New computer, advice on transferring data

I’ve just got a new computer and I’m wondering if anyone could offer me some advice on transferring all my information across from my old one. In particular I have rather a lot of games downloaded from Steam/Origin along with (eve online and world of tanks), and I’d rather not have to download all of them again. I do have an external hard drive which is big enough to hold all the information on my old computer, and both of them are running windows 7.

Steam has a back up function (Steam->Back Up & Restore) which you can use to transfer your games to the external drive, then across to your new computer.
    For Origin, try the following:

As for EVE and WoT, you might get away with a similar process to origin - try copying the installed files to your external drive, initiating a new downloaded installation on the new PC, then pausing it and copying the old file across. It doesn't always work for me though, and someone else might have a better suggestion?

Get a copy of Acronis. It really is the bees knees for copying drives easily and simply.

Pretty certain Windows 7 has a backup and restore function, could you not use that?
