what on earth are they going to think about 18!
