I am guessing GW has found from experience that keeping releases secret actually generates more/better publicity through rumour and gossip than spending money marketing.
That or they are basing their entire sales strategy on preventing Mantic (et al) from releasing compatible miniatures before they do.

I was under the impression all this secrecy was to prove to New Line that they really can keep stuff under wraps.
Either way I actually kinda like the suspense. Only downside is that it's going to be a mad rush to change my armies in time for upcoming tournaments.
So looking at the release dates from BOLS in one of the other threads, if they're accurate it looks like the gamers and collectors editions of the rulebook may actually be released on the 23rd, with the standard edition coming on the 30th. So maybe the midnight opening isn't so silly!
Sadly I'm away in Devon this weekend, but may have to drag the GF over to GW Barnstaple nice and early on Saturday morning!
@Binky: We're quite certain that there will be nothing released on the 23rd other than the new White Dwarf. It would be nice to get everything a bit early though!

From what I've heard and understood from friends within the halls of GW Corporate, the 23rd is Preorder only. The actual release date is July 7th.
The 7th makes sense as for major releases such as a new edition, GW likes to run a 2 week preorder, instead of the normal 1 week.

No offense, but I think you are incorrect.
While I'm hearing the 30th on the internetz the 7th would fit historically as they did have a 2 week preorder for fantasy. also its what my independant stockest is expecting and he is normally dead on when it comes to this sort of thing. It will be interesting to see who has egg on their face once the shells have stopped falling.
My local store's doing a midnight event for release-day, doing the same for pre-order say seems a bit unnecessary unless GW are planning to severely underestimate demand to the point that you need to order within 5 minutes or not at all.
Games Workshop: Manchester HAD put up an announcement and then it vanished.
It merely said to come and pre-order 6th edition however... I wish I had taken a picture now..

Hi all,
Probably been ninja'd to this but 6th Ed is finally available to pre-order on the GW website. Also, they appear to have a dopted a slightly new logo.
Now just need to figure out how to make time pass until I get my grubby little hands on the thing.
I want to know what US stores are going to do now that the cat is out of the bag... I want reports from our cousins across the pond...
