Starting off with small step, 500 points Bad Moon themed Orks
I'm still deciding which system, warhammer or warhammer 40k, to play but i had ork codex with me so i wrote some army list i would like to field.
I tried to come up with some sort of story for my army, thus this 500 points will be the start of it.
Planning to expand from 500 to 1000 and ultimately reach around 1500.
HQ
Big Mek
kustom force field/kustom mega blasta/eavy armor
105pts
Troops
Ork Slugga Boys (25)
Nob with Power Klaw
2 rokkit launcha
205pts
Ork Shoota Boys (15)
big shoota
95pts
Deff Dred
Skorcha/DCCW
95pts
Mek will run with 15 shoota boys giving covering fire for slugga boys and/or deff dred to tear things up.
How does this look? I havent played 40k since the new rule and never played with orks before so any advises/comments are welcome.

Its not bad, going to be tough to kill all of that for sure.
You really don't need all that wargear on the Mek. Honestly the KFF is all he needs. if you have the points after you could give him eavt armor or CBB. The reason is you really don't want him in CC, he gets singled out and dies.
The Squad you could drop to 20 and take those points and add some support. Maybe in lootas, or maybe a small squad of Kans. Are they Shootas or Sluggas? The reason I ask is I am not a fan of rokkits in squads of shootas. They are ok with a squad of Sluggas as it helsp them shoot a vehicle/transport and then assault the squad that is coming out of it.
I don't like the KMB's on the Dread. It makes him so expensive. Either give him a couple of bshootas as they are cheap, or a skorcha and an extra arm, or even 4 arms(that is a bit expensive as well though).
Well I hope this helps you with a better list. Your list can still win as its pretty hard to kill 30 Orks.

Yeah i wasn't so sure about all the wargear on big mek and deff dred's load out.
Since, the 30man boys are sluggas where should i put my Big Mek? It seems bit risky to run him as lone wolf.
I could just hide the big mek behind the deff dred or something i guess

Thats a good question. I tend to shoot with my Orks so I just have him in a squad of shootas. The dread and some kans in front. You could split the squad of 30 and take 15 sluggas and 15 shootas. But the problem is they are a bit easier to killl that way.
No you don't want the Mek by himself for sure, even behind the Dread.
This is what I use for my Orks at 500Pts. It is not a friendly list by any means, but it gets the job done.
This is my 500 points army for Orks.
Mek: KFF
Dread: 2xBShootas
Shootas x15
-Nob: PK, BP
Kans x2: Rokkits
Kans x2: Rokkits
500pts.
Like I said I shoot with my army. So I make a wall of the kans and dread then put the shootas behind that.
Now you don't have to take this list, but its more just an idea of waht can be done. Everything has a 4+ armor save. Which makes it hard to deal with. And 5 armored vehicles. The real problem witht he list is only one scoreing unit and if they gang up on that squad it could be a bad thing.

That list looks very delicious. Maybe i should try some shootas, only reason i don't like them is due to low BS of 2.
Killa Kans will have to wait till 1k expasion due to my budget; was surprised to see new GW price tags almost gave me a heart attack.

Well to mitigate there BS you have alot of shots. It really works out most of the time for me.
Yeah, I have been playing for 13 years, and I am very upset at this last price increase for sure. It was way over done. Glad I have alot of stuff, but I am not so sure about 6th ed. So I might be calling in quits.
