Picking up Hordes for something a lil' different...SKORNE!!!!

For those who don't know I'm a long time Fantasy (17+ years) and recent 40K (4+ years) player, and have amassed a very large Army in both. Chaos Khorne is my Legion, in both systems.

Many of my friends play this Warmachine/Hordes game and have been trying to get me into it...and for a slightly change of pace I've opted to hop in some and decided upon the Skorne! I figure it sounds just like Khorne, they wear red/brass and are all about martial discipline and choppin' fools up in close combat!

I'm still learning the rules (or trying to at least) and i've picked up the current Hordes Primal Mk II, the Skorne Book and the new Dominion Book. And a few random models here and there.

Anyways I'm very interested in building up a few different style forces, and the first that intrigues me is the Cataphract Arcuarii, Cataphract Cetrati, Tyrant Vorkesh, Praetorian Ferox, Praetorian Karax, Praetorian Swordsmen & Tyrant Rhadeim. Which Caster would best suite an army based off these type models? And will I need some of the light/heavy Warbeasts to bulk up their ranks? I do have a fondness for the Cyclops!

Also, i've picked up a Totem Hunter and plan on painting him up in Skorne colors...i like the idea of a head hunter working for me!

Any help, suggestions, and the such would be much appreciated!

I am new as well, but to me it sounds like Xerxis may be up your ally, or Epic Morghoul. But there are more experienced players that can tell you more.

Yeah, I was looking at Xerxis too! Besides the fact he's name after the most famous Persian King!

Hi I've played Hordes for some time now and maybe I can help?

Firstly are you looking at a themed force? or just a good start to Skorne?

Morghoul is probably the best to start with. (Its the reason hes in the fraction box) he can run beasts / inf to a similar degree and loves to be in the thick of it

If you want to run infantry / cavalry may I suggest Makeda her feat gives you one turn of invunrability basically

If you want to run Minions too may I also suggest a paingiver solo who will let you buff those pesky Minions

Thank you Demiurg! Right now i'm focusing on trying to learn the rules and use Xerxis with an infantry based army (and some beasts) for theme for now. Eventually once i have the game mechanics and combos down I'll move onto more powerful casters i'm sure. I do like the Cataphracts and the Cyclops!

Well if you like cyclops and cataphracts then Xerxis and Pmakeda are you're best bets. I also recently started and found that Makeda loves her Cetrati, making them pretty speedy while buffing their arm/def! Plus too top it all off she can just bring most of them back with her feat! If you are actually going for a straight up Xerxis them then you should be pretty excited to know that hes getting his own character beast soon, Tiberion I think it's called. Anyway I hear hes really good and a total tank.
