They also mis-used 'their'. It should be 'there'. Ugh. Grammatically the whole thing makes me want to bang my head on the wall.
Anyway, my local GW was taking names and numbers in case the 23rd was something big or we could pre-order ahead of time. I haven't received any calls so take from it what you will. All I know is the last time I pre-ordered from a GW store my Vampire Counts book and cards didn't show up for 3 weeks after release. I waited until later in the day to go pick it up because I had pre-ordered and figured my stuff would be waiting for me and they wound up selling out. Pretty much negated the entire reason for pre-ordering. Either way I won't ever pre-order anything from a local GW store again.
What a freaking mess GW has made of this. Here we are a week from a "major" event with zero details. While I can honestly say I am disappointed in GW, can't say I am surprised. Again, I 99% sure no one will get their paws on a book that night at any event. This is a preview and preorder night. Buy your white dwarf and go home night.
As has been said, it seems really backwards.
What is peculiar, if this is just a big event for the announcment, there has been no mention of doing something for the actual launch? However, I suppose they can't plan anything for the launch of something they have yet to announce.
They're being secretive about the announcement to announce the pre-order announcement because they can't tell us anything about the launch itself.
Clearly, you people have no appreciation for GW logic![]()
That's certainly how I understood it as we get 8 hour's stand down time between finishing a callout and having to be back at work if it's late.
I'm thinking along the same lines as the majority here, 23rd seem's most likely to be a pre-order date, I can't imagine they'd release the book without more fanfare time.
Does anyone know when pics from the next wd will drop?
I usually get my copies of WD about 3-5 days before the normal release so you can probably expect pictures about Monday/Tuesday as someone somewhere will have them by then.
Well, the Edinburgh Games Workshop is haing a doubles tournament on the 29th until midnight:
That seems to hint more towards the 30th release, and 23rd as a pre-order date! Some people are showing some interest in us staying open very late one night for some gaming. So who is interested in a 40K doubles night on Friday 29th, 1000 points per team (500 each).
We will play until about midnight...when something very special might happen!
There is only space for 12 teams so pop in and get more info and sign up...there will be an entrance fee, but that will get you a special midnight gift! We will tell you the cost once we know the price...wink, wink!!!
It sounds like Liverpool GW might be jumping the gun a little bit!
The 23rd will likely be a 6E preview party, just like they had for 5E on June 28th of 2008 ( a Saturday), but the actual 5E hardcover release was one week later on Saturday July 5th. The 5E event featured trivia questions too, and the winner got a copy of the 5E hardcover book. They might do the same thing again with 6E, so brush up on your trivia!![]()

Now, that doesn't mean that the winner will get a 6E Big Rulebook this time, or even if they do that they will be able to take home the book right then. They may get a gift card instead, and have to wait one more week just like everyone else. Who knows in this era of "GW tells us nothing!".

Better than sitting in the pub all night I guess.

Not sure if this has been posted in one of the other forums but it seems relevant:

Thanks for sharing that. It sounds quite accurate. I knew they had to be selling something for the midnight events. The next WD might be just enough to tide us over until the 30th.
Pretentious? Hardly.
It's a bid to get people pre-ordering items in store rather than pre-ordering from a webstore. It's not even a universal GW event either, it's being set up by managers willing to do so.
And who gives a crap if its "not in the same league" as the latest 'Harry Potter' drivel or 'Call of Duty Varient 12', it's store staff trying to do something a little bit different, even a tad exciting for the launch of the new edition. Given how badly the UK economy is faring these days i applaud any attempt to actually drum up business for a brick and mortar store.

My local GW posted this event:

Judging by the name of the event, it seems that the only thing they felt confident about advertising was the release of this month's White Dwarf. I get the impression that none of the stores have a clear idea of exactly what's going on. Some think it will be pre-orders, some actual release, I think the smart stores are hedging their bets.
Also it seems that GW haved changed marketing tactics. Rather than reward those that show, they will apparently be punishing those that don't:P
Ahhh Games workshop, you would better off trying to gain information from Notorious Jonny Tightlips of the me no speaky academy of Silentville, postcode SHH SHH.
My Local GW is hosting a flyer event (the scramble scenario) and they are also exchanging aquila cards for a raffle ticket. I am 100% sure that 6th ed wont be out this weekend, just the new WD and some some sneak previews.
