Well, there is one explanation for this that most chaos players hate me for whenever I bring it up.Not to mention it's weird seeing 10,000 year old vets with a serious grudge being leadership 9.
There is a great article out there from the Inquisitor game that describes how to run CSM in a game of inquisitor. One of the key ideas is that CSM are NOT FEARLESS. That is one of the key differences between them and loyalist marines. While most loyalists marines have a cause they are more than willing to die for (the emperor, their primarch, the imperium, etc.) most CSM are primarily concerned with "numero uno", themselves, their own survival. Most are motiviated by desires for power, wealth, pleasure, etc. However, all those desires require the marine be alive to enjoy them. Thus, the article explains, a CSM is more likely to run from a fight than a loyalist marine if the fight starts turning against him.
What keeps most CSM in-line is fear of their next superior officer. What will he do to their body/mind/soul if they fail him?
Now their are of course exceptions (Thousand sons are automotons, many word bearers are religious fanatics with more in common with loyalist marines than most CSM, just with a difference in who they are devoted to).
Basically, they are 10,000 year old vets. While they should be good in combat after all that experience, they also didn't live 10,000 years by staying in losing battles to the bitter end.
Now back to the starter set.
But that's twinned with a humungous ego which twists their ideas of what a 'losing battle' might be. Yes, they're concerned with 'numero uno', but 'numreo uno' is the absolute shiz in their mind. A loyalist has a much firmer grasp of his own capabilities, so is more likely to fall back in certain circumstances, but unlike the traitor he isn't actually fleeing, he's just making a literal tactical retreat (as represented by ATSKNF).
Please take those background discussions to the appropriate subforum.

I do hope the Deathwing terminators are on par with the Space Hulk terminators - I need more leg poses for artscaling and I'm rubbish at repositioning legs for some reason![]()
I'd like to see the marines actually pointing their guns at someone this time. I'm so tired of 'statue marines' in the box sets. Looking at the IoB box I know they can do it, it's just a matter of will they. The painter's set with the DA's in them kinda has me worried though. Hopefully those are not the guys we'll be seeing in the box set.
what would make me super happy, is some compatibility with the regular multipart box sets. That would be ace. I know the starter box set models are usually snap fit, but to have some seperate legs and torsos would be great, especially on the terminators.
non-statue and dynamic PA marines and separate marine legs/torsos are not going to happen on snapfit models. Due to the limitations on undercuts and parts per model, the statue marines, with some variation, are the optimal shape to both fit in the space allotted and provide an easy to build model. Terminators, being larger, have more opportunities for dynamic poses, as their weapons are single handed.

Indeed. You can't have a 3-part Marine pointing his Bolter forward as the supporting arm would be a nightmare to try and sculpt without looking terrible.
Best you could get would be a couple doing one-handed.
It's also not possible to have a Marine pointing his weapon to the side and firing (unless he's a Beaky)
they managed it with the necromunda Orlocks 13 years ago, they could hold the weapon pointing somewhat forward. can't see why the arms cant be pre moulded holding the bolter, and have pins that push in under the shoulderpad.
As I said, beaky helmets would be okay (but still not ideal) but they can't mould the detail of the face grill like that
There's also a good chance of the helmet melding with the shoulder or Gorget like that.
And cyphertheory, you'd either lose a lot of detail on the arms or still end up with 2 pieces instead of 1 doing it like that. Good thinking, but still not ideal.

First of all hi as i made this account just there to ask this
I realise that there is no info and this would just be speculation but does anyone feel qualified enuff to make a educated guess at the price of the set ?
Fresh from the gw site black reach is £61.50 (i could swear my one was only 45 and that it was that not long ago too!)
Do you think it will go up, down (i wish) or stay the same ?
One would hope it'll stay the same (it won't go down), but knowing GW.. it'll probably see a price increase.
I wouldn't be surprised to see it come in at £70.
EDIT: damn. My feeble guess got ninja'd by a real answer.![]()
