Well I'm sorry to say if you can't afford to put money aside "just in case" then guess what? You can't afford to get the limited edition stuff

It may seem "unnecessary" to you, but from all accounts it is working.

I also think it's unfair to keep claiming WD is not a "worthwhile publication" when it's consistently had new rules content for most of this year. Take the hate blinkers off for a second

That's just... like... your opinion, man.

I think the past year has made WD seem the most useful/relevant. Publishing extra missions, scenarios, sneak peaks at upcoming models and rules had made it seem more relevant, whereas five years ago it seemed to just publish paint jobs (before 5th Im a little fuzzy but thats what I remember lol).

How are we supposed to save for something if we don't know for sure it's coming until at most 10 days in advance? If I want to drop more than a few quid on a GW purchase, I need to be setting cash aside for a reasonable period of time beforehand, and "physics student with part-time job" doesn't pay well enough that I can just save money for the sake of it; what little I have disposable gets spent, I'm not going to forego my other passtimes on the possibility that maybe GW are going to release product X on date Y, if I'm going to deprive myself in the present it is for a concrete future benefit, not the nebulous potential of one.
    unnecessary.
On the surface this is an eloquently put and mature enough argument, but reading between the lines all your really saying is; "I want it, I want it, now, now, now!" The examples you've cited hold little water & are hard to take seriously when what we're discussing here is a board game. You complain that you need advanced warning of new releases in order to save funds when you only need to skip back a page or two to find the pre order & release dates which have been leaked and banded around the Internet for at least a month now, probably by GW marketing people. That's plenty of advanced warning assuming you absolutely have to have it on the day of release. You could just wait a month after release before you buy it in order to raise some capital? Or six months if that's how long you need.
As far as your job not paying sufficiently for you 'to save money just for the sake of it'.... What the hell does that mean? That you have an amount of money at the end of each month that you need to rush out and spend lest you inadvertently save it? Surely your earnings are the same whether GW have a big release that month or not? If you really can't afford it you should be asking yourself if squandering your money on things that you don't really need is the best use of it. And as for "Depriving myself in the present" ... Just listen to yourself, we're not talking about starvation or drought here. It's a distraction, a toy, a means of entertainment, at a push you could call it art. In short a luxury item, your not loosing a human right here.

Yodhrin, I think you are, ironically, exactly the type of customer that caused the rumour lockdown to be implemented in the first place. But can we get back to discussing the starter set...?

Seconded. If you want to discuss limited editions in general or rumour lockdown then take it somewhere more appropriate. Any more in this thread will be removed without notice.

Realistically, IoB price would be a safe bet.

I would second IoB although there was also a rumour that it would be £75. Seems more sensible to keep their core games at the same entry price though. Not really been word on the limited edition but based on the collectors edition packages for the rulebook probably £125-£150 depending what comes with it.

Several posts removed. If you want to discuss disposable income, limited editions or anything other than the starter set please start another thread in the appropriate forum rather than derailing this one.

I'm most looking forward to the Chaos dread and the librarian. With the emphasis on psychic powers, I'm making an assumption that GW will ensure the librarian sculpt will stand out. I was never a big fan of the current chaos dread, so a new one is very welcome.

I am expecting the starter set to be a different lid and the inclusion of the chaplain. And that's it.

To be honest it wouldn't surprise me if the plastic chaplain got released separately later. A few limited sales are not going to pay for the steel dies.

That depends on the number of limited releases. If that number is 50,000 then it might be worth it.

I think the mold costs are greatly exaggerated. When AOBR came out, GW made two single-model sprues to throw in with White Dwarf for free.

The mould costs are not exaggerated, with a large tool for a starter set spru probably made of an extremely expensive material like Invar to guarantee dimensional accuracy you could happy spend a couple of hundred K . However it is very easy to have a tool that produces the main spru and the limited edition single character spru that has an insert placed in to block off the limited spru so it is not used in normal production it is very common to have tools with this sort of feature and would only add a small amount to the overall cost.

That generated sales for both White Dwarf AND AoBR. They probably wanted to lift the WD sales while promoting the new set and that worked out to be one of the ideas that was worth a gamble. I'm sure it added up for them in the end with White Dwarf/AoBR sales over time.

Yeah, I know people who bought 4-5 copies of that WD for the minis. Though the rules additions have been boosting sales as well. my FLGS has been selling out of WDs with rules in them, even after ordering extras, notably the Fliers one and the Daemons one.

I doubt there will be a WD model this time, but I wonder if they will do a direct only cultists sprue like they did Seaguard for the fantasy box.

Re: Official Warseer 6th Ed Starter Set Thread (Summary in first post)

This isn't worth making it's own thread, but based on the rumors we have, the BRB basically tells us who the Chaos Marines are...

Ok, so rumors say that the box is called Dark Vengeance, last I checked. Chech out the top right of pg. 176 in the big Book.

"Dark Vengeance: The Dark Angels 5th Company battles elements of the Crimson Slaughter for control of the Hellfire Stone. The Nephilim sector trembles as the hated foes clash..."

Ok, so if the Dark Vengeance rumor is true, then it seems clear that the "Crimson Slaughter" will be the warband in the new box. After all, Chaos is pretty much guarenteed, but who is still up for guesses.

So, who are these guys? Well, check out p. 299 in the BRB... We get a picture of a basic Bolter Marine from the Crimson Slaughter. Red armor with Gold Trim, nothing extra ordinary amongst the various chaos armies, but hey, its something to off of right?

I didn't make this it's own thread, as I'm sure someone else has seen this. However, I hadnt heard it yet, so I figured I might as well put it up!

I had a thought the other day. If the rumor is true, and chaos will be getting a corrupt chaplain unit called "Dark Apostles" would it be possible that the supposed special edition DA Chaplain model could be generic enough to fill either role?

Well, it is a Dark Angel, so it's already halfway there. I mean visually. They're some of the darkest scariest looking loyalist marines. But I doubt it - if Dark Angels are going to be this edition's poster boys, then of course they're going to get extras like 3 HQs in a starter.

Can't believe I missed this post, thanks for the info Erazmus. I'm going say that the chaplain will be included in the standard boxed set then, I remember when everyone was arguing about what to be released in August you were one of the first (possibly the first come to think of it) to list the contents of the daemon wave and say it was coming in August. Not that anyone took a blind bit of notice but you know. Cheers again, really hope that rumour is true.
