Well if the only difference for the Special Edition is $8 more for Chapy, I think I'll wait a week and try to buy the standard set on ebay for $75.

    Not explicitly, but...

    Azrael has a bolter/plasmagun.

    Asmodai has a plasma pistol.

Lots of the art from the period prominently features plasma/heavy plasma guns for the Dark Angels. And not just for the characters, either. Many captains in the art had plasma pistols, but the DA seemed to have plasma whereas the BA's seemed to have more in the way of melta, and Ultramarines had the flamer featured on their cover if I'm not mistaken.

In 3rd edition, they were the first Tactical Marines to get plasma cannons.

In the current codex, Sammael has a jetbike-mounted plasma cannon, which is pretty unique.

So yeah, lots more plasma in their art, rules and miniature range than the other chapters had.

Fair enough, but absolutely nothing explicit, or even really implied, in their fluff.

e: Azmodai doesn't have a plasma pistol in Angels of Death. Other than the picture of Azrael with a combi-plasma, not a single piece of artwork containing a plasma gun exists in Codex: Angels of Death. A couple of the devastator models have them, but there's a Blood Angel with one too, so that doesn't mean much.

In 3rd edtion, DA tactical squads were taken directly from C: SM, so there's no difference there, either.

$100.00 is a price I can handle, a little more for that chaplain is worth it as well.

Index Astartes gave DA tactical squads the option to swap lascannon for plasma cannon at no cost which is where the plasma affinity comes from.

Plus isn't is said that with them being the 1st legion they often get first dibs for things coming off the assembly line?

The clanrats were indeed released before the starter, but the starter clanrats are just slight resculpts of the normal ones. Just like the goblins of BfSP were slight variations of the ones released independently. I'd be very surprised if they didn't release cultists that are slight variations of the starter set ones.

I thought it was because they had better kept armouries. They are the only Chapter with a jetbike. But I think we've had enough plasma deviation in a rumour thread .

Loveless-The bit about Asmodai going "Laughter? Okay, no talking - one year." is pretty much "win" in my book. Now I know that his model is pointing and shouting "Shut the ---- up!" at his target - right before unleashing a barrage of hatred-filled concussive blows. Ah, warms my heart.

There is at least a decent chance of a cultist box that has the option of either gun or pistol + heavy stick, I reckon. Otherwise you'd need three starter kits to get a unit of 30 with identical kit.

The full Chaos model line is supposed to be out within weeks of the new codex, so there shouldn't be a delay before the Cultists are out if they are going to be released.

    Have Harry or Hastings commented?

I would love to see a Cultist box personally.

Those cultists were awsome! and would work for me as traitor guard auxilia while I'd model chaingang-slave/meat-shield for my actual CCSM cultists.

LOL! I guess my not having bought any of those would explain why I had not heard about the novels...

Dark Angels in their 3rd edition fluff were said to field more plasma weapons than the other chapters due to them being the first and oldest chapter.

The Dark Angels predilection for Plasma didn't begin until the 3rd Edition Mini-Dex. If you would like to discuss this further, please start a thread in 40K General or Background. Any further posts will be removed without notice and serial offenders will be dealt with.

The background may be offtopic, but it did influence this starter set- Plasma pistols on the chaplain, captain, and sergeant, plasma guns on a biker and tac marine, and a plasma cannon in the tac squad. Sort of ironic that there are that many AP2 weapons on the side that needs them least- they are the only 2+ armor units in the set. I suppose the irony is also that the chaos side is the ones with the flamer and multimelta, when they are the side with light troops that rely heavily on cover and have the only vehicle. Almost a mismatch.

When I was at the Bunker in Bowie on saturday, they had a couple of Black reach boxes with a sign saying "last chance" next to them.

Here's a thought... A few games in, Timmy realizes how many cultists his DA could mow down if they had a flamer, and his brother Billy sees the obvious advantage a plasma gun would have against the Termies... so they decide that they need some new models to add to the starter. Devious!

dark angels squad are cool but not incredible.
company master are cool but little static
    librarian is so nice
investigator is not top and make Too much block, skull head helmet is really flattened
deathwing are really cool and not statics as black reach!ravenwing are not extraordinary but poses are cool and sculpt are better than biker boxe
