If I didn't know anything, if my store told me I *had* to be there at midnight for this awesome event but they couldn't tell me what it was until 12:01, and I showed up with excitement and anticipation for my favorite hobby, only to be shown the GW Home Page and pre-order box for VIth and some drone trying to sell me the new White Dwarf...
I would not be pleased.
Regarding the GW Liverpool message: "anouncement/viewing/aquiring" (they can't spell).
The keyword (as properly spelled) is acquiring and the message implies limited quantities. So the question is, acquire what?![]()
The limited amount of free pizza.
In all seriousness though when someone signs off as Alpharius, I am suspicious. Look, I am really really trying not to burst anyone's bubble here.
Do I think these events will be fun? Yes if you have a good community. Should you expect a new rule book. ABSOLUTELY NOT. My guess: posters, white dwarf for sale, little pamphlets, and stuff along those lines. Many of the stores seem to be having 40k tournaments as part of the hoopla for one last 5th edition event. Again, I can only report what I have heard from multiple sources that there will be no 6th ed books leaving the store that night. You can purchase a book via pre order, but you can't take it with you.
More importantly, it seems like not even all the shops are having a gathering... that should tell you something.
I'm thinking of the parents that have to take little Timmy to the shop after midnight and they've either taken the following day off or have work and are not told until then that they can't buy the book (having not been told beforehand). Angry parents can do crazy things. Like assault shop staff...If I didn't know anything, if my store told me I *had* to be there at midnight for this awesome event but they couldn't tell me what it was until 12:01, and I showed up with excitement and anticipation for my favorite hobby, only to be shown the GW Home Page and pre-order box for VIth and some drone trying to sell me the new White Dwarf...

Free Pizza?
The 25th Anniversary party thing? Free cake, free snacks, and if you got there early enough, free far too small 25th anniversary pin badge.
I'll probably go to the Liverpool thingy just for the apocalypse game. Doubt i'll stay till midnight though, i rely on public transport and so would like to leave Liverpool when there's at least a small chance i'll make it home without being mugged.

To be fair, what info can the parent get from a rapid search ?
Not everybody, especially parents not in the hobby themselves, will know the usual procedure of GW preorders nor be as informed as sites like warseer or dakadaka.
A parent (or little timmy himself) can very well be aware of the next edition because 5th has been removed from the store, and maybe because an older player told him that it was coming, and think that the big event is clearly 6th edition being available for sale.
He wouldn't be too far off, except for the part of being able to leave the store with the book ...
I never imagined Alpharius using this kind of language, or that he sends messages to himself.++++To Alpharius++++

My current best candidate for anti-Helldrake duties: Land Raider Crusader - SIXTEEN twin linked shots of Emprah's divine fury into rear armour 10.
I believe some stores will receive stock of the limited edition Servo Skull tape measure, the Psychic cards and metal effect templates which will be available after midnight, haven't heard anything about the rulebook being available though.
And that Liverpool FB update made my eyes bleed from the all spelling and grammar issues!![]()
Sorry guys. Just got vague confirmation from Gee Dub on this:
"If and when it is announced on the website and in White Dwarf, that is when you'll be able to pre-order it."
If we can pre-order it when it's announced in White Dwarf, then it's not coming out in stores that day. There would be no pre-orders, but just 'orders' at that point.
Looks like the 23rd is just the announcement, meaning that release date is either the 30th or the 7th.
@StraightSilver: That's better than nothing. The nerd rage may be contained if they at least sell *something* new.
Fabulously entertaining might be that any staff that keep the store open past midnight, cannot be legally made to open the store at 10.00am the next day in the UK. You must be allowed 11 hours rest between shifts as an adult. Of course, there's nothing I can think of to say they can't waive that right, but I thought it was funny nonetheless.
On topic; If you can buy the book, and my store has a similar event, I may go. If it's for pre-orders, I think not.
