Horus Heresy: Kryptos by Graham McNeill

Did anybody pick up this ebook yet? Anybody know how long it is? It's described as a short.

No, it's about 15 pages ... the 443 refers to something else (lines of text?)

I nearly messed myself with joy at the prospect of 443 pages there. 15 pages isn't great for the price. You pick up a full novel for three times the price. I'll wait for this to be collected.

    Overpriced. Really overpriced.

Action being described is decent, story is run of the mill, and there isn't enough time for any character development. This would have been more appropriate as a prologue to a novel.

I wasnt to crazy about it either. Was kinda disappointed. It all seemed hastily put together. Ill have to resist next time. Just love the HH series had to get. I dont recomend getting it guys. Save your money for Fear to Tread or Shadows of treachery.

I blinked and the book was over

There were some nice teasers of the characters past, maybe / hopefully to feature in further books where their background will be filled out

And the tired old, rehashed argument of pricing strikes again! Yay, internet is still predictable!!

Personally, I enjoyed this. More Heresy action is always welcome and Graham delivers nicely on this one. And Dark Mechanicum. More please.

Got to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this. True, a short story doesn't allow for much character development, but the action was well portrayed, new info (on RG stealth abilities), and no info dumps. At first glance, it seems like a nice, well told, but inconsequential throw away side story. But, on reflection, the events portrayed could have serious consequences for both loyalists and traitors. I'd be interested to see if the events of this story have ramifications further down the line.

I agree ... it was a good, if short, read. No regrets about the purchase.

Maybe because I don't focus on dissing authors and actually appreciate good stories? Everyone has different tastes and learning to respect that is the first step in having a pleasant time on the internet.

The pricing wasn't unbearable, or anything like that, but the emphasis is definitely on short story in this case. That said, an interesting premise with potentially large ramifications.

Yeah, BL are apparently planning an Iron Hands book on the heresy. I hope Shadowhawk will clear me up on this.... ?

Ever read my reviews? You might change that statement :-) Besides, just because someone out there, in this case me, likes, almost all of the fiction that BL puts out, I don't think that means I'm a "fanboi". Or if I defend their decisions regarding the Limited Edition novellas.

These are some of my more, shall we say, *negative* reviews.

It slightly defeats your argument of not blindly loving all BL books when your examples of poor reviews largely score 8-9/10 with only 4 short stories under 7. Not sure what your point is regarding Killing ground as you gave that waste of papper+ink 7/10.
