Campaign and Veteran abilities- Imperial Guard Platoons

    Hi all!

I am going to be starting up a campaign soon with the veteran abilities on pg 263 of the brb. My question is, how should I rule it if it comes in effect with Imperial Guard Platoons? It seems a little overpowered to allow veteran abilities to affect an entire platoon, but it also seems a little restrictive to have it only affect a single 50 point squad.

My idea is to allow D3+1 veteran rolls (all from the same specialization), which affect a single squad each, for Platoons. Do yall have any ideas, comments, or criticisms?

    Only surviving squads gain veterancy...

D3 squads could be enough. They're supposed to just be slight boons anyway. Nothing game-changing. And IG guardsmen are so malleable that even a hint of battle experience makes then veterans. Most don't survive their first fire fight anyway.

The idea of veteran abilities was to reward squads that performed exceptionally well during a game, hence the limit of one squad per army per game. If you wanted to be fair within he context of a campaign, the easy way to do it would be to say "1 squad in X (5 maybe) gets to roll for a veteran ability".That way armies like guard with, say, 3 platoons of 5 squads/teams gets to roll for three of them, while your SM opponent who may only have 7 squads in their whole army only get to roll once.
