    Waaagh! Bluefang

    Hello Everyone!

This is the beginning of a new painting log - or plog - and it's my first. For several years now I've been slooooowly painting my fairly substantial collection of Warhammer 40000 Orks. I love Orks to bits, partly because the sprues have so many bits! I love kitbashing and converting, and I love the colours green, blue and red, so I chose to collect a Deathskull tribe, the Bluefangs. With the release of the fantastic new Ork bommer kit I was compelled to buy some more Orks and it's got to the point where there I have so much to paint up that I need a real kick up the backside to get it done - hence this plog, which will hopefully give me the motivation to steadily work my way through my collection, as well as the opportunity to share my work with other hobbyists!

My next post will be pictures of my HQ models, which are untouched conversion-wise, but at least they're fully painted

Warboss Gordreg Bluefang, leader of Waagh! Bluefang. He is the 'first' Ork model I painted, about six or seven years ago. I like to think I've got better!

My Warboss with powerklaw and cybork body, from Assault on Black Reach with an added shoulder pad from the Space Marine Command Squad sprue. The warboss and deffkoptas from this box set are brilliant models, but I am less fond of the boyz and nobz that come in it, despite them making an appearance in nearly all my games! This model was painted last September.

A Weirdboy, painted two summers ago. It's not clear on the photo, but his semi-exposed brain was painted in layers of gradually lightening shades of green. He has some Grot friends too:

Thanks! I've seen your brilliant Ork conversions and massive collection, I only hope mine can live up to your high standards!

As promised, here are some pictures of my Looted Wagon with a boomgun and 'ard case.

The boomgun is a combination of the Demolisher Cannon and a Manufactorum Chimney... the bigger the better!

Nice work. I like the camo pattern that you've done on their trousers.

Thank you! The pattern is based on the old 122nd Cadian colour scheme; the idea being that the Bluefangs have recently defeated and looted the corpses of a 122nd Cadian army - however, as you'll see from the models, their weaponry is mostly Space Marine equipment, because naturally Guard weapons are too puny for Orks!

    Re: Waaagh! Bluefang

Here's a breakdown of my collection. It's sizeable but by far it isn't the biggest, which is why I have no excuse for not finishing it by now! It's organised by unit type and whether the unit is unpainted (red), partially painted (green) or completed (blue)...

    2 Warbosses (painted)
    1 Weirdboy (painted)
    1 Big Mek (painted)
    10 Stormboyz (10 painted)
    3 Deffkoptas (3 painted)
    1 Looted Wagon (painted)
    1 Orkified building (painted)

    53 Slugga boyz (12 painted)
    25 Shoota boyz (14 painted)
13 Special Weapons (3 fully painted; 5 partially painted)
    11 Nobz (2 partially painted)
4 Big Gunz, 9 Grot Krew (2 Gunz painted, 6 Krew painted)
    2 Deff Dreds (1 painted)
    1 Stompa (75% painted)
    8 Burnas (1 painted)

    8 Lootas
    2 Meks
    6 Warbikerz
    1 Killa Kan
    1 Battlewagon
    2 Trukks
    15 Gretchin, 1 Slaver

    NEW ADDITIONS:
    1 Ork Bommer
1 Dark Eldar Razorwing Jetfighter (a Dakkajet!)
    8 Lootas
    2 Meks
    6 Ork Barricades

So as you can see, I've got a lot to get on with but not too much to overwhelm me. I think I simply must assemble and paint the Bommer next - in the meantime, look forward to some more pictures of my finished models, as well as a progress report on the Bommer. Thanks for reading!

    Re: Waaagh! Bluefang

My plan of action for painting has been to build a 1500pt list, completely painted, themed around Lootas and the units with random Ork rules - because that list will be fun to use and unpredictable! As you can see I've already made some progress. The colour code is painted, partially painted, unpainted. So the models to be painted for the list are:

    HQ
    1 Big Mek
    1 Weirdboy

    Elite
    16 Lootas, 1 Mek

    Troops
14 Shoota Boyz, 1 Special Weapon
12 Slugga Boyz, 2 Special Weapons
30 Slugga Boyz, 2 Special Weapons
    2 Slugga Boyz
    2 Nobz

    Fast Attack
    10 Stormboyz
    3 Deffkoptas

    1 Ork Bommer

    Heavy Support
    1 Looted Wagon
    2 Zzap Gunz, 4 Krew

As I said in the previous post, my immediate plan is to assemble and paint the Ork Bommer. Vehicles can be time consuming and this will be my first magnetised model (I want the weapons to be interchangeable) so it will probably take me the next two or three weeks, as I need to acquire some magnets and a new Black undercoat spray. Wish me luck!

    Hi again all!

I've been away for a few days and not had any time to do any work on the bommer yet (darn!) or take any new pictures, but in the meantime I thought I'd upload some old pics of an Orkified building I made two summers ago for a Cities of Death campaign a friend of mine organised. It's a very crude kitbash, involving the Imperial building kit mashed together with lots of Stompa gubbinz and a scattering of glyph plates from the Ork Boyz sprue. Sadly you can't see the sides or interior of the building from this photo, but you get the idea. Let me know what you think!

*ahem* here's another old picture, this time of one of my Deff Dreds. A friend and I built them from the plastic Imperial Guard Sentinel kit and Chaos Space Marine vehicle accessories, and real killer cans. This Dred has two close combat arms, a heavy flamer and big shoota.

I love taking a pair of Dreds in games, but have stopped doing it recently after a run of games where they not only failed to do anything, but simply conceded easy kill points. Even Armour 12 doesn't seem to stand up very well against S8/S9 weapons. The main problem really is Line of Sight, which I didn't take into account when making them. To wit:

Thanks, using all the extra bits definitely works. I'd like to see what you come up with! I think my colour scheme's not great to make the building really stand out, what scheme would you go for?

Sorry the picture quality's not great, I could use a much newer, better camera. The additional rock on the base is just to break things up a bit - it was empting to do a scenic base or diorama of some marines dying/running, but tbh I'm not a big fan of those types of base because, when playing, they take me out of the game and detract from the realism (I know, I know...). It just that it seems a bit silly that the same marine would be dying in the same pose underneath the plane even when it's flown to the other side of the battlefield...

Anyway, sadly that's as far as things can get with the Bommer until the magnets arrive. I need to drill the holes for them before undercoating and painting. In the meantime, I'll make a start on some other models

It's an old mekboy model from before the current edition of Codex Orks. The kustom mega-blasta is just what it looks like: a plasma gun with some trinkets attached. I've taken him for my past 20ish games even though he's died in all but one and usually because of Gets Hot!, hehe. He's 15pts and has only ever killed 3 models - but those 3 models happen to be a Space Marine and 2 Valkyries! So not so bad, when you look at the bigger picture

They're made from the Ork Boyz box and Space Marine jump packs (which works out cheaper than the official Stormboy models!). I always wanted to make Stormboyz this way, and it's possibly one of the reasons I chose to get Deathskull Orks, because they're born-and-bred lootas which is a great excuse to steal kits from other armies.

A simple bit of repositioning was all that was required to make him look like he was leaping or just about to take off into the air, charging at the enemy!

The Stormboyz' rokkit packs' special rule is that they add D6" onto their 12" move - but if you roll a 1, one of the Stormboyz has lost control, crashes and dies. To represent this I modelled one of them to be making an awkward landing.
