Why dont you expand on your existing armies? For example your Dwarfs? With a new book hopefully out next year you could have a nice force ready for any new additions.
Or if you would prefer a new army what about a dead one.... Would be a nice change of pace from your existing armies.

I'd say go with the greenies ... 8th ed book, good range of models, hilarious gameplay (if you're not too serious, greenskin plans tend to explode at the first Animosity roll ...), lots of theme ideas, and still a hard army that can win easily in the hands of a good player with a tiny bit of luck.

But then, you said Ogres or Lizards ... I don't really know these armies (have the books, not played them), but I'd say Ogres are a "smash yo face" army, while Lizards are a bit more about combined arms, but with a "magic ya to death" approach ...

All those are very different from Wood Elves, so whatever you choose, you'll be in for a challenge ...

But the most important question is this : which models do you like best ?

Greenskins rarely have animosity anymore and it's really easy to provide Black Orc Hero (restore order) support to the units you don't want squabbling. Last game that I had something squabble was a Unit of Arrer Boyz into a Unit of Savage Orcs. That only lasted 1 turn and made no impact on the game as I already outnumbered my opponent 2:1 in units. (was a 5k SoM game with 1250 SoM points).

Greenskins, ROCK. Our last Warhammer Fantasy Tournament Top Winner was a Greenskin Player lost (I was playing Ogres... dang Ironblaster had an earth-shattering KABOOM and wiped out my entire flank).

I love O&G For the simple reason: There is ALWAYS a reason to fight no matter what army you play. You can create scenario's, fluff, anything with greenskins. You can model them anyway. Don't like the look of choppa's? modify them. I made one of my warbosses the "Armor of Gork" by using a bunch of bone-bits from the savage ork sprue & lizardman sprue. I almost modified his other hand so he has 2 Fist weapons rather than a handweapon & fist weapon. "Tuck'n'roll" has led many games to victory. The same model I use to represent "Bash'n'crash" a Savage Orc Warboss with armor of Silvered Steel, Dawnstone, Additional Handweapon in a unit of Savage Orc Biguns with a Savage Orc Shaman with the SHrunken head. (2+ armor, rerollable, 5+ ward while the shaman is alive, 6 attacks, STR 6 on the first turn).

The worst things that happen to my greenskins are misfiring bolt-throwers. But they are dirt cheap. You can field 3 of them for 105 points, and even if you blow up 2, as long as the 3rd did something it's paid for itself.

    Summarization for the TLDR
    Phase 1: Greenskins
    Phase 2: ?????
    Phase 3: Profit!

Ogres and Lizardmen are similar in the way that you can build a good army with comparably few models, and thus it means it's not a huge financial commitment to start one of those.

Ogres feature a very unique playstyle because they're the only Monstrous Infantry army out there obviously. But that's not all there is. Since you already have a few Goblins, you can use them as Gnoblars so they don't go to waste. I am only about to start Ogres so I cannot really tell much about them yet, but I found that their models are surprisingly good. I didn't like them before because in the old book they suffered heavily from outdated rules, lack of options and, most importantly, a horrible paintjob, but I have really taken a liking to them now. I think they're definitely worth a shot.

Lizardmen on the other hand are also a very solid army in terms of... about everything. Since many of their models have now been updated to Finecast, this may be an additional incentive... or not. If you like the Monstrous Infantry aspect of Ogres, you can heavily invest in Kroxigors, they're easily among the thoughest and strongest MI in the game and will really put the hurt on your opponent. With Lizardmen you're relatively unrestricted in your army construction as there's always a way to make anything go, but a balanced list that takes a bit from everything is a really good choice.

So I'd say both options are very good. I'd say it comes down to the models. Do you prefer cavemen or maya style?

Just played against OK tonight. Thought about playing them for a long time. Decided on High Elves eventually but still very fascinated by the Ogres. A lot of solid choices and fun lists came to mind. The new rules were in play with tonight's game and it seemed even more fun. Huge models, stonehorn with a hunter on top was epic, and the magic is pretty awesome now too. IIRC before they were all RIP so could be pretty ineffective but now its just until your next magic phase. Mostly augments but a lot of awesome augments! I'd say OK for sure but I've never seen a Lizard army. Could leave me a bit biased.

Re: thinking about starting a new army

If you only have 1000 points of Goblins you haven't truly tasted the glory of an army of greenskins. It is an army that has both breadth and depth for the symbiotic player. Furthermore, there isn't much of an element another army can do that the greenskins cannot do in some capacity (except fielding monstrous cavalry). The most important thing with Orcs n Gobbos is the need to go with the flow of each turn and have patience. Good things come to those who smile.

Yes, a smiling Orc would be fearsome indeed!

Though thanks to Animosity, for most people it's more like "grin and bear it".

I concur with the notion that you should expand one of your 1000 point armies. I mean, 1000 points is tiny! Consider this - if you don't want to expand them any further, you probably aren't that keen on them anyway, and selling them to fund a new army would probably be a good idea. If you're dead set on a new army, then Ogres are a good choice, one of the easier armies to play well with as well. Lizardmen get my vote though, they're just so cool (and I play them!)
